Ah then KeyTweak is the awnser to that problem. Still not a priority problem in this game because I can find a solution in just 5 minutes..,

By space I meant sci-fi, and I personally think this game has lots of potential and will be fantastic when it reaches it's end game state.

If we were talking about the best -legit- space game, I'd say Star Citizen is headed that way.

Either way, it was just my way of saying, I love Starbound. And I will not stop loving it.

I say give it time. Planets are one of the core elements of the game, so they need to work on that first before they move upwards (ha, space.). But in the end I have a feeling we'll have a fair balance of everything else. They did mention space battles.

Yet no sign of chaning the main issue of the fact we mine ore with pickaxes, dress on ye old metal armour and swing a old style melee weapon for the first few hours of the game, my main issue with the tone of the game.

The current discussion brought myself to a new game suggestion gravity boots (look at thread). This would in first line be a small step, but if you step one step back you would see the whole pic. It's the first step to space content and more gravity based content.

Think of walking in zero-gravity with gravity boots on the downside or the upside. Or both with your friend walking with you, just being able to switch gravity for yourself with g (gravity) key.

Just think of the content to come if just this small gravity boots mechanic would be implemented. It opens a bunch of new content. It would enrich the game and add one point to the SciFi-counter :D

ah, ok, I see :D ...haven't heard of one now, sorry. Guess there would have already been one since today if one was planned. :/

Given that most character races are fleeing, scavengers, or otherwise I think it makes sense for them to scrape out a meager start and build upwards from there technologically. I do hope to see progression past these early tools though, I just mean it makes sense to begin with them given you are stranded, out of fuel, ect... You have a Matter Manipulator but you realize that for the time a brute force implement will dig better until you have the resources to build bigger and better things. (And I do look forward to the hope of bigger and better things implemented with time.)

Edit: seems Kitfox had the same idea as me and was a little bit faster...oh well.

You really really know how to beat on a dead horse you know that? even thought you got alot of examples how the game is Sci-fi and not like Terrarria you still get on and on about the Pickaxe and medival weapon/armor.

Even thought they make totally sense story wise. Picture this: You just escaped in a ship until it is out of fuel.all the tech you got is a 3D Printer without any blueprints and a Matter Manipulator (which is already pretty scifi if you ask me.) Just tearing your ship apart for stuff is out of question since its the only thing that could ever get you to civilisaton again. You land on an Planet which is not really technological advanced at all.And all you got to begin with is wood and stone, maybe some iron ore.
Now tell me,after you craftet a workbench, which makes realistikly more sense?
1.That you go ahead and craft a useful Tool like an Axe or a Pickaxe with a normal Workbench.
    2. OR that you suddenly can make some wonderous things like laser to cut trees or chainsaws and drills (eventhought you lack technology/fuel/tools to even create them).
The same goes for the Weapons and Armors. You work with what you got.You cant make some KevlarVests/Duranium armor or some energy beam swords out of thin air.

So Yeah. Pickaxes and swords make Perfect sense and should stay. You can already make Drills in higher tiers.
Thought i would not mind if some of the more future stuff (like drills/guns) would be craftable as soon as you got the robotic crafting tableand the right ore.since that would make sense too.

oh eayh, also this game is Sci-fi Fantasy.not only Sci-fi so sword and Armor are fair game.

I found a glitch where when you place down high-tech chests, it automatically regenerates the contents every time you place it ( regular chest items not techs). I hope this is fixed soon so nobody is accused of cheating.

Which proves the story would need rework too, as I do agree the story justify sword and armour, which it shouldnt, because we should have something diffrense then same old same old.

  15. Mermidion

    Mermidion Industrial Terraformer

I...guess you didn't read the last sentence. okay.again, just for you: This game:Sci-fi Fantasy, not just Sci-fi. Sword and Armour...totally justifyde.
What you Propose is to make a big change about something that has already been implemented in the core game and would take weeks to rework the designs , balancing (since you cant expect an Energy sword to make the same damage as an iron one) and story (what to do with the Glitch?). they would have to stop (or even shutdown) beta progress for a time before it would be ready again.

Also that is basicly something what You want.I dare you to start a Poll about getting rid of all the medival/not modern things. Even if at least 1/3 of the fan community would be against it,it would be enough to show that it would be a bad decision and do more harm than good.

No.if You want to have modern stuff so badly over medival .wait for the game (or more advance beta) and make your own Server were you can spawn stuff with commands.Or wait for a mod (o make your own) that switches all the medival stuff for modern early game.

I figured there would be something aside from the stone axe that was for cutting down trees. Even after you get iron and gold and stuff though all the other axes are weapons and not tools. They should make the Iron Axe able to cut down trees like the stone axe does and not just be a weapon.

  17. Mermidion

    Mermidion Industrial Terraformer

That would make sense . A chainsaw for highter tiers (when you got better crafting tables) would also be good.

maybe only craftable for certain races..i got as far as you can with humans, and didn't see them, so maybe they're race specific.

I play a human as well and no they are open to humans you need to make one of the other items to unlock them a portable crafting something or other.

These key re-map programs are less than an ideal solution. If no other reason than trying to type things into the search menu on crafting screens becomes a convoluted mess because you have remapped your keyboard. Also autohotkey and the like are not PERFECT utilities. Keys stick, or get missed by the remapping. It's frustrating as hell trying to run around and fight when a key sticks or misses and opens menus you didn't want.

It *should* be a higher priority because it's a damned easy thing to fix. EASY. Many games only offer key remapping from .ini or config files. This game has a config file, with variables that are passed to the game. To simply add the hotkeys to a section of it.. this would be very easy work. This is not some kind of uninformed assessment by the ignorant, as so many people want to throw around. I know what the hell I'm talking about. I am a professional programmer for over 20 years (30 years counting hobby programming) who has worked for companies such as PKware. They have the ground work to do it. It would be EASY.

It's not a priority to you, or others who naturally love WASD. But this is something that is a priority to many of us who do NOT prefer such a style. Where the "soultions" are really not ideal. And then we have to deal with people lecturing us like we are unreasonable for wanting an extremely easy to add feature. Just because of their own biases about the feature not being necessary.. FOR THEM.

Key remapping is a STANDARD feature of games. Yes it's beta but it's absolutely and EASY thing to do. The keys are variables in the code. They have config files that you could define the keys in and load them into the variables on startup.

I feel even more sorry for left handed people who have to put up with these crappy solutions and being told their opinions are not important by the masses who use the normal conventional keyboard methods, and arrogantly proclaim that anyone else who uses otherwise is not important.. or dismissed and handwaved as unimportant..

THIS IS AN EASY THING TO FIX AND IT SHOULD BE A HIGHER PRIORITY.
