Exploring deep areas can be a pain sometimes, having to switch between your flashlight, torches, and weapons when an enemy appears. Which drops you in complete darkness if you haven't set a torch yet, making combat a nightmare with a two-handed weapon. What if you had a drone that would follow you around, providing light without taking up a hand? Proposed stats: To use it, you must first put it in an inventory slot and select it. While in your hands, it is a 2-hand item, and does not provide any light. Before you can have it follow you, you must first fuel it. This works the same way as the ship fuel does. While holding it, hit E to bring up the fuel meter. I'm thinking 1 fuel unit for 5 seconds of light is fair considering how easy it is to get wood. Once it's fueled, click and it will fly in the air slightly above and behind you, providing illumination about the size of a torch. While active, it is invincible. When the drone gets low on fuel (24 units of fuel or less- 2 minutes), a light on the bottom blinks red. You must retrieve the drone (by hitting E on it) before it runs out of fuel, or else the light will go out, and it will fall, and possibly roll away. At this point it has the same physics as a block of sand- rolling down slopes. If it is hit by enemies or falls too far, and takes over 30 damage while out of fuel, it is destroyed. I'm thinking that it'd take steel and a brain, at least. You'd have to have beaten the first boss to craft it. It'd be much easier than exploring with flashlight/torches, but at the cost of high fuel consumption and the possibility of losing it if you're not paying attention. Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
Just place torches and set your weapons in your Left and Right slots so that you can hit X to switch to them in a pinch. Otherwise, use yellow stimpaks. On the note of the actual suggestion, I think it could be a useful tech or possibly an armor ability. I think techs should move away from being just movement buffs like they seem to be right now and have other effects.
