I just hope you guys wont make a pay to win out of this game. I'll rather work hard to win.

Where did you see them mention that? I don't even see how this game could be built like that?

For a long time now, they've confirmed that there will be no microtransactions at all.

Trust me any type of multiplayer game like that eventually has some sort of op gear to sell for real money. Why would they want to mention it right now they don't have to, but I'm just saying that I would rather work for all my gear hard rather than just buy it and pretend that I'm such a badass and nobody can beat me in pvp or single player.

    That is great news.

A beta by definition is a feature-complete game which needs bug-testing and fixes as well as balancing. This game is nowhere near feature complete and falls short of the promises set forth by the developers in regards to the content and scope the game would have. If you look at the Starbound Roadmap you'll see a number of items which are purported as 90-100% complete, which are grossly underdeveloped and clearly have not been given attention to detail. Some examples of this:

Player mechanics - physics and movement. It is a common complaint that the animations and combat mechanisms are clunky and underdeveloped
Inventory - No inventory management buttons? No sorting or loot all? This should be looked into.
Core mechanics - physics - knockback, fall damage clearly not examined prior to beta?

Also, there are currently 10 tiers of content, and around the same number of armor sets. Currently the different tiers consist of very monotonous content. I.e mine tier specific ores, craft armor, craft boss summoning item, repeat. There is very little incentive to explore other planets because there is very little to find. In contrast Terraria, a game made in the same mold has over 40 armor sets excluding vanity sets. Many of the items that you find in terraria are found from bosses, hidden in special chests or are only in certain parts of the world. Meaning there is an incentive to explore different planets and look through the various biomes. What use is it to visit the various planets if there is no uniqueness in content? Save ore, advancing to the next tier is simply power creep.

When pointing to direction, I am suggesting that starbound lacks a definitive identity as a sci-fi exploration game as it does a majority of things in much similar ways to minecraft and terraria. I would think that core mechanics of the game would be set apart from these games due to the setting, however the following are clearly "borrowed" from the aforementioned games:

Pickaxes make no sense in a sci-fi setting when you have a hi tech spaceship - this looks like it will be fixed.
There are no sci-fi themed weapons?
One tech at a time and no accesories?

Other things completely lacking are quests, a story mode, player-NPC interaction, as well as others. If these things are finished, and just need finishing touches, as should be in the case of a beta release, why have we not seen these things in game yet? Where is this content? Are they hurriedly creating it?

Don't get me wrong, if Starbound accomplishes the goals it set forth, it will be an absolutely AMAZING game and I would be willing to spend more than $15 on it. But as of right now, this beta shows very little promise and makes me regret my purchase. I understand a lot of you are happy with the game, and I'm glad there are some who can enjoy it, but to me it feels like an empty shell of a game. Essentially I feel as if I am testing the engine, and nothing more. I do not intent to start an argument with this statement, and am simply letting the developers know what I think, if they will read it.

I will have to disagree with you i believe starbound is a great purchase, but its just my opinion. I'm always happy to check out in which direction the game is heading. If you don't like playing beta maybe you should of just waited for a full release of the game. Why wont you check this topic out http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

I've participated in Beata's before, and they've all revolved around the things stated in that post. What gets me is this: "but you’ll get to enjoy exciting new content added constantly".

There has been very little content added since the release of the beta. I have been able to left-click my way to victory in a few hours with the amount of content they have released. The game thus far consists of mining and very primitive combat system. For this to be a true beta test of the game, I would expect more things for us to test. So far, the main things they have released - combat, crafting, mining have not really been perfected yet, simple as they should be to balance. Glaring weapon imbalances continue to exist, early game balance is off, and not a single tier is truly finished.'

Also the updates have not been coming 'thick and fast' by any stretch of the imagination, and bugs that have been present since the betas inception still exist. I can see a glimmer of hope that this game will be good one day, but for now there is no reason to even bugtest the content, because all that needs to be said about its current state, has been said.

I see a lot of blind praise and hype that drives the forums here, and I hope that everyone becomes a little more critical of the direction and scope of the game. I am simply here as a voice of dissension, so that hopefully, the developers realize, many people believe there is still much work to be done.

Man, you need to take a chill pill. You obviously have not been following the forums enough to really know what you're a talking about, but besides that, it says right there in the launch screen what to expect from the Beta, game changes, updates, and character wipes.

Now on a more positive note, why not instead of ranting about how unfinished a game that has only been playable a few weeks now, you go to the suggestions. You did mention that you've noticed some of the suggestions have made it into the game. So, why don't you do the same.

I mean how cool is it that the devs are watching the forums, Reddit, Twitter and actually listening to the players and including mods that they've built into the finished game.

What I'm saying is, for your measley 15$, you could actually be a support into what is slowly starting to turn into an amazing game instead of ranting for very little reason.

    Edit: spelling

I would love if starbound could have a regular server browser (like counter-strike games, maybe?). The multiplayer is really just terrible for playing with my friends on our own small server, and that's basically what my friends and I were looking forward to when buying the game. I don't know if anybody else has trouble with this kind of thing, but it's just one problem after another for me.

There are two sides to every coin. Negative feedback is just as supportive as positive feedback, as long as it is done correctly. Clasgutr was not ranting, he was voicing his opinion. You're just getting aggressive/defensive at him because his opinion happens to be negative towards the game, but honestly I agree with him. This game has major potential, but it is still lacking MANY features. I understand what they are doing Beta wise in that they are adding features and allowing us to test them, but Clasgutr was correct in how repetitive this game is in this state, yet it was previously predicted to even be released this month as a full game (Yes, I obviously know that the dates are changed since we are playing the Beta right now). The planets have literally nothing in difference except monster difficulty, heat/cold, some have poison water, and how the planets look. The planets have no different ores (or at least not that I have noticed), the dungeons don't even have chests with good loot let alone there aren't mini bosses in there to beat. You end up having to craft your own sword just to get a good weapon, since getting better ones than the one you started with is nearly impossible. Heck, last time I played 90% of all the stone blocks just turned into cobblestone after breaking them(not sure if this has been fixed). It's not even fun to explore the planet. One whole planet is the same biome (I get it, that is why there are multiple planets, but again, all planets are practically the same), and on this planet the caves are pretty much garbage on the surface. Terraria AND Minecraft had a surface cave that could lead into a massive underground tunnel expedition. This one? You get a short little cave. I've found myself just making hellivators (tunnels that go straight down) only. Building a house on one planet is kinds pointless as you'll just move to a harder one to continue the tier adventure, so your previous house will be lost in time and space. Which, mind you, you kind of need that wood, which you just used for your house, to fuel your ship or build weapons.

Again, this game has major potential. It could be amazing. Right now though, it is still a child, and just as you must congratulate a child and offer it support and help, you must also punish it when it does something bad. Negative feedback is not always bad, but too much positive feedback is not good either. There has to be a perfect mix of the two, and what Clasgutr said was definitely not like what other people have been saying. He hasn't just been saying "This game sux, refund!" or similar comments. He actually went and put effort into his words, listed specifics of what he was talking about, and voiced his opinion on what is currently wrong with the game. Some people like the game, some people don't, that is an understood point, but the fanboys need to learn to not attack the unhappy people, just as the unhappy people must know how to not be rude and unhelpful, and annoyances.

Youre right, my post was a bit aggressive. Wasn't meant to be but, I think you guys may be able see what I mean if you take the time to read the updates the devs have posted on their Reddit and Twitter accounts. They back up all these claims they've made with pictures and videos. We just need to be patient.

edit: trying to get used to this forum app :x

Really? My friend and I play multiplayer(2 person) without much trouble, and neither of us have very powerful computers. Though that is once you get past the standard port forwarding and Hamachi type stuff but the actual game is fairly straightforward. What sort of problems are you having? Perhaps someone can help you. :)

It's no problem c: I know, the Dev's are working hard to create the great game that they have promised us. I'm simply saying that there WILL be people who are unhappy with the game, especially in its current state. Even the hardest of fans must admit that the game is unfinished. Silencing negative feedback will honestly cause negative effects to a game's creation. Think about it. If you were to constantly tell a game creator that their game is perfect and has no flaws, how will the game turn out? Sure, there may end up being that ONE game that actually is nearly perfect, but that is a very unlikely chance. Without negative feedback, no bugs will be fixed, aspects of a game will be input that are completely outrageous. The perfect game is a creation from the hands of both negativity and positivity (if that is a word). The negative hands point out the flaws, while the positive hands encourage and offer advice and suggestions.
