(Just an idea, if I win the contest, you can do what ever you want to adjust the monster to your needs.)
    The Elemental
The Elemental is secretly (and more recently disturbed and unearthed) old-age space tech, with an A.I. core that phases into natural material with the most mass, controlling the other smaller, and similar, materials with its (the A.I. core) gravitational processing drive. In this case, this is a Nature/Stone Elemental, with a fairly large rock for a central body for the A.I. core, and the vines being controlled by the core's gravitational drive, constricting the other stones to it's own control. They can hack into electronics, although many prefer not to, because of a fear that the electronic may contain malicious software and viruses that could damage their A.I. core. The Elemental can camouflage themselves, and instantly transform themselves into a pile of passive, sitting rocks. There are many various factions within the Elemental, mainly a Functional (good intentions) side, a Rampant (Bad intentions) side, and the Guardians. (Neutral, controllable) They have a rivalry with each other, where the Functional is in a war of control with the Rampant. The Guardian try to escape this mess as mercenaries.
    The Functional Elemental
These Elemental are quite friendly; provided you aren't shooting their homes and claiming their land as yours. These Elemental still can process their Combat Inhibitors, and see the difference from a human or other similar good people, and the difference from a 3-headed monster with venomous qualities that is hostile to all other life forms. They are the more intelligent Elemental and they refer to other Functional Elemental as their own kind; family members, or clans/groups/factions. They prefer to talk and befriend other species, instead of conquering others. They even make homes, and can trade with other species. They also talk other languages (hinting towards whatever language is made for humans) of other species, by their functional translation device in their cores. They are outnumbered by the Rampant Elemental (A good 1 to 5), but have more people altogether than the Guardians (A good 2 to 1). Functional Clan leaders are known to be one of the smartest (and most powerful) beings in the universe.
    The Rampant Elemental
These Elemental are the more hostile ones; they are known to hide and appear as natural objects, and then ambush their enemies/prey, or they attack other species head on, even the Functional Elemental, just to be seen as the dominant race. They disagree with the Functional, believing that they should conquer all life forms and they see themselves as superior. They have no need to trade with others, and are the more savage-like Elemental. They only talk to other Rampant. They do not need to see the difference from a human or a snake, because they believe that they are able to conquer both. They easily outnumber and out strength their Functional and Guardian counterparts, but can easily be tricked or sneaked past, due to their nonfunctional, crazy internal system. Rampant Clan leaders are VERY powerful, some are even ex-Functional, trying to overthrow the Functional side.
    The Guardian Elemental
The Guardian Elemental are basically the controllable Elemental, or the A.I. cores that have drifted from the Functional or Rampant to become mercenaries and fight for money. The Guardian are, in general, what their name says; protectors, or bodyguards for hire. The others are controlled by rewiring the A.I. core, or reprogramming the system and functions of the A.I. core's directive.
    The Types of Elemental
Nature: These Elemental are found in old ruins, caves and the surface of planets with flora/foliage.
These are made up of some rock, and mainly foliage. (Vines, Grass, Mossy Stone)
Stone: Along with the Nature, these Elemental can be found in rocky caves, rocky surfaces, and on mountains.
They are made up of stone, rocks, and minerals. (Rock, Gemstones, Minerals)
Metal: These Elemental are usually the Guardians. They can be found as guards for labs and military bases.
Being Guardians, they are outfitted with hard metals. (Scrap Metal, Stainless Steel, etc.)
Fire: On fiery and volcanic planets, and near lava and molten rock, you can expect to find these Elemental.
These guys are made up of how material. (Fire, Molten Rock, Lava)
Ice/Water: Near shores, ponds, rivers, and oceans (frozen bodies of water too) are where these live.
Made up mainly of water, and other similar material. (Water, Ice, Polluted Water)
Earth: These Elemental can be found in caves, and other deep and dark areas, with soil.
Made up usually of natural material/particles. (Dirt, Sand, Gravel)
Depending on the material it is made up of, the Elemental can do different types of damage; Vines and grass could do poison damage, along with polluted water. Fire and molted rock would do fire damage. Scrap metal and rock would do physical damage, and can cause a bleed effect. Ice and water can have a slow/freeze effect.
    Attacks.
The Elemental can do various attacks, basic to advanced, depending on the amount of knowledge or skill of the Element.
Smash: They lift their 'hands' up, then proceed to smash down.
Swipe: They quickly attack with their hand.
Core Disruption:The A.I. core pulses, stunning both the core and anything around the core for a couple seconds.
Self Destruct: If the Elemental believe it cannot survive the encounter, it starts to slowly self-destruct, imploding the core for a second, then exploding with the material it is made up of.
Elemental Attacks: An attack it also has is in conjunction with the material it has, for instance, a fire Elemental can shoot flames and lava, as Earth or Stone Elemental can shoot materials currently used in its body to be flung at the enemy. The 'brave' Elemental hack into other electronics, turning them against their own users, such as laser guns, war machines, and small vehicles.
    Anatomy:
For convenience, I have posted another picture of the Stone Elemental. The Rock with the face on it is the nucleus, where the A.I. core is located. The stones on the sides of that rock are the arms/hands. The rocks under the nucleus are the legs you could say, moving in a cycle-like movement as to propel the nucleus. Each 'leg' is connected to the nucleus, so every time it moves forward, so does the nucleus.
    Stone Elemental.png
    Combat:
The arms could act as shields for the Elemental, and the legs and nucleus can be the hit boxes. The Elemental is a rather slow monster, as it chooses a large mass for its core protection. It has 3 stages of health. The Elemental also are usually seen in pairs or groups, so never expect a single Elemental on it's own, unless it is a warrior.
    Stage One:
The Elemental is in a healthy state, and occasionally will just smash and swipe at the enemy.
    Stage Two:
The Elemental gets serious. It either raises its attack or defense and speed, and uses elemental attacks.
    Stage Three:
The Elemental knows it's in trouble and will begin to either randomly use it's core disruption, or self-destruct.
    Loot:
The drops also can be affected by mineral type; Gemstones = Precious Diamonds, Scrap Metal = Salvageable Scrap Metal, etc. Some A.I. cores don't explode when killed, and that can be salvaged for information as well as scrap.
Hope you like this species, and if you read every single thing on the info, then thanks very much for your time.

Love the idea behind elementals. They were always some of my favorite beings to play out in DnD being as they were typically temperamental and "cocky" in nature :)

I'm sure it could just be a misunderstanding. Rock-golem-thingies are kind of a common idea (not that this isn't a good idea), and this person probably didn't see your idea.

This is a great idea! I personally like the fact that you put a great deal of thought into their social structure, and the fact that they come in so many different forms.

Cool way to show your monster man :D
Dont worry if there are similarites, too many people posting stuff, its nearly impossible to sift through them to see if you were lucky to think of the same idea as someone else.
