I'm disappointed with list, most features here are already known or just cosmetic\fixes. First of all - yeah, now will have ability to easily travel to own homeworld, but still no reason to do so. Merchants? Ok, anything else like big production lines electricity and power generation maybe? Or maybe some planetary super projects as "resource sink"? No, nothing like that. And terraforming? Why? Just for lulz? Starbound feels more and more like adventures of space hobo.
Da Vinci spent his life looking at the next grand project. Just fill the galaxy fill of brilliant fun for the player yet boring to code side quests and events THEN look at cool new features. Seriously the games only current weakness is that the huge dungeons and towns feel like just a glamorous barrel/chest search area.
When it said to choose between Safemode(opengl) and starbound launcher, I chose safemode because it was faster and more efficient! Now it's gone! Even if you click it on the launcher it takes for ever to load!
the list reads good. TEXT-SIZE: I still see no optimization for the GUI. when playing on high resolution monitors (even with 4x zoom) in their native resolution, ALL TEXTS and the GUI (inventory etc.) is way TOO SMALL. reading this one needs a micorscope. thats no fun at all THE CREATURES: good idea to give certain creatures certain abilities. (flaming climbing spiders - I like!) In general the creatures at this state are simply dumbasses. Why are they ALL JUMPING like rabbits? even big horned rhino-type of creatures? The worse thing about this is the missing JUMPING-ANIMATION. that looks and feels stupid in any kind. The game needs more variations in movement-behavoir und abilities. Creepers, Crawlers, Jumpers (some), Runners, Stampers and so on. Some should be bound to the ground like eg. Worms. In general creatures should be able to "know" their surroundings und use them in a kind of "natural" way - even when in attack mode. The state the game is at the moment this is a VERY BIG letdowner for me. The fights with randomly spawened creatures really suck at the moment. I mean when the fighting content in your game fills out about lets say 35%. then this time HAS TO BE a non-repetetive FUN-TIME. please put your powers in this part or throw the fights out. MINECRAFT by the way has the same problem. Even now. Please don“t make the same mistake. POSITIVE Creature-Things: Some do not attack the player on sight because they are friendly. I dont like the force from above (game-designer) to let a player kill everyone and everything (like in elder scrolls games) Keep up the work (you will anyway). This game could become a smasher. At this point I am still sceptical.
How about different gravity on planets based on their size / composition? Does anybody know if the devs even considered that?
I've mentioned I love you guys, right? Any word on scanning/naming creatures? Or did I just miss that?
I agree with this post, too! Smaller planets or low density should = lower gravity, and bigger planets or high density should = high gravity... I imagine they could make changes to gravitation based on the size of a planet relatively simple, but it wouldn't really do the idea justice just to go with that (oversimplified), and it would be tricky to determine a planet's density with so many other calculations involved in generating them already... It's still worth considering, though, in my mind, because it really would help sell the differences between worlds that might otherwise seem similar!
Cannot wait to see all of these features added in, this game just gets better and better, a big thank you and congrats to the whole team who clearly worked so hard on this amazing project! On a side note: Remember those characters featured in the early screenshots of the game i.e The Space Cowboy, Deathstroke-esque guy, Marine, Engineer, Girl with Bow and blue dress and the Scientist Lady, will we be seeing these characters return as NPC's for the story mode, or perhaps as costumes for us to wear?
I'm with this poster... One thing I've enjoyed about visiting NPC towns/cities is talking to them, but they're pretty limited in their vocabulary and ideas... It might be kind of cool if we could get a reputation/infamy system going, so that members of a species/subculture knew of us and had certain reactions/speech? As an addition or alternative, how about making Lore entries in the Codex something you can gather by talking to the denizens of the galaxy? It's cool finding the books, too, but seeking out the leaders of, say, a Glitch castle, to discuss their history, would be kind of fun for the armchair anthropologist(xenopologist?) in me.
Some freaking wonderful things here. I'm excited about the space battles and dungeons, something fans have been practically begging for. +1 respect for listening. If it was planned before you asked, well +1 anyway. Those biome hazards are gonna definitely change planets drastically, and I welcome them with open arms. It does get tiresome to face the same threats over and over, but hey... Stage 1 Beta. I'll live. I'm thrilled about the monster generation features you're planning on adding, especially since there's currently no rhyme or reason to how they function at the moment. But I had thought about something like that a while back- different body parts affecting behavior, abilities, etc. Not necessarily for Starbound in general, but just being a cool feature I'd like to see in games. Overall, I'm pretty hyped about this stuff. Coming from a guy who doesn't get hyped, but considering I've already seen what the game has to offer and the potential, and that you've proven that you know what you're doing, I'm looking forward to it.
Ship Size: Upgrade ship/increase size. THIS. This needs to be high priority. Look to the Extended Ship and Spacious Cargo Ship mods for examples of how a ship can be expanded. The way I see it, every other starmap upgrade should also come with a new chamber for the ship. By the time we get to Sector X, our little scout ship can potentially be the size of the old prototype space station. Killing the Penguin UFO could give you the Extended Ship's second floor. Killing the Dragon King adds the rear bay from Spacious Cargo Ship. It is very hard to decorate a ship when you also have crafting stations everywhere, and Extended Ship only just barely gives you room to set up a table, chair, and bed.
I'd say it'd require some tweaking; for humans, Hylotl, and Apex, yeah an infamy system would work well, because they have the technology to communicate to their distant brethren about some jackass slaughtering all the Apex., whereas Floran, Avians and Glitch obviously don't have the technology to do so, they wouldn't be able to really communicate outside their planet. At least to our knowledge. As long as some thought was put into it, I'd be thrilled with that.
Thanks for support! It would also be huge if the gravity altered depending on where you are in relation to planet's surface (high above or deep below = weaker gravity). More astronomical details would also be very nice, for example: - different planet rotation speed; - nearby bodies actually travelling over night sky (imagine a gas giant rising and setting, wow!); - rare planets having counter-clockwise rotation; - tidally locked planets (including ones locked by their star, with permanent day on one half of the surface, and night on the other); - Coriolis effect; ...In a word, all those details that will give you the feeling of exploring actual planets and not just looped flat maps.
Thanks for letting us know about these future additions/roadmap items. I'm really enjoying the game now and streaming almost every night. I'm really enjoying th e adventure - the future of this game is really looking bright!
Just landed on a ice-planet again and I figured, that it would be better if the smoulder appearance should depend on the temperature of the planet and not on the level of the current body temperature.
