I already have "Deal with it" in the item description. (It's also currently the internal name by which Starbound refers to it.)

Yeah, "Meme-glasses" was more of a placeholder. I'm thinking something more along the lines of "Shades of Indifference" or "Shades of Nonchalance".

Maybe "Hipster Shades", just to keep it simple? (I need some input here, guys!)

 

I'm kinda impartial towards the longer names. So I say "Shades of Nonchalance", but that's just me.
Also internal name best name.

In this context what is meant by "shackled" is that it is physically isolated from the outside world, in effect it lives in it's own little world and outside handlers provide it with external data, it has no means of outside contact other than through it's handlers - no neurotoxin emitters, dangerous obstacle courses, defence systems, nanoconstructors, connection to global infrastructure or devices that can arbitrarily shape reality. The restriction comes from the fact it behaves in a fashion consistent with self awareness and giving full access to an apparently thinking machine is risky to say the least

At any rate more precise details about how it 'thinks' or behaves will become clearer as and when I'm able to start exploring story content better in later phases of Starbound's development.

 

Bah, I think I need to rewrite the description. The "deal with it" part would imply that the reader might have a problem with the previous statement, which was "wearing these makes you 20% cooler."

Maybe I should change it to "These shades are 20% cooler than you'll ever be. Deal with it."

That is a very interesting question, as always (I'ge been a long time lurker)
I would guess that given avali predisposition for practicality the oracle would consist in a very advanced calculating sistem with a high learning capacity, enabling easier executions of complicated commands each time they run, or the consideration of a new colony in an alien world (with all the variables of climate a n xenobiology) without an excesive need for reprogramming. I can certainly picture it having a personality, but more as a consecuence of it's self-learning(and therefore a reflection of avali personality) that a measure to reasure the puny meatballs.
However I'm probably just being a rambling idiot, ryu will probably give you a more thought out answer.
I also have questions about the oracle, thougth it's more of the historical kind . You [ryu] have described before the avali goverment, and for what I gather is only enabled by the oracle's efficiency.
So my question is: what chain of events leaded to the oracle creation?
Usually a goverment evolves from the one before, given how the creation of new tipes of goverment brings also a new way of thinking. Seeing that , the most apropiate moment for the birth of the oracle would be after the misterious race that elevated them (solarians?) dissapeared and after the wars that ensued ended. Bassicaly in the creation of the avaly goverment.
Also how was it created? Was it the work of one person(avali)?
Or more of a team effort, like the manhattan proyect? Also could have been an old relic found in the depths of avalon or a navigation sistem left behind(and built upon afterwards)?
Also(going along with the wall of questions) related with the creation time, was it an intentional creation? (did the goverment council woke up one day and said, you know what would be cool? A shackled IA...) or was it more geth style? (Created little by little until finally you ended up with a IA)

Why do I get the feeling the Oracle might be capable of encoding some means of communication the handlers can't see? I suppose because that's what usually happens when super-intelligent beings/machines are kept captive in fiction.

The Oracle sounds intriguing though. But keep Keanu Reeves away from it, because then you get sequels..
