Thats unfortunate, now that you mention it it would be similar to the domed Apex Lab that still lets rain in.
One would think they should render half the screen outwards in all directions for blocks too, since you can fire off screen and kill something :lickitung:

Has anyone tried the Resonance Generator (or was it Reference Field Generator?) Those things are used in USCM prisons, Apex Science dungeons, and Hyotl underwater cities, and protect blocks inside their influence.

Do they exist anymore? I haven't delved into the game files to see, and I have yet to see one again in game.

I know they're still in the files, because there's one in EVERY USCM Prison and Hylotl Ocean City. EVERY.

Back in the day (pre 1.0,) you could find them under the Wired section of the Pixel Printer, but you like had to be in admin mode to craft it (like with the snow poffs, the capsules, assorted breakables, Ancient items and blocks, and other items that cannot be dropped but can be scanned.) I recall being able to still craft them today, but I never did any testing on how they work.

The item in question is filed under the name
    Human Shield Generator
    on Starbounder.

strange is the USCM prisons are not protected but the hyotl cities are.

however it doesnt help to have these even if they work, as the metor strikes appear ontop of you screen and they would mostlikely still AoE kill inhabitants - especially the big boys. (but ok they respawn).

I spawned it as an admin the other day and tried it. It doesn't protect any blocks. I tried connecting it to a switch and turning it on and still nothing. Fun fact though it cannot be destroyed. I actually had to load a backup save file to get rid of it. Maybe if I put it on a platform and destroyed the platform it could have been destroyed that way but I put it on the floor of my ship.
There is another way to protect your base though, one of the people I am subscribed to on youtube just put this up:

You know the Ruin door? Well get close to the bottom of that area and there are brain blocks. Apparently they take like 2 and a half minutes to mine with a fully upgraded mm. This guy suggests bringing a buddy.
In the comments someone mentioned big meteors and if the brain blocks would protect from that too. They protect against small meteors fine, but he never showed large ones in the video hitting the brain blocks. I think it would work, you would just have to have a larger gap between the brain blocks and your base for it to work. Anyways check out the video it will explain it.
