i'm an american and i avoid twitter and all other "social media outlets" like the black plague.

there is a forum admin here, but i think he's more like "head moderator" than anything else.

 

I have only been watching the progress and playing for about a month so I dont speak from lengthy experience and this is all just my opinion/speculation in that short time.

I think they dont have a time frame yet, or know exactly what they are going to include in the patch. Tiy was just trying to throw a bone to the people who watch there every move and give us all a little update on the upcoming content. If this was in any way concrete news it would be posted here on the main website(with much more detail). They are trying to do us a favor and keep us in the loop so let us try not to tear them apart to much.

 

no, they do not do that. i know, it came as a shock to me, but unfortunately, the best we can hope for is a copypaste of the twitter post on the mainpage 2-3 days after the patch is pushed.

Tired of this mess with the release of an unstable server, the lack of any command. Fixes waiting for months. I really think to close my server, thank you developers for such slow work. During this time, it was possible to write a new game.

 

I just joined this thread and 600 odd comments seems like a bit much to sieve through. any mention on the next update? sorry if this comes off as annoying, I really just want human settlements to settle my character down in :L

 

If you are looking for Starbound news, the Starbound homepage is the worst place to look for. Try Twitter or just Google (starbound gamepedia)

 

It really makes no sense. Twitter is so irrelevant to me and literally everyone I know, yet you get more news there and on reddit than on the actual forums.

 

I need a DELETE button for my character.

Hey folks, I know it's aggravating that Dev communication's a bit...scattered, so I just went on ahead and sifted through the recent tweets and Reddit stuff for anything relevant that (I think) isn't in the recent news post.

From Twitter:

-There's a patch coming that'll make it easier for us to push faster content patches! Newsletter asap, sorry

-(in regards to the tardy newsletter) It's coming! 8( It's been a busy couple of weeks, full of meetings and things.

-Next patch will include .modpak support, simplifying mods back to a single file.

From Reddit, AMA with Tiyuri:

-Ocean planets and Hylotl towns are coming really soon, some hylotl content might be in the next patch.

-Ship building isn't too far off. It's likely the next thing in line after procedurally generated quests.

-A lot of balancing needs work, we'll definitely be buffing weapon drops.

-Breeding pets is definitely a possibility, it's easy to mix and match parts from two parent pets.

-Question: I want to be able to build a space station in single player, with my own npc's, not much of a multi player kind of guy, will that be possible? Answer: Yes!

-(question about server management) I think some kind of plugin system/API is definitely the way to go. Everyone wants their server to run a different way and we want to support that.

-I'd definitely like to add fishing at some point

-A lot more steam integration is coming. Workshop support is something we're considering, inviting your friends to join your game is definitely coming, cloud saves are being considered too.

-(Adding more lore) Aside from just the in game lore books it's going to tie into the game in a bunch of different ways. First off you'll gain race specific tech/weapons etc as you progress. Secondly the missions will tie together each of the races backgrounds in more of a meaningful way. There are going to be some big reveals in there!

-I could write a book on my thoughts on micro-transactions, dlc, etc. But very simply, I feel like micro transactions dilute a game experience. I feel DLC can be done right, but often isn't.

-Question: Will the tech tree be an ACTUAL tech tree? Like one where you have to select perks, and things like that (think the perk tree in Skyrim)? Or will it be more subtle, like the Armour you get would imply your tech path? Answer: It won't be an actual tree, it will be entirely transparent. It's more a gameplay mechanic tree, where progressing using a particular mechanic unlocks branching related mechanics.

-Question: Will the ships have more upgrades that aren't just size increases? Perhaps unique rooms, or cool things like that? Answer: We're looking at a whole bunch of ship upgrades beyond just the size. Though its initial implementation will likely just be size.

-The game is going to be supported for a long time to come! Several years for sure.

-Question: Is there a timeline for a "Who's Online" list and a "X joined/left the game" mechanic for multiplayer? Answer: Those probably aren't too far off. The joined/left message is probably very easy, the list a little more difficult but not hugely so.

-I definitely want to add more player made structures, they're so easy to add and coming across them in the wild is awesome.

-Terraforming is definitely planned, controlling the weather and massively reshaping the terrain are both planned. Entirely modifying the level of the planet isn't planned at the moment but it's an interesting idea.

-Being able to entirely destroy a planet and build planet like space stations are often requested and probably wouldn't be too difficult to support.

-The cultists at least will be explored a bunch more later on.

-The tricky part of building a huge tower dungeon is the worlds of different sizes. The sky is a different height on each planet.

-We might be interested in adding additional races at a later date, but no plans right now.

It's a shame to still see people still complaining after a very useful patch was put out. Seriously people, you get to play the game, would you rather not at all? They could have chosen otherwise. Coding isn't easy, testing isn't easy, making a game is far from simple (especially a great game). Play other games if you're so mad with what you have, as I have said before. I thank the programmers for their hard work, and I for one do not mind them working hard instead of being lazy slops like many want them to be just to get faster updates.

 

When I work on a project, I have to give regular status updates to the people who sign my paychecks. This doesn't cut hugely into my time for development, it's just something like 10 minutes a week (or 0.4% of my time, give or take). In a kickstarted game where the community ARE the people who paid for the dev salaries, I don't think asking for a bit more communication is unreasonable.


... feh. "You get to play the game". Like that's some huge favor and not part of what we agreed to originally on backing it.

 

Yeah Twitter is like a plague, this is why I am refusing using Twitter, and using Twitter is like buying a new computer just because a game demands you to upgrade to a better computer... I refuse both and that's enough said -.-

 

Yes, It will probably be there when the finished Product arrives, it's not every day you delete through a folder on your computer when playing a game -.-

 

It sure is annoying that the dev's are posting more news on Twitter etc. etc. than on the main forum here :/, Many of us ( me included) are not on twitter etc, etc, and are only following the game here, since it is the main forum, and should be the place with the most recent news :S i Wonder why they're posting more news, on the other sites than they are here, :S

I meant playing it early. I understand for the communication part, they need a paperboy/girl for the information yes. I'm just saying, try to be patient. It's a huge game, and that takes time even between patches. If one thing goes wrong, it's likely others will as well and then those need to be fixed only to make other things go haywire.

It most certainly is like a plague, I'll give it about two, three more years until it gets toppled by another form of social media. The same goes for facebook, at some point or another most of these sites will become myspace.
