What if in the whole "renting" kind of pixel making gameplay, when you get to the last level of base building in such a way that you are eligible to get to the next starmap, you also get a small teleporter that you can place in your base which instantly transfers you to another you place in your next base (only placeable in a top level base) so you can link them and get some sort of network of buildings going, like empire managing! :)

As a builder myself and a fan of managing games I'd love to have some way to keep my buildings current and relevant as I keep exploring the galaxy.

I am concerned about this as well. My current biome is very, very low for pixels - containers and copper for my solar system. It took a 4th planet before I could finally gather enough of each to move forward. Coal was also a concern, will I have enough on this next planet to cover fuel costs and the additional coal needed to go to the next planet?

It was a vicious cycle as I could not get better equipment due to lack of copper, locked out due to lack of pixels. So I died plenty of times and it ended up two steps forward three steps back.

So Edward Michael "Bear" Grylls can't make that fishing spear because he does not have $25 in his wallet? There is no one to trade with, it is a wilderness so why the barrier of entry that is money?

I understand using currency is a nice universal method of measurement and a clear metric for progression but is this the only and best way to do it? I guess I need to see the other systems in place like mentioned to have more confidence in the process.

The rest of the post looks good and it is always nice to have a general roadmap as we are still in development : )

-Redacted the previous statement, read through the whole post again and recognized the part about pixel percent loss. Thank god.

I'm still having difficulty with progression and fuel consumption alone, however, as coal is sparsely dotted about the surface of most worlds and the value of lumber, and cost to use it to make coal fuel is fairly high. I understand the terraria-like feel of the game, building bases and progressing and whatnot, but the way I view the game pits it in a more run-and-gun position. I don't want to build a base, I want to get out there and moonjump and burn myself in lava and swim in oceans.

On the other hand, with progression, it's not so much that it's hard, it's just tedious. Having to upgrade to one set of armor by having the previous set really deadlocks you into the progression ladder, and some people just want to mine up their unobtainium or diamondillium, make their armor, and go.

Aaaalso also also also, in relation to the Director tool, please for the love of god add an element that shows where players are on the starmap, and a function that allows jumping to that area directly to monitor them.

Yep, and you can create pixels out of ores, so this only causes confusion and it's not logical at all.

I created my post again as a suggestion: http://community.playstarbound.com/...s-purchasing-and-crafting.69575/#post-1768661

This game has a great many issues as of now, and when people say beta to put up some kind of wall to protect them for having to use any kind of reasoning, listen here. Yes, it is a beta, no, that does not mean any major problems will be fixed. Just because the game is in development, doesn't mean everything will be alright in the end. If you leave everything to other people, you will find a released game with the same problems as the beta, the only changes being that "It's a beta" Won't work anymore. The games pixel crafting is beyond silly and completely incomprehensible, combat gets stale very fast, especially with melee, as weapons all have the same animations. And increasing sectors offer little difference from each other other then a couple planet types and new craftable equipment skins with different stats. Yes, these are all problems that could be fixed in the beta, before release. But they won't be unless you actively scrutinize the development of the game. You need to point out of flaws of the game and where it can improve, that is your job as backers of the game, no matter how much other people will tell you otherwise. This game received 7 million dollars for a pixel based game. That's a ton of money. They may have a small team, but with that amount of resources, and the game's medium being easy to develop by even the newest of developers. I expect this game to be incredible and expansive. I will be sorely disappointed in it if it turns out otherwise.

I agree with most of the topics here, I've been playing multiplayer primarily as of late because the combat is just so repetitive and without many of the promised features that should come later it's only really good on your own until you get skilled enough to the point where the creatures can't kill you.

Top down open world multiplayer pirate game?

It sure would be nice if people stopped making pirate games top-down, Assassins Creed 4 is the closest thing I've gotten towards a decent pirate game in a long time, top-down just doesn't do it for me.

The closest thing I can think to a top down pirate game that I have ever played is GTA2 multiplayer which would be very refreshing to play again.

What I really can't wait for are the Director mode, the company stations, and the new ways of getting pixels. I SHALL BE A PIRATE LANDLORD FARMER QUEST GIVER ADVENTURER ON A SPACE STATION!!

Edit: forgot to mention how hyped I was about the top-down pirate game. Multiplayer Sid Meiers Pirates, anyone?

Will it have epic sword duels and dancing that uses the exact same mechanic as the epic sword duels?

Edit-Edit: just realized that the things i put as what i couldn't wait for was everything that you said.

I have the same concern as others in this thread. I'm primarily a solo/single player kind of guy, I'm a little worried that when I get to the endgame there won't be much there for me. Having a station sounds awesome, but I hope there is more than that.

I do think that these ideas for where you want to take Starbound are good, but I don't want to talk about those really. I wanted to comment on the news that you guys are going to start work on developing another game. I know that you say that this will not effect the progress of the Starbound development, and I'm not going to say you're lying. I don't even want to imply that, I have faith that this won't negatively effect your development of Starbound. But the question I have is is not negatively effecting Starbound good enough? Could these resources be allocated to make a positive effect on getting the progression on Starbound done in a more reasonable time frame. Because I do have questions about how quickly you can progress Starbound from what it is into what your plans for it are. The beta access is a good example of a justified concern I think, we were told we would get a 2013 beta and you only just barely were able to scrape by and fulfill that promise. In my opinion getting it up 27 days before the end of the year during one of the most socially busy times of the year for a lot of people does not meet the 2013 beta promise, it only means you at best technically kept your word (and yes I know, technically correct is the best kind of correct). Even beyond the beta release things, one simply needs to look in the game and see that Shields still have placeholder descriptions. How do shields not have a smiple "Blocks X damage" description yet? The block variable is already there, and you can simply insert this general description on every shield in the game which is two words and a variable insert. It's not much, but it would help you determine whether or not a shield you picked up is worth having without having to equip it and test it to know any numbers involved. So while this new game may not make development on Starbound go any slower, I really think you should ask whether or not development is going fast enough. I don't want a rushed game, but I also don't want it to be until 2016 or 2017 until this game finally has the features that it wants to or should have. You guys aren't exactly famous for being able to quickly crank out development, and since this is your first game for your company I think you need to think about proving to us beta adapters and future customers that you can actually get a game out before you start to venturing into some of your other ideas.

"The hylotl farmer family had a tranquil dinner that night. The crops were growing, the wages were good, but the father was silent all night long. He had a gruesome secret: afternoon, as the children went out to gather the fruits, he climbed the nearest mountain and killed some armed penguins and a battleship with his little bow. He regrets it now, he barely can bring himself to look in his children's eyes but he really needed that silver hoe.

all these goals sound fantastic this game is shaping up to be something special that's for sure, although I'm wondering if more armors/weapons going to be added? and if "novakids" are still on the cards, the space content sounds friggen awesome though, congratz Chucklefish. (Bows)

Posts about where you want to take Starbound are fine but unless you guys really get cracking I don't see the features you just mentioned realistically getting done before next year. And that's aside from the *last* feature list you gave us which contained even more stuff some of which even you guys realized was way out there and probably years into the future.

Like, Starbound is nice and all, but at this point it's starting to smelly weirdly like the-game-that-will-do-everything which either gets a mediocre release or never finishes development because it's practically impossible to make.

great, so, can those of us who have no desire to demean ourselves through trivial wars over property and money completely opt out of sector X or are there going to be materials there that we need?

Because if so, I look forward to the eventual mod that will circumvent it but would really prefer the developers had the consideration to not force it on people who don't play games competitively.

Also are we going to be able to do everything in the game if we want to or are we locked into skill trees? Because that would really suck.

I agree with the skill tree part, I don't think it's cool to be forced to play a linear path per character. If it is optional then that's a lot better because it allows more freedom. I wouldn't want to be stuck with one type of weapons for the whole play-through with one character as an example, that would feel really stupid.

I'm happy with the X sector thing though, it's a lot more exciting with free for all PvP at the end game imo. But of course it would still be optional, you could play on a private server with your friends to avoid the PvP, or play in single player. Or on a modded server that has removed PvP from sector X.

I have to say to those who have been speaking about the pixel system.

I never got why it was tied to crafting or progression. I don't understand why printer pixel ink can't be what they described at first.. a trade commodity, and a fuel for the printer.
Thats it. That was their first generaly stated plan on how it could work... and sounds reasonable still

Why didn't they try that out first rather then making it necessary for /everything/? I don't get why they seem to driven to make it to crux around which the game turns.
It just seems limiting and grindy. What is the actual.. gain in terms of fun from it?
