why not have races like elves or dwarfs...would be cool...

Adding a new race into the game requires more than just "here's the name, go for it." Also Starbound is a Sci-Fi game, not a fantasy one, so I highly doubt we'll see anything fantasy-like.

 

I don't feel like Starbound is the game for these kind of common fantasy creatures.

 

This kind of thing needs elaboration.

But I'm a stickler for Elves so if Space Elves ever became a thing I'd be happier than a pig in shit.

 

I loathe elves, unless they happen to be viking elves.

No to this one.

 

No dwarves, elves, trolls, orcs, dragons etc please.

This gets all of my no.

Starbound's races are fascinating because they defy stereotypical ideas of sci-fi races. The plant-people are not gentle hippies, they're violent predatory cannibal tribesmen. The star-people aren't a wise, mystical, aloof ancient-race, they're a bunch of wild-west cowboys and gold rush miners with short memories. The robot race aren't emotionless high-tech machines, they're a defective artificial culture experiment stuck in the Middle Ages.

Adding a fantasy-genre race to a sci-fi game is bad enough. The idea of 'space elves' has been done to death. But to add a stereotypical fantasy race to Starbound is flying in the face of everything that makes the Starbound races great.

OT: Sci-fi game + elves, NO

Its not because of what it takes, the fact the game would have an elf race AT ALL would make the game instantly lose its awesomeness.

 

I doubt an elf would make this game any less awesome I don't see why it's so bad...
maybe I should just call them "long eared aliens" that would probably fix it

 

It needs more details though. Like a back story, behavior to other races, sprites. They should have some sort of unique characteristics to them. Maybe they could be elves with an industrial theme, or an elvish race with a mafia theme? Either way, I wouldn't want it in the game. It seems to much of a fantasy race.

 

why DON'T we have a mafia styled race? We need to make one, it sounds awesome.

 

I think elven society has been portrayed enough to know what they are like...why do I have to add any bells and whistles?

to be fair...this game is a huge fantasy in it self xP whats wrong with having a few humans running around with pointy ears?

this is really just me saying "hey....elves?" plus...I think it would be cool...even if i don't really care in the end~

 

Because whats wrong with it is if they put it in, they'll totally be disregarding the genre they were setting out to make.
You need to start taking this seriously, you didn't put effort into the main post, you're barely listening to what anyone has to say, and your only reply's consist of saying "just pointy ears" "this game is still fantasy" and such. At the rate you're going, you're simply driving your idea farther and farther down into the ground. Which at this point, you must be doing, otherwise you're just ignorant.

 

If you don't care, why should we?

Maybe, next time, think about a more detailed suggestion?
