So it has been a few days since my last post, everything is still going well and still alive and kicking after 5 planets in, but before we get into the nitty gritty of it I'll start with some tips.

    Tips

As it was raised earlier, and given there is probably people still not aware, weapons can have alternate attacks. It is usually uncommon or rare items that posses dual qualities and it is always worth a look. For 2 handed weapons merely test using left and right click to see if the attack changes. For 1 handed weapons it will vary based on if it is in your left or right hand, for instance when using it on it's own or when dual wielding with a tool like a torch.

Also for those that use variety is the spice of life like myself, on cold planets beware of water. A recent change has made it so water in cold areas will freeze you extremely quickly, this water is visibly different so it won't be an instant surprise but still it is worth knowing before you decide to dive in to mine for ore at the bottom thinking it is safe.

Now that the brief intermission is over, lets continue the saga of Zetrial shall we.

After Zetrial stashed and cleared his bulging packs he set back out to the second Apex test laboratory he had passed due to exhaustion earlier, delving down and safely bypassing the traps as he had with the first. His reward was a second tech, pulse jump. With his reward in hand, he stripped the base of some valuable materials he could carry and would be of use for building his home.

    2014-01-29_00040.jpg 2014-01-29_00041.jpg

Zetrial having finally secured his landing planet (Seriously that place was bloody huge, as is the snow planet I secured later on, multiple hours to go full circle each one with the snow planet filling my inventory 3 times) set about making it a little more comfortable for himself, so taking his axe and pickaxe, he went about gathering materials and drastically increasing the size of his living quarters, building himself a cozy little hovel, taking care to replant the poor trees sacrificed for build his home.

    2014-01-29_00038.jpg 2014-01-30_00009.jpg

His new home complete, he set out to securing his sector (I'm so OCD about clearing a sector before moving on). His first destination a desert planet, ALMS 2, with yet again no weather and a couple of USMC prisons, not wishing to leave such dangerous elements alive and posing a threat to his fledgling community he set to task clearing them out. After throwing down his flag to claim the planet he would move on to ALMS 3b and 3c.

    2014-01-30_00010.jpg 2014-01-30_00011.jpg 2014-01-30_00012.jpg 2014-01-30_00001.jpg

On 3b he would first encounter a strange Avian whom he believe may have in fact been a stripper and shortly afterwards a band of pirates, apprehensive at first and ready for a deadly fight he was surprised when the Avians offered to trade out of respect for his having looked like he had been in a scrap or two. Zetrial had always been a little bit of a pyromaniac at heart, always fascinated and enchanted by fire, so he could not believe his luck when the one of the items offered to him by the pirates was a flamethrower. Without a second thought as to price he snatched up the flamethrower and headed back down to the planet eager to test his new toy. Needless to say, he was like a fat kid with cake! He was in love.
With this new source of joy in his life, he would quickly subjugate the native wildlife present on the planet and claim it for a source of resources later on.

    2014-01-30_00003.jpg 2014-01-30_00004.jpg 2014-01-30_00005.jpg 2014-01-30_00006.jpg

Moving on to 3c he would finally come across some weather at last (I think my first planets are all well and truly overdue for meteor strikes, that is my only explanation), the deadly acid raid. Taking care he would head underground when it would rain, it was here that he stumbled upon a large community of what appeared to be walking, talking mushrooms. These creatures seemed peaceful enough, but if they ever try to resist or impede his stripping of the planet for natural resources he will burn their villages to the ground (I guess humans still didn't learn after their big wars over massive resources shortly before the fall of Earth). After taking care of a giant beast at their request he claimed yet another planet and then moved on to the final habitable planet in his system ALMS 5.

    2014-01-30_00015.jpg 2014-01-30_00014.jpg 2014-01-30_00019.jpg 2014-01-30_00020.jpg

ALMS 5 was a chilly snow planet where his flamethrower was put to exceptional use keeping himself warm and the natives crispy. Finding the planet relatively uninhabited, he would spend most of his time on planet mining and looting chests, he was again blessed with good luck in finding a vicious bone hammer (Holy crap this thing is insane! If you find one at your current tier, use it regardless of it stats), perhaps karma for his saving a poor Avian about to be thrown off an Avian temple earlier in his day. He did not look a gift horse in the mouth and kept mining and looting. His bags would bulge multiple times on this giant snowball, often requiring him to retreat home to stash his pilfered goods.

    2014-01-31_00003.jpg 2014-01-31_00004.jpg

Happy that his home system was safe from any threats, unless one of the many moons in the system is secretly a Death Star, he decided it was time to build a beacon to send out a signal for the all clear for any more human refugees to come and join him on ALMS 1. Sending out a signal he was quickly surprised when it wasn't refugees whom answered his call, but penguin pirates! His home now under threat he shoulder his trusty rocker launcher and set to bringing down this menace. With his vicious mentality and a health dose of flamethrower added it the pirates did not know what hit them as they plummeted and crashed down into ground below (I think I got a little lucky here, I only had vanity armor equipped after forgetting to reequip it when testing the effects of a radiator heater I had looted, thus I was actually naked for this fight)

    2014-01-31_00005.jpg 2014-01-31_00006.jpg 2014-01-31_00007.jpg

Looting the wreck Zetrial found engine parts and co-ordinates for the penguins base of operations. Thinking that there may be more pirates with his co-ordinates and looking to raid his home he contemplates his next actions, does he secure his home and then strike out at the source? Stay tuned for more!

Now that is the Alpha sector done dusted, I shall be heading into Beta over the weekend, only after burning through the vast amount of ores I have gathered off the 5 planets I have tackled thus far. I think I have enough resources currently I could skip Beta all together with only having to hunt for a brain, but I want to build and expand my base a bit so I will be doing that first and foremost.

Well, I wrecked that penguin's UFO earlier today and read the lore from the codex he drops. Expanded my coralcreep and wheat crops, mined the Hell out of some ore, updated my starmap to Beta, and put together a full set of pond armor along with a coral crusher. I might actually start exploring the rest of the surface one of these days but cave diving is just so much fun! One of my favorite parts of this game is discovering huge underground chambers that seem to come out of nowhere...like, you're just digging your own little tunnel to get deeper and suddenly, you find yourself staring at a big, black abyss and you not only can't see how far the nearest wall is, you can't even see how far down the pit goes in the first place! Makes me feel like some big honkin' Kraken will wake up and snatch me right out of the darkness. But all being said, how about that "hot tub" to relax some sore muscles after all that mining? :p

Made a new character and killed every boss. Need to get coal to leave for the X sector.

Come across the random bandit camp with one monkey in a cage. Kill bandits and hit E to open the door, instead it puts me on the hay bed inside the cage with the ape monster with the door still unopened and it auto 1 shots me instantly.

Something like this happening could easily be fixed by not allowing sleeping when the bed and monsters are within a small range of each other. Sam with going through doors by accidentally clicking on a chair.

Apparently, I encountered a glitch as I ended up killing myself...somehow...by teleporting back to my home planet from a spot in Gamma. As soon as I beamed down, I simply went *poof!* and all my wonderful stuffs went flying everywhere. So ends the brief life of the brave, brave Twerkus. RIP!

I had a similar experience myself, teleported down into an asteroid field to just flag it and landed at the bottom of the map, instant death. I think perma death may have to wait until things are stable enough to not instant kill you for some things.

in cases such as that, "cheating" all your items back is a valid option. after all, your death wasn't because of your own failings, it was because of game-breaking bugs/glitches.

I had a permadeath character named Cod-Lord or something

He got killed by a very angry mushroom man.

    What an awesome idea.
My first attempt is going to be with an adorable Floran named Marsh.
I spent plenty of time making him, knowing I'm going to regret that when I die within the first 5 minutes.

So far, after waking up on his ship he beamed down to be confronted almost immediately with a glitch guard carrying a flaming sword.
After a battle that felt like it took forever, little Marsh emerged the victor, claiming the book store he was guarding as his prize.
After he finished making it nice and homey, well as homey as a dilapidated book store missing a roof can be, he set out to explore the rest of the planet...

True, but I guess I'm just a stickler to letting the dice roll as they do. Even if the dice might be a tad bit "loaded" in this stage of development. On the other hand, however, I continue on with the adventures of...

    Space Ape 1.png

...as he tries to uncover the mysteries and survive the dangers of...

    Space Ape 2.png

...and so far, the fruits of his labor have rewarded him with an establishment that looks like...

    Space Ape 3.png

All dramatic flare aside, I've actually been putting together my surface base very slowly because in the time that I've spent on this planet so far, I've pretty much gotten myself as upgraded as it gets until I knock over the UFO and I've yet to figure out what the weather type for this planet is. Er, I'd rather not go crazy with the building and then have a moon-sized meteor come crashing down on everything.

    TIPS
Don't build the "basic shield" in iron anvil crafting menu. It doesn't protect you at all. Just died when I tried to use it to protect myself.
Stay indoors at night (obvious but still)
Don't be overconfident and take on mini bosses at the start

okay, so i still haven't started my second life yet. i think this time, i'm going to go in with knowledge. anyone know of a USMC base in alpha sector that i could go visit and snag a gun of some description from? i have no idea how gun drops work, so i'll just say i'd prefer a revolver and a glock, for dualwielding badassery.

    But it is cheating.
What sthe point of doing permadeath if you can just warp to a certain place and get good weapons?

doing it once is a slippery slope, then it turns into doing it anytime something happens you don't agree with.

Weapon and gun drops seem random Hex, you best bet is to get the co-ords of an Pirate Airship in Alpha, then buy what you want off them... mmmmm toasty flamethrowers...

Sharing co-ordinates isn't even remotely close to cheating, you still have to gather fuel and then get there, find whatever you are looking for on the planet and then make it there without dying.
Cheating would be making a copy of your player files every time you log out and when you die just throwing in your last copy and picking up where you had last left off.
