Or at least set the lower tech bar at current day tech, drills instead of pickaxes, chainsaws (or at least modern looking axes) instead of a caveman axe made of stone, both craftable melee weapons AND guns etc.
Hum, I can't launch the game, either by OpenGL or DirectX, I got this error : Can someone help me please ?
Could it be that you modified your falldamage from any config file before the update was applied ? If so, delete the config files and verify data files from the steam launcher to replace them.
Just read the Changelog for Angry Koala, Love to see the new contents... @wipes mentioned - to add another two cents - like everyone will have Don't liked the character wipes at first, too, but they're important as breathing and explicitly and unambiguous announced. Some structural changes will otherwise lead to character converter, that needs to be maintained through the whole developing time devouring a lot of development time. In later beta stages I guess there will be less wipes (maybe a final wipe) and I would guess there will be a character converter for changes done after all three beta stages ended. Since then I'm on a double edged sword - I don't like wipes, too, but on the other hand - it's beta and somehow I'm glad that someone is slagging my spaceship My only tear is the seeds collected with my little Floran. This was a hell-o-hylotl-work have you tried it turning off and on again? Really, Sometimes it helpes Otherwise: Maybe try to repair with steam-repairing-content-tool. Try properties in your game list and auto-repair. If this won't help I would guess to try removing installation files. Sometimes a simple reinstall would be more simple as searching an error. Between time is great for refreshing fridge with next weeks content. I'm not a big help maybe, but this simplest solutions saved me some heartaches
"I wonder if there is any word on another update coming around" (me sitting around bored in the morning and I check the homepage regularly). Barely notice that steam is updating something. "Well time to get breakfast, but first I wonder what steam was updating?" Notice starbound got an update "Well time to get breakfast asap so I can hurry back and play some Starbound!" *throws pants on* *throws jacket on* *jumps through window, overshoots, and goes flying over the guardrail on the third story*
Yeah, replacing axes with more sophisticated way of extraction would be better. Like laser rays But I like the drills.
I found the problem, it was because of a mod, I changed a file in CraftableInstruments mod and now it works
Thank you for Angry Koala, implementing plant-able trees.... and even adding some promising water mechanics. Cheering for you.
You played too much Starbound if you jump out of the window cause you think you have a gravity bubble. Reminding yourself, there is a reality. You can't just dig the street asphalt and build a new house just next to it on a crossroad with the collected asphalt blocks. Remind yourself the NPCs just become insane if you try to hit them. And the police is not a boss-mob. But despite of this I hope closing time will come fast - need to plant seeds in the sandbox
Well they could, for starters, lower the general cost of pickaxes to further push the idea that pickaxes aren't the tools the player wants to use right now. Maybe make pickaxes actually break. So you start with 1-use tools (that can still be repaired). Same with axes and hoes/plows, though the lack of upgrades suggest that it's feature-incomplete. Besides, "sci-fi" is such a broad term. What you're expecting is the mainstream modern-futuristic kind of sci-fi, the kind of techs the Apex and Humans in the game have ready access to. We're lacking some kind of medieval steampunk sci-fi and alien-tech Mayan sci-fi here. Maybe more energy-based ores like or mine-able Avian Crystals. Don't forget, we still have a zero-tech race of Florans. Maybe some form of nature-reclaimed weapons? Same goes to the developers. We lack super-futuristic guns, or bizarre prototype steampunk weapons. Or a stone pistol powered by a charge-able crystal. I suggest we let them focus on the main mechanic of the game first. Many in this thread has stated what I wanted to say: Needs more extreme random generation and variety. [edit] Also they need more side-grade stuff. For now, we'll gonna have to wait 'til they fix the new bugs. [edit] But I agree we need craftable guns. Then maybe the Bows you've crafted can be crafted into a trophy display?
Albert Einstein: "I do not know with what kinds of weapons the Third World War will be fought, but the Fourth World War will be fought with sticks and stones." ...guess he does mean Starbound Love the sci-fi where simple old tech meets new tech like in Mad Max
does anyone know if starbound will be getting a steam sale anytime soon? would really like to buy it now...but im bumm, anyway great work devs for updating fast!!
If my eyes are not lying try http://store.steampowered.com/app/211820/ We already play beta But I guess you do mean a cheap christmas sale or something?
problem is tone, right now a low-tech tone sends lots of vibes of being nothing les then a Terraria clone, oh sure there space ships and space travel, but if ya skip that, where is the sci-fi? Where is the playful, creative aplication of technologi? Where is the wondement of jetpacking on a hostile moon dodging lava pools? Where is the thrilling shootouts with space pirates on a ice word, where every laser shot melt the land and forces you to think? I supported Starbound because I wanted a sandbox for the sci-fi nerd in me, not another Terraria with just a little bit more sci-fi icing on the cake then Terraria itself
We floran take away rocket launcher from alien and sstab it with it, nyahaha. Or laser gun, laser turret. We grew our roots in the inner of an alien spaceship and now travel with it. We collected lots of guns and lasers, killed alien robots with shield-defences and even fought against alien pinguines. Beyond normal content, which equals Terraria just with other graphics new contents will com like fog-of-war-space-travel. But the core planet view like Terraria won't never ever disappear. This is the game, this are the graphics. Small upgrades, but mostly the same. Seeing the difference in the more enriched contents does not make the difference in a big deal imho. You need a spacehelmet to get air on an asteroid is just a Terraria-content. If you seek another game, feel free, the world is big. Bug blocks are allways blocks. Devs already announced content upgrades will come, but they won't change the core, just enrich it.
I don't mean't getting rid of it, just "upgrading" more frequently. Using a wide variety of digging tools is more rewarding and interesting than sticking with 1/2 types all along. And I don't understand the trouble with the glitch. The Stargate Teal'c used a P90 when he freed his medieval-like people from old-fashionism after all, so what's wrong with upgrading when you meet more technologically advanced people ? x).
Honestly the beta of starbound is the best game I have on steam right now. Sometimes I forget that this game is only still In beta and it amazes me that you guys are still trying to make the game better. I will probably never get all of the stuff in the beta due to the huge amount of items. I just wanna say, great work guys, it was worth the wait!
Agree. Guess the big deal difference is the bunch of small piece difference in count. If you have a pickaxe, it is like Terarria. Even if you have a mining drill and a space ship. But if you count * guns * some planet biomes * some liquid differences * some gravity differences * some breathing differences * some biome-specific contents * some little extra-items, which only make sense on SciFi games * some spaceship addons * and further contents the sum will make it not being a Terraria-clone. in my humble opinion. I didn't like Terraria and didn't like MineCraft, even as lot of my workmates and friends played it. But Starbound I bought in beta stage. It something different cause of the planet-adventuring. Mostly I loved the idea to have a secret planet in a huuuuge starmap nobody will find, because it's so big. That's why I bought the game. To play hide and seek
Unless the make a major overhaul I doubt they change the main issue of the off tone tech progress, Starbound is a well made game and continue to show it, but the devs cowered out of the strong sci-fi tone of those first gifs and screenshots and blogs and played it safe with apeasing of the terraria/minecraft fans with familarity. Instead of challenging us with new ideas.
