Bloonytes are a Race Idea I have for Starbound. Lacking artistic ability, I have nothing to show yet. However, I know a guy who can get it done later. So, how about some mental imagery? SOCIAL Bloonytes, in appearance, are very similar to humans of the olden 21st century. Same body shape, hair styles, clothing selections, you get the Idea. They almost always are in some kind of positive mood, only becoming serious in difficult or life threatening situations. However, they have some characteristics that set them apart. These balloon-like humanoids have no real religion to speak off. Instead, they prefer to share religions with other races. Bloonytes' social talk usually involves what games they've played, how their clothes are, their favorite type of gas to inhale, etc. BIOLOGY First off, their skin is a variety of fun, yet slightly pale colors. Blue, Yellow, Red, Grey, you name it. They also have a short yet adequate tail, which both starts and ends in a rounded cone matching their Skin color, while the tail itself is thin but matches the color of their hair. Their skin looks and feels thin despite its durability. Additionally, rubbing their skin makes unusual noises that range from completely annoying to absolutely hilarious. These factors aside, their main trait is their balloon-like qualities of inflating and deflating. The Bloonytes's midriff and stomach area is exclusively made of skin slightly different from their main body. This allows their stomach to inflate and shrivel without becoming inherently girthy or expanding any other part of their body.(Females' stomachs inflating perfectly spherically, while males' inflate hexagonally. Likewise their clothing is built around this trait, with males' shirts being loose and females' having no material over their stomachs). This interesting ability has two important qualities. First off, this allows Bloonytes to store food and fluid in their stomach without it being wasted. The food and fluid at the bottom of the stomach is digested, with inedible material being digested and expelled from the body in the form of vapors, while edible material is converted into pure energy which is used. The rest of it is stored until it reaches the bottom in the stomach. This lets Bloonytes eat a much larger variety of objects and foods than other races. If Bloonytes over eat and their Stomachs reach full capacity to where it would otherwise burst, it is automatically turned into said vapor and expelled. This makes Bloonytes eating machines, and often literally eat their own path if there isn't one. The other use is for storing gas. Bloonytes can literally consume almost any type of gas, using the same inflating and deflating characteristics of their food storing abilities. For example, if they take in enough helium to fully inflate, they can fly through the sky. Bloonytes reproduce by a male and female Bloonyte inflating themselves each with certain ingredients, including raw meat, string, rubber, and dye (even more ingredients on some cases). When each their digestive tracks attempt to digest these, they are mixed together into new materials used to make into their child. afterwards, the two parents are placed into unconsciousness at a Hospital, where the ingredients are extracted from the mouth, and assembled into a new child by doctors and surgeons. IN-GAME INFORMATION Bloonytes' ships are very rounded, resembling a long teardrop with the large end facing forwards and dual thrusters on the back. Outstretched power cannons are mounted firmly on the sides of the ship. The interior is covered in Tire Lights, which are circular wall lights outlined in black rubber. Should they be added, Bloonytes' Hair Style, Hair Color, Skin Color, personality, Tail Pose, shirt type, pants type, and Undy color likely would be the customizabilities. I could also imagine names like "Squeaky," "Biggut,""Puffy," and "Aireater" being a few random names. In my Mind's eye, I could imagine the Racial Armor bonus being a reference to the Bloonytes' large stomachs, thus allowing wearers of their armor to double their hunger, taking twice as long to starve to death. RELATIONS WITH OTHER RACES Humans: Bloonytes are well aware they resemble the Human race, and, save for their 1.4 meter inflating guts and long stringy tails, are structured similarly. Likewise, Humans and Bloonytes get along very well. Evidence even once existed that Humanity made contact with Bloonytes mere months before Earth was destroyed. Although, it IS hard to prove this, considering that Earth is now a mix of Giant Tentacle Beast remains and chunks of space rocks. Avians: The Hyper religious Avians get along well with traveling Bloonytes. As stated above, they have no real religion, so Avians are happy to enlighten Bloonyte travelers on the ways of Kluex. However, most of the Avian race has been jealous towards Bloonytes as a whole, as even though Avians were stripped of their wings and were made flightless, all Bloonytes have to do to fly is have a belly full of Helium or some other gas lighter than air. All that happens when Avians try this is a High pitched voice... Apex: The Bloonytes are far from the wisest race there is. Now, they're not exactly as bad as the Novakids as in "That's great and all, but...can you say it again?" all the time, either. And while it's hard for them to take anything seriously, they suspect when something is up. Most Bloonytes are fully aware that the Apex majority is being suppressed by the Miniknog and Big Ape. They mainly tend to stay out of starting another uprising, though. Other than that, Bloonytes are a big fan of the Apex race's humble, civilized, and hyperintelligent-ness. Apex are generally neutral to the rubbery balloon people, and still try to keep the fact that their civilization is under a Dictatorship cross bred with a sick, twisted Oligarchy and Hitler's idea of a perfect community, though. Florans: Although they're naturally mean and barbaric, Florans really don't know what to think of Bloonytes. Any interstellar survivalist, no matter if you're Human or Hylotl, can tell you that Florans stick to bone, wood, stone, and plant matter. They know very little of rubber. They will spend hours on end, puzzeling over how Bloonytes can inflate and deflate, and will spend equally as long time rubbing all over their skin, amused and completely confused about the noises they make. Hylotl: Hylotl and Bloonytes rarely meet, and often have mixed emotions. They can range from swimming and practicing martial arts together, to Bloonytes being inflated with gasses or materials that are venomous to the beloved fish people and Hylotl slicing them open like actual balloons. However, Bloonytes always feel spiteful and envy about how the Florans drove the Hylotl away. Glitch: Glitch, with their medieval minds of black fever and sword and shield, usually identify Bloonytes as Humans in possession of witchcraft. Of course, this is only Hivemind Glitch - self aware Glitch are aware of and like the Bloonytes. Glitch often like to make friendly pranks on Bloonytes using their balloon traits. Trivia -The Bloonytes are known for swallowing people and storing them in their stomachs without digesting them. The reason vary. It can be that they were asked to transport them safely, or it could be that they do it to keep themselves from being eaten or killed, instead turning the tables. -Commonly, Bloonytes will attempt to see how many of them can fit into a single Bloonyte. This can be done for three reasons - as a party game, a dirty thing, or as torture. -Rarely, a Bloonyte will be born without the inert sense to stop eating or absorbing gasses to prevent popping. However, interestingly, studies show that Bloonytes can actually inflate three times as much as their bodies will let them normally, and no one quite knows why. I think because it's just so silly. I read it and liked it but I guess I didn't have anything to say about it. I do think it's a kind of clever idea though!
