there should be an avian tech called re-ascended that let's them fly, really really looking forward to the planet sized spaceship dungeons
We could do that, true. Starbound is all about customization though. To me making our own ship designs just seems to fit naturally in the game. It's a real shame it isn't included by default once you can obtain the building materials. I know we'll be getting bigger ships, and even though I'm not one of those "Make a house out of my ship" players, going from sector to sector it makes more sense to take many of the crafting stations with you. I don't like doing it on a small ship though with everything looking cramped and even having bigger ships I'll still be thinking "this should really include custom ship building" every time I use my ship or want to load it up with something. I'll keep dreaming of when I can build my own Death-Star or my own Borg Cube or Enterprise without having to use a mod that may or may not make other parts of the game not work or be incompatible for multiplayer. Mods are great and the custom ship mods are the only ones I've seen so far I'd personally use, but it's so popular and seems like such a logical inclusion that it's a shame it isn't in by default.
Well it would be cool if we could choose what rooms or styles of expansions to add onto the ship if there was a way to fluidly add them without trouble, I imagine a block by block approach would be more complex and might be a problem unless the blocks were only addable with a special tool or other such restriction, and said blocks would have to be designed specifically to fit into the ship theme like Tiy showed, but I trust the devs will figure out what works best.
Building in interesting quests. Good dialogue. And well written NPC that one cares about. Or your game will just be another put one block on another game-clone.
I'll laugh once space combat is implemented to the point that you can equip a spacesuit, float up to the enemy ship, then pummel it into oblivion with your level 1 laser.
I pre-ordered Starbound and have not been offered the beta. It should have been available through Steam but it's trying to make me pay for it again. Help please?
If you preordered through this site.. For whatever reason.. Then the steam key will be on your Humble Page.
Does anyone else think it would be nice if the different races each had different abilities? I know each racial armor provides different perks, but not everyone will want to wear them all the time, especially if a better armor can be crafted. Like if Glitch could automatically apply tech without the use of the ship, but water was poisonous? What if Apex healed faster due to their genetics, but also became hungrier quicker? Or humans could get more value from food (McDonalds!!), but got colder faster? Maybe Avians could jump a bit higher, and had less fall damage, but mined slightly slower?
Something tells me that you're expecting too much from the lore. That would ofc be a good idea, but I don't see how you would introduce penguin bosses as anthing but comic relief x). Or even the planetary prison dungeon, as interesting as the idea of a lore behind it may be, it would come to nothing if all NPC here just try to cut your throat open. This is an indie sandbox crafting game first, not a space opera novel contest ^^. Yet you'll probably will be able to add your own questlines with mod support in the future, so don't worry if your dreams may not come true at first x) This has a strange Don't Starve appeal to me x). That's indeed a very interesting proposition for vanilla game. Hope that the character creation menu becomes more detailed in the future, tought, because that's a lot of info to display !
Any word/hint on when this final 'wipe' might come? I'm hesitant to get too involved in building if it's right around the corner...
