How about drones that shoot lasers at enemies, help you mine, or shine a huge flashlight on you so you don't need torches that much!!!
You don't understand, do you? Let me explain again: DeSmuME would have saved itself A LOT of trouble if they focused on optimization EARLIER. Now they deal with a lot of games being incompatible with the Multi-threading. And Starbound is going the same way: With rendering/processing optimizations saved for later, the game will become more and more difficult to fix whent that happens. Because, by then, they will need to test with a whole load of things to see if it breaks or not, rather than testing while adding.
Greatly looking forward to teleportation gates and planet scanning! I have no doubt that the underground goodies will be awesome as well. Honestly, I'm already more than impressed with the game in its current state, and I'm looking forward to seeing each race's stories and lore in more complete forms.
Well, thought the whole list of changes/future stuff was worthless to me til that very last subject, about optimizing FTL lag.. Not that I've ever had FTL lag I have had crippling village/dungeon lag though, so much that I've never even seen an NPC, much less been able to interact with one to know what they did before, or compare it to whats just been announced for their futures.. Actually can't make a judgement/suggestion on any of them, as I've been eating fistfuls of predictable never-changing set-circumstance lag since day 1 instead of testing guns and getting a feel for the world, the balance of travel, the rewards of building, the cohesion of multipler.. Only thing I've been "immersed" in is lag, like Han Solo I have, though, logged 100+ hours on exhaustive forum searching and "workaround" desperation ups-and-downs (mostly downs!) :> Makes me think of building a nice giant skyscraper and then trying to tuck the concrete and stabilizers in underneath Though the whole point on multithreading wouldn't help me as my laptop doesn't have it (which I've heard only the newest and graphically intensive games even utilize multithread tech, and its better overall for lots of games if you disable it, which I would have already done in my 480-point check for "things that may make Starbound run better" If it ended up using multithread it seems like it'd alienate the low-spec playerbase even more..) Are graphics reducing options considered "optimizations"? Kinda thought they were necessities (Not that I think this would change the predictable lag me and lots and lots of others suffer from, though..)
Wow. This update will be HUGE. Really looking forward to it, as well as pets and the other stretch goals in the future. Keep up the great work!
Things like sandstorms and blizzards would really improve the immersion of the game. I also like the other stuff on the list.
Why the hell not? You could also craft a bot to sarcastically reply to all the oh-so-witty people on the forums as well... -- To everyone else... bear in mind this is more like a road map than a list of stuff that's coming in the next update.
If this is the price of infinite randomness I will take it! But if they could write and if/then for dangerous planets to equal space suit merchants that would be an easy fix I guess.
I don't like the idea of capturing npcs in pokeballs. It should be considered kidnapping and slavery.
Wow, this list pretty much covers anything and everything I could ask for. Only thing I didn't find on the list is how combat will be improved on the character side, what I mean by that is more variety in what we can do other than just hold left click... be it combat oriented tech, weapon specific skills or more consumable to play with ooooor that robot/mech thing. It's freaking great to hear that monster generation will be improved upon and that environmental hazards will spice things up, so that really just leaves our characters ability to fight and survive. Much exciting stuff!
I just have one small suggestion. Is there a way to add a way to add notes to visted/partially explored planets? Perhaps name your home planet etc.etc? Also maybe you could set a navigation pane to save coordinates of certain planets that you could upgrade later to save/house more? I know content isn't infinite but it seems like a ergonomical addition to an already great equation.
Yes! And then some more yes! Didn't even know the dramatic planet modification stuff was even in the works!
Yay for an infinitely upward scaling end sector! MY DREAMS AND WISHES HAVE FINALLY BEEN ANSWERED, ALL HAIL THE STARBOUND DEVS. Oh and space combat, terrforming and that other stuff is amazing too. Good work
