Have you ever wanted to make a Rapid Fire Plasma Shotgun with exploding projectiles? If not, then you are sad and I have no further need to talk to you. If however you do want one (or weapon of equivalent awesomeness) then you may be interested in this proposition: The Arms Bench allows you to disassemble guns you have found and recreate them into new and awesome weapons with your own personal touch. How does it work?: Well, it requires 20 Durasteel bars, 1500 pixels, and 10 titanium bars at a Robotic Crafting table, and is about the same size as one too. 1)To make the most out of it, you need to acquire a valid gun (not a bow) and disassemble it (the Arms bench will show you how) to which you then have the parts that make up the gun 2)Then, after disassembling enough weapons you should have enough parts to start making your own personal problem solver, assemble the parts of your choice as well as a metal (Iron to Impervium), and click [MAKE], the game will then generate that gun as well as stats and a rarity depending on the parts and metal used (Legendary parts added to the gun will automatically make it legendary regardless of the other parts added to it) 3)Give it a paint style and a name 4)Start shooting things with it, if it doesn't work, disassemble it and try again! This idea is always up for improvement and my main worry would be balance, as it would seem unfair (particularly on public servers in Sector X, where PvP is always on) to allow players to break the game (or give trolls tools to troll other players). So what do you think?
I'd LOVE this to be added, I want my Rapid Fire Blue Plasma Assault Rifle made of Impervium with flashy blue lights
I feel that this is needed due to how underpowered the guns are, and that the Steel or Titanium Bow (despite the Titanium variant being unimplemented) are the strongest ranged weapons craftable and they become obsolete at sector X
Pls. Yes pls. But lets expand upon this a bit. The items that you get upon disassembly would be: The Barrel (determines damage per shot) The Stock (determines rate of fire) The Cartridge (determines what is fired, plasma shots, shutgun fire, etc) Crafting a gun would require one and only one of each EDIT: The energy cost would be randmoly chosen from a range based on the items final DPS (which is [rate of fire] * [damage per shot])
It sounds interesting but, I think the system could be easily abused because of the simple 're-creation' of the gun if it doesn't work. There should be a price if you are going to disassemble a gun or at least some required expensive tools. But, it is overall a really cool idea. One other thing, if the cost idea doesn't get implemented, customized guns should have their effects permanent as a balancing factor. Cool thinking though. c:
How would you determine dps? Would it be that each gun component has a "score" and you add up all X component "scores" to get the final dps? The "stats" on guns are: 1) Damage per shot 2) Fire rate 3) Energy Use per shot 4) Ammo This is a neat idea, but could result in a boatload of new items being added... For example, what if you disassemble a rifle. Now you get 3-4 parts. Can you assemble those rifle parts with the parts from a shotgun? Or a grenade launcher? If you assemble enough strange things, can you get the Chicken Gun from Dungeon Siege? If you can only assemble rifle parts with rifle parts, then I hope you have your entire ship filled with laboratory lockers, because you're going to need the space (either holding all the guns, or holding all the parts). Would you rather be able to create weapons from "scratch" or modify existing weapons, at the cost of a disassembled part? For example, if you have a grenade launcher that shoots pigs, but you want it to shoot cows, you can disassemble a cowlauncher and place that ammo part into the piglauncher, resulting in a cowlauncher with the stats from the desired gun. Maybe something like that?
it would be nice if you can dismantle found guns and use their "stats" for new guns. also graphical possibilities to choose the gusn appearance, right nowm guns have many different appearances and sometimes I would like stats X with look Y. or make all the stats the gun has random. So you chose building a rocket alucnher and one of the existing rocket launchers is chosen random. it would finally help to counter the plentiness in this game by giving you a reason to get ore and build something over and over again.
wow, completely forgot about the energy cost. Amended my post for it. Also it turns out there is already a thread to this affect right nyah http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/weapon-customization.244/
I was thinking of this too. I think, to offset the fact that this would completely invalidate finding random weapons (not that that is really a terrible thing), the end cost should be rather high, or you should be able to make as many guns as you want, but only with the parameters privy to the weapons you've sacrificed by breaking them down. Now, mind you, that would still possibly give you all the best parts of a shotgun and RPG in a sweet little marriage of destruction, but there would still be a good bit of footwork on your part, and luck.
My main intention is to allow player to not be burdened with weapons that are just a waste of energy, where it just fills up a space where a melee weapon would just the trick but better.
Understandable. Supposing all my crap isn't wiped due to current events, I've got a handful of useless guns, a low powered but fun energy shotgun that is great for pest control on my Threat 1 home planet, and I just got a USCM autorifle that is my new room clearer. But it took a while to get to that, and the road was paved with useless guns between. However, it would be nice to grab some of the projectile types and mod them to some of the things I've found since then. Flame throwers may be sort of useless in combat, but they're great for picking up on minerals in the earth.
Yes, there should be now Legendary parts you can find in High-Tech chests that instantly create Dubstep effects or make hostiles docile/brainwashed, a few ideas are as follows: Point of View (as suggested by Radiated Ronin) - Brainwashes hit enemies to either be completely docile or attack other enemies Dubstep (as suggested by Radiated Ronin) - Plays a random Dubstep song while firing a continuous stream of energy, enemies explode in GIANT BASS EXPLOSIONS when killed Widowmaker - Refunds energy per pellet, automatically adds a shotgun effect to the weapon Glutton for Punishment - You gain pixels (1-10% of damage done) according to the damage done upon the killing shot Riot Shield - Weapon automatically becomes two handed, alt-click puts up a powerful shield that can block incoming attacks like a normal shield Singularity - Weapon automatically becomes a grenade/rocket launcher, shots pull nearby enemies towards the projectile until it collides with an enemy/surface False Swipe - Weapon will leave the creature a 1 HP, useful for capturing a creature Hellfire - Each shot instantly burns the target, 10 shots on burning targets will apply the melting effect, will not melt player characters (anti-trolling measure) If you have any other ideas fell free to post them here
Hmm... Gravity Gun - Moving movement for matter that matters Cold Day In Hell - Uses snow and magmastone blocks as ammunition, primary and alternate fire respectively. Partay! - Shotgun that fires a slow moving confetti chaff that shreds anything that moves through it. Small Hardon Collider - variation on the Gravity Gun that accelerates entities away from you, where damage is dealt on impact with the environment Doom Dice - Weapon that deals unpredictable ranges of damage, from minuscule to almighty Orbital Friendship Cannon - RPG that calls down explosive hell from above. Only useful on the surface. SMH - Causes lower life forms to turn on eachother. ...Just to name a few off the top of my head
