  1. There must be a charm to the furry raptors, I might have to give them a try. I have a few questions about the mod, but I won't drab your clan forum for that!

  2. Surge

    Surge Phantasmal Quasar

I believe we have a mod thread for that, we had to split the threads because we were clogging it up with our nonsense to the point where it was hurting the forum servers

But that's what this is for!
As in, the other thread is for specifically modstuffs like bug reports and developmentstuffs and apparently lore? But here's for pretty much everything else avali. Unless I'm being stupid again.

And yes. They do have a charm.

No! Stay back! They're a complete black hole for your life, save yourself while you still have your freedom.
In all seriousness their charm is a very strong one, I got sucked in and am hopelessly stuck to this, though it's not like It's unpleasant.

If I were more industrious, I'd be so tempted to make the Avali equivalent to lolcats and chzbrgr..

Gentlement, I present to you... AVLOLI! A collection of humorous and uber cute Avali doing cute raptorish things. (And a few creepypasta things)

Well Avali on their home planet would probably have incredibly deep voices due to the thick atmosphere, I doubt that they would have ever evolved a specially tuned vocal cord to compensate for the atmosphere density, but possibly still put out a really shrill squeal when hurt or surprised (I bet some Avali canshatter wine glasses when they squeal), but still I think their vocal range would be normal sounding in an earthlike atmosphere.

    Normal-sounding defined as what? :p

I dunno. I kinda like the idea of avali having squeaky voices compared to our range.
    Shit's adorable yo'

Ah, finally wrested my password back from the forums. But one thing at a time:
    dreKjke.jpg
A lone marksman prowls the desert wastes...

    ....

I'd wanted to ask this when Ryuujin was on, but with my forum troubles that didn't happen. But here goes regardless:

    The Oracle system.

A computer system developed for evolutionary problem-solving, the Oracle supercomputer seems to be a large, centralized, continuously self-adapting network designed to constantly improve itself and its ability to calculate and react to new scenarios, while using its increasingly efficient spare processing power to solve any problem that its Avali handlers give it. Of course, the Avali aren't idiots. Such a self-evolving system needs certain hardcoded restricting paramaters and safeguards to prevent the computer from evolving in unhelpful ways, from reaching murderous conclusions, or from flooding the enrichment center with deadly neurotoxin. Presumably, this is what it means when Ryuujin says the Oracle is "a shackled AI".

But what does it mean that the Oracle is an AI system? There are many differing fictional depictions of artificial intelligence, so how is the Oracle defined as one? Is it self aware (at a basic level, this might become evident if the Oracle's long-term plans started to account for other plans that the Oracle might make in the future)? Is it aware of itself, but in a way completely alien to a normal biological sense of self? Does the Oracle have a "personality" it projects, and is this why it is classed as an AI (and if it does, how "real" is that personality; does the Oracle really have 'feelings', or is a personality just a convenient interface to allow the fleshy meatbags to feel more comfortable)?

And if the Oracle handles most of the problem-solving of the Avali, including providing basic blueprints and design work, would one of the "rations" provided to Avali citizens be an allotment of processing cycles to use at the Oracle system? Or is the system so powerful that it can easily handle simultaneous demands from the entire Avali culture?

Beat Risk of Rain. Funny thing, my comp lagged the last area to Matrix speeds, and that's the only reason I lived.

Posting a screenshot. Bee, don't look at it if you don't want a spoiler.

Well considering vocal cords normally are proportioned to the size of the individual, not to the air they breathe, (shorter people have slightly higher voices, as do children) the atmosphere only has an effect on how the sound is modulated, not how tight their vocal cords are, therefore it's quite safe to assume they would develop similarly to other lifeforms with similar anatomy (humans and such).

Meh, forget it... I'm too damn tired and all sorts of other things are combining to turn my brain to mush... I'll see if I can explain it all tomorrow.

Still hard to really talk hard science and apply it liberally to a space opera, it's all open to interperetation, so many concrete walls one could hit.
