The final character wipe will be included in the next patch!

I kind of like it and all the stupid crying that made it happen. Now I can add in all kinds of OP items before they can fully implement more complete anti-cheat mechanism.

 

well even if i gotta start from scratch i know someone who is gonna use that mod. i may just hassle them for my bandanna and carry on. though i probably won't play much until these wipes are a thing of the past. i only get to play once in a while and progression is very hard when you need to start from scratch every second time you play.

Yes i understand, it's a beta, these things happen. and while these moments have been frustrating I will say that i HAVE in fact enjoyed dabbling with the game thus far

 

well, if they don't wipe the worlds i will not lose anything, been putting everything in one home planet with all my chars, my ships are completely clean too, if it's only a character wipe, i can say my body is more than ready.

 

Yes yes, it's a beta, i get that, i was just trying to confirm if it was just going to be a character wipe only or a ship/world wipe as well. Basically asking "are we losing everything when this happens or just character specific stuff?"

also since i got into this late and have never seen how a character wipe goes down, does a character wipe involve a characters simply being reset to starting stuff, or an outright deletion wherein you have to do a full character recreation?

 

News is too good to have any negative posts associated with it. I choose to believe they are figments of my imagination.

 

Assuming it goes like the last character wipe, it'll completely purge your /player folder so you need to go into the creation screen and start a new character from scratch. Redo the quests, etc

I would edit your thread title to specify "The final (character) wipe ......". Just so people doesn't get the wrong idea and start making megalopolis cities.

I have a feeling the universe and ships won't be safe, so you can keep your character loaded with your most important gear when upcoming universe wipes arrive. I can live witht hat just fine and will finally feel like getting every character to end game gear

 

I dont know if it was smart of them to tweet saying it was going to be the last character wipe. Its always possible something happens or gets changed where maybe a character wipe is still needed, up untill now it was simply beta being beta. But now people will have something to complain about.

The wording used in the "future of starbound" was just fine, altough a lot of people already mistook that for no wipes ever. Even tough it clearly said "reduce number of character wipes in the future". Meaning, less then needed upto this point but not saying it wont ever happen again.

 

I don't exactly care all that much, since I'm currently trying to mod this game, so I'm already wiping character after character, and world after world, as I test my mods, and I doubt that these next few patches would have much of an effect on my ability to mod in stuff.:whistle:

 

I'm playing only few days from now and I notice that the universe data are separated from the char data. I know you shouldn't make backups because there could be some missing features. But when I only back up the char data I would keep my inventory and ship but the universe would be deleted and with the new features again generated.
Am I missing something or is this possible? Would you recommend it?

 

You gotta love that "Soon™" style of update notice. I hope the devs are a bit more timely with their "Soon™" than other companies are. It's a shame I'm going to lose my character, but it is fun to start fresh.

 

YAY!! With a promise like this, I'll just wait for the next patch to play again. Can't wait!! Plus I got Borderlands 2 and Risk of Rain from the steam sale to keep me busy in the mean time.

 

No. With each "wipe" what they're really doing is changing the formatting of the player/universe files. Your ship was wiped with the last 'universe' wipe because it is actually a world file itself. It's unknown how exactly they're making it so character wipes wont be necessary, but you probably won't be able to recover your ship/universes.
Someone earlier was able to change the header of the file to match that of the newer characters, but it's rather buggy and I don't think the ship works... MAYBE able to get down to whatever planet you're over, dump your stuff in chests, and forget about it.
But keep in mind the devs want you to reexperience the balance of everything when things change, so keeping all your old stuff is not something they really wanted.
Each wipe is not actually a wipe, but a change of formats. The game will try to read your old files and when it cant it will rename them to blahblah.world.130490646985.fail or just delete it in the case of your shipworld.. I'm not sure what it does with old player files, if anything.
