Hmm. None really now I think of it. A memory serves it's created as a gel (hence the name) and then allowed to dry out leaving just a fine glass-like molecular structure. So it can be shaped into almost anything (though it's structural properties are similar to glass too, and finely formed glass is quite fragile)

Do Avali as a whole have a particular genre of music they like? Do they prefer vocal music, or non-vocal music or whatever it's called?

    Instrumental?

    Instrumental.

I'd imagine their music preference would be manipulated by what they grow up listening to, unless they keep an open mind. Aside from that, it's all up to personal preference. They have great ears and refined minds, they'd like to have great eargasms. :v

As someone who loves music, that makes me jelly.
    Wish I had those ears!

By the way, considering that the avali have a different range of hearing (and soundmaking) than us, would their music still sound good to us? (And by good I mean, you know, actually sound like something we would recognize as music, and or pleasant music at that, barring personal preferences)
    And vice versa?
    Same with singing voice(s)?

this is a slow day for the nexus so far.

It would depend on the piece, I'd imagine. People like to experiment with extremes. Avali extremes I'd think are more extreme than human extremes.

    Also, considering their hearing sensitivity...
This should be a good way to torture an Avali.

    (Extended version for you masochists.)
    Please turn down your volume.

Your antennae are probably picking up the wifi.

Reminds me of that quote avians will sometimes say...

"Oh, it's not that I'm not happy, in fact, I have a very good reason to stay an Avali. The only thing is that I'm apparently allergic to water or... H2O, Avali instinct fights with my mind as if it were some foreign disease, and every other planet bakes me like an oven without proper cooling systems. And various other 'only things'"

So I am a tiny radar. Nice.
    Wait...
Is that why I am sometimes imagining porn and leetspeech?
    Which quote?

I thought you'd been a part of the thread long enough to the remember half dozen times this has been explained :p

They're a very distributed society. Different societies and cliques no doubt have their own music styles and preferences. They are technologically advanced though so there is no reason to think they rely solely on traditional music styles in general. Given their neural augmentation they'd probably have better mixing technology and skills than humans. I'd also expect them to be a little experimental since there is less appeal to following the mainstream for the sake of money

It really does make me think of obsidian. Not so much in structure, but the sharpness that can be chipped away.

Since it'd heavily reliant upon situations and the Avali themselves... Just thought about an avali visiting another culture (say, Hylotl) and getting inspired to use aerogel and such materials, but in that culture's style.

That or I'm just making excuses to see an aerogel katana.
