The Inspiration Hey! While I was checking my shiner traps, I got to thinking about Starbound and the different races. After some thinking, i thought, "Say, what if stick-men were in Starbound?" and thus, my mind gave birth to a new idea! What are "The Doodles"? The Doodles are a race within Starbound that are basically stick men. No hair. Shorter than the average human. Not nothing but an outline. Sounds boring? Well... no! There is so much more to them than what meets the eye! They are a very intelligent race, but extremely weak as well. What can they do? Hoho, you ask what they can do? My my, where can I start... Looks: An outline of your average stick men, coming in many colors Weapons: Dark matter to draw their weapons, ill get to that later Houses: Think of making a house in MSPaint, that's what theirs look like, but with straight lines Whats Dark Matter do, and how can I get it? Dark Matter is literally the soul of Doodles. Since normal blocks and weapons are too heavy for them, they simple put the blocks into a machine, called The Doodler, that converts them into Dark Matter Pixels. They make houses, weapons, armor, and anything else you can think of! They also use it as currency. There are different "levels" of these Dark Matter Pixels, higher levels make better items: Black: Does basic things, takes 10 to make the next tier Grey: Does some more things, like basic weapons and tools, take 10 to make the next tier White: Can make better things, like tools, armor, weapons etc... takes 15 to make the next tier Blue: Third to best, can make average things, takes 15 to make the next tier Red: Second to best, can make above average things, takes 20 to make the final tier Void: The best, can make anything, but it takes many to get really good items History of The Doodles A relatively long time ago, on a planet far away, was a scientist, who had just discovered Dark Matter. With it, he made weapons, armor, buildings, machines, and many other things. He also made people out of it. Now you see, this scientist was a bad drawer, so they looked rather... bland... But they were very smart. When the scientist died, they started a massive empire, that lasted for many years. Just recently, though, they were attacked by alien pirates, a huge fleet of them, that cut off 75% of all trade. Since then, they just kinda started their own highly-technically-advanced civilizations. Hostility The Doodle people are pretty pacifist, but don't try to attack them, or else you'll end up with either eight-seven bullet holes in you or no arms. They don't really like to take in strangers from the outside, because of what happened to them by the aliens. Gallery Not really anything yet
Plain stickmen would completely ruin the immersion of the game. I would also prefer to see some more original, more alien races such as Avians.
But, if humanoid birds can exist, why not stick men? Maybe if it wasn't a default race, maybe one that after discovering a village and doing some quests they unlock?
Because stickmen aren't as original as humanoid birds, they don't seem very "alien", and there's still the problem of immersion. I don't want to play on a server with a bunch of ugly-looking stickmen. I think it's their appearance that doesn't really appeal to me.
Oh ok, yeah. I personally think they look awesome, because I really don't like tons of detail. I like simplicity, and stick men are the epitome of that.
I like this idea a lot! It's quirky and fun! Frankly I happen to think that the anthropomorphic animal schtick is a little overdone, so something out of the box like stickmen is a breath of fresh air!
Humanoid birds aren't too original themselves. However, I do agree how stickmen won't blend in with the game.
how about in stead of being "stickmen" they can be men made of actual sticks. you would have to change the name though.
I agree with this, I think stickmen would be a breath of fresh air. I kinda disagree with no hair and no eyes though, because I think you should have the option of having your unique hairstyle and eye color.
I pretty much wanted them to be very basic, but line-eyes would be ok. You can also choose what color you want them to be.
