Wish I could timetravel 1 year into the future and play the game then. All looks awsome, keep up the good work =)
Some very good points, but I think all these issues go away if they had just called it what it really is: a really far along Alpha. Beta, these days, is just a buzz word and not too much tied to the definition we find on a wiki.
Yeah, while playing I was always, like "This really shouldn't be beta. By all accounts this should be an open alpha."
Look, I understand your point. Yes, this is more alpha then Beta but if you were around the forums you should have known this. CF backed themselves into a corner with the Beta release promise.....and a small but vocal minority was just badgering for a release no matter the state. I (and many others) said that a premature release could have he exact impact as you have experienced. I don't believe you will have the Beta experience you envision until stage 3...and I suggest you wait and re-evaluate. CF should have stuck to there guns and missed the date if they felt SB was not ready....and let that small gaggle of ultra complainers move on to other things. I am enjoying the beta, I see great potential...but I totally see where you coming from. I just hope the early release they were bullied into doesn't hurt the long term goals of the project.
I'm loving the game - and to be frank, with the amount of mods out there already, the game should have more than enough to offer anyone!
I was hoping that there would be no more character wipes also does anyone know how to store stuff so that if you get wiped you can get it back?
Tiy stated there will be one more wipe before a adding a patch that will allow them to update without wiping. Unfortunately, your stuff wont be available anymore after that initial wipe.
There's no way to do that. however there is a trainer and a creative mode mod. I tend to use those to get back to where i was (a little after the penguins) and then ditch them and continue playing where i left off.
A far along alpha is a beta stage one beta anyway going off what beta was in early 2k. It was a more public test of core functions and game play where as alpha was a more closed test of everything else to get the game to a point of being stable and ready for beta stage of testing. True it isn't often that the coding for combat stats weapons and armor is rewrote in beta stage but to say it is a far along alpha is and to call beta a buzz word is comparing it to games that are unplayable and being sold for cash what was it that one game that was a Dayz clone?
^this^. The Trainer is very handy to rebuild, for example. I just wish we had some idea of when the final wipe is coming.
