Today I started up the game and was surprised to see asteroids falling from the sky and crashing into the planet. Unfortunately the third time they started erm... 'raining', I didn't see it in time. RiP Attempt 1, lost but not forgotten. RiP.png

Tip: first planet, build your house underground, watch out for meteors!

yea, DEEP underground. the big meteors will strip a few layers off the planet.

#13 Airship Propellers, and dark matter flying out of a capsule can instantly kill you. Not sure about the other traps, but I wouldn't try putting them around the house.

  6. I used a shield when gathering dark matter just to be safe, I don't think I got as much as walling off the generator, but I felt like Indiana Jones, so it was okay.

Oh, that's what kills you? I thought it was an insta-death trap.

Okay, I have fully explored the starting planet and gotten up to Knave's armor. I wish racial armor bonuses were in the game so I could get faster mining speed... I didn't have enough copper to make a copper pickaxe, which is a shame since I have enough silver for a silver pickaxe. I also found a Pulse Jump tech on the first planet near the end of my exploration.

Moved on to another planet, a desert one close by the sun in the same solar system. Not sure what I'll find there, kinda hoping to get the dash tech. Moving faster is great for all sorts of things.

Is there a way to delete the character once it is perma-dead?

Well I was feeling a little bit masochistic so I decided to run a permadeath char after giving hardcore a few tries and learning not to risk anything, especially when it comes to lava and tesla traps.

So allow me to introduce Zetrial, former trooper of the 2nd Martian Engineering Corp whom abandoned his posting and assignment on the battlefields of Mars upon hearing of the desolation of Earth, to try to save his pet dog back on Earth.

    2014-01-28_00002.jpg

He managed to 'procure' a small vessel and flew to earth where his dog was still alive and kicking, he couldn't believe his luck and even managed to rescue some others. After fleeing the now overrun earth and enroute to a set of co-ordinates from one of the other survivors, the dog mutated into a tentacle monster killing the rest of the survivors before Zetrial could throw him out the airlock!
Now stranded whom knows where and without fuel or assistance this is the start of his saga.

According to the nav computer he was stuck in the Alpha Lyrae Minoris system (I swear I have started here previously...)

    2014-01-28_00003.jpg 2014-01-28_00004.jpg

Beaming down he encountered his first creature of this new world, it was surprisingly friendly and merely barked a couple of times as Zetrial got to work securing his landing site.

    2014-01-28_00005.jpg 2014-01-28_00006.jpg

Night soon fell after he survived his first night, he could hear strange noises and cowered inside afraid of what manner of beasts may be lurking outside. After a brief rest he decided to put his engineering skills to use and forged out a meek cave next to his landing pod and even built in a kill hole which worked marvelously for the monsters prowling the night.

    2014-01-28_00007.jpg 2014-01-28_00008.jpg 2014-01-28_00009.jpg

The following day, knowing he needed a food source that didn't rely on killing these dangerous beasts he set to clearing a plot of land for farming, during his endeavor he stumbled upon a horde of vicious beasts he quickly named 'Axe Tails'. He managed to clear them out and finish off his farm plot, throwing down some corn, wheat, and an avesmingo he had scavenged. Before returning to his further devolving cave for his second night on Alpha Lyrae.

    2014-01-28_00010.jpg 2014-01-28_00011.jpg

Now that he had a reliable source of food he set off to explore this new land further and mine what he could find. He stumbled upon a strange capsule that he tried to open releasing some toxic gas (Thankfully they fixed the 1 hit kill of these things.... now we just get burned or poisoned). After fleeing the cave he stumbled upon a friendly Apex whom had a storied background, this unfortunately did not help him survive an encounter with a 'Sabre Lizard'. After avenging the poor Apex night quickly fell. Knowing how dangerous night could be he quickly fled towards the now abandoned house for rest and safety, stumbling into a super Axe Tail that was hitting for 40 damage and nearly killing Zetrial before he managed to slay the beast and retreat inside the house for his third night.

So, 3 days of survival so far, I would delve further but unfortunately work is calling for the night so it shall have to wait until later. It will be interesting to see how far Zetrial can take his saga and if he can find a new place and live happily among the stars.
I am nervous as anything with him though, so far I haven't seen any weather on this planet and I am fearing a giant meteor, small ones I can avoid and stay safe, but I have had giant ones level entire mountains leaving meteorite rock strewn all over the rubble before and I hope that is now the case here.

Tip # 14: Plant seeds/crops at the beam-in site. More crops yields more food, more seeds, and plant fibers.

A tip from me: If meteors start to hit, don't run around, don't dig down. Beam straight back to your ship and cool your heels for a while. This will reset the weather, thus preventing any further damage to the planet.

Also, meteors are pretty much why I'll not be doing permadeath for the foreseeable future. Far too random for my liking.

I had some time last night to play some PermaDeath….

I love it. Really brings a completely new and different strategy to the game. You must really prioritize things and have a strategy at the start. You can't just run around all willy-nilly when exploring/adventuring either.

Probably not best to build anything of artistic value, especially early. It's all about survival. Which is kinda cool.

Definitely a nice change-up and glad they added it. Forces you to play at a slower pace and makes the game a bit more intellectual and strategic…

I may not play it all the time….but it's now an option that adds some different layers to the game and makes me play it differently. I know some people will HATE it and never even think of playing it, because it means you can't play the game at breakneck speed all the time…but I LOVE that it's been added.

    Some general tips for bosses-
    • For the UFO boss you need at least 1 bit of tier 1 racial armour and an iron bow, make sure you have plenty of badages to and a sword handy for killing the soilders. If you luck out and find a village with guards with guns, you can abuse that to get an easy kill on the UFO, the houses provide plenty of cover from his laser and the guards will at least bring him down to half before they get killed.
    • The robot is super easy, you just make a wall with a hole just big enough for you to get through, put the robot on the other side then activate him and run trough the hole, congrats you just beat the robot, just beat him down with a half decent sword and the battle is won.
    • The bone dragon is super easy to abuse, as long as you stay completely still and don't move an inch his fire will NEVER hit you, the only thing you really need to worry about is colliding with him as it does a considerable amount of damage, remember to use village guards to your advantage and to find a decent gun (If you don't want to spend the next 5 minutes spamming near useless steel arrows that is).
    • The jellyfish is another easy exploit, it's like the robot but in this case you need to trap him in an area where he can't float out by climbing it (using overhangs), once that's done you just mine towards his middle and start beating away at him with a decent melee weapon, be sure to have your shield handy when the blobs he shoots out explode.
