I think its cool that we have this, I just hope that we will also see random species in the game as well, even if they don't have lore to them.

 

I'm not a big fan of birds. What this tells me is that there will be more awesome playable races that I might like.

 

I'd be fine with this being the only playable race - they're awesome-looking. Any other races are just bonus.

That's awesome, and I love the backstory given for them! I can't wait to see what other races are in Starbound. I hope there will be a backstory for each playable race!

 

Those dudes are EPIC. I think I may play as one.

 

Love the originality, and the backstory for the Avians. I'm SO glad to see this not turn into a generic rpg with elves, and dwarves, and orcs. The detail in that temple is gorgeous, and it has a rich cultural feel to the location. If this is what we're going to see for all the races, this game truly WILL be the most amazing I've ever played.

 

I'm a huge fan of birds as a few peeps may already know, and think that they look and sound like an excellent race to start off with. The temple is so well designed, and the imagery and ancient historical feel that's gone into it is fabulous. Also nice to already see some individual player customization.

 

Ok, so I was examining the picture a little closer, and if you look into the pool of water, there is what looks like a genie lamp .

 

*raises hand* I CALL PLAYING AS ON OF THEM!

 

Didn't expect bird-people , really cool idea.

 

They appear to be the equivalent of Indians, but with more feathers. Interesting, may play as an Avian.

 

Wow. Fantastic work guys, really! They look amazing. I love the whole Egyptian meets futuristic theme too. I really hope I can make my character look like the red one. Definitely gonna be playing as these guys over the humans or gorillas so far I think! This shows good things for other awesome races to be in the game too though, so not going to make up my mind too soon. This is just as I'd hoped, something original instead of just recycling the usual fantasy races!

The procedurally generated temple is amazing too. It looks like there's going to be such a massive variation in background items too, I swear we've seen completely different things in nearly every picture! Can't wait for another video showing some of this stuff off. I wonder how big the variation in size of these is gonna be too? It should be amazing if there's going to be buildings like this procedurally placed on planets.

On a side note though, it looks like this is a separate location to the main 'planet map' and is entered via the door on the right? Does this mean we are going to be able to build enterable buildings that are separate to the main world? Or are they going to be placed into the main world and this was just for test purposes?

 

I do hope that this isn't an "enterable" building like what Alvin said, it would just be a bit... odd and might get annoying in terms of when you are actually building things, also it could prove a bit awkward for say, you're bombing the planet? I still want the ability to drill my way into a dungeon or something. I want to feel like inside is not bigger than the outside.

Anyways, do you guys have any ideas on any "themes" that could match the Avians? I'm trying to find a decent soundtrack for the video, but I can't seem to find anything that fits them.

 

Bird people? J'aime!

Seriously, most of the people here were expecting Apes as the only other playable race, but bird people is a really good idea! Their background is really good, and I want to know more about them! They look really, really classy, and the fact that you can almost fully customise them is a big plus. I hope you can make them look like penguins.

The idea of using metal wings as a jetpack is also good, and makes more sense: they might use technology, but they still seem to have a strong bond with their past/traditions.

It seems like the devs were inspired by the christians: making a mistake that led them to be punished (Adam and Eve from the Bible), afterlife (Heaven), and in general, religion braking the evolution of technology but another civilization helping them out (around middle-age, muslims invented a lot of things, mostly in science).

Of course, it's really stretched and I may be wrong on some facts (I'm an atheist), but I immediatly thought of that. Am I the only one?

Yeah I agree. I hope that everything is kept on the one map really.

Wait. Video?! What video?! Am I being a complete moron again?.... But as for them. I think something staccato would suit them well, along the lines of this.

One of the best, if not the best, soundtracks of all time, and one of the best games of all time. So underrated.

EDIT: Or maybe this for a slightly more relax part of their planets

 

I don't care if there are 200 other playable races in this game, I'm gonna be an Avian and make a huge temple to house my Avian friends/army.

I love all the assorted items in the temple as well. Really makes it seem like a real temple.
