Its the Tentacles. I don't know if the Agarans are minions of them or if they really are peaceful but that the shadow of earth has swallowed them into its darkness, but the Tentacles are definitely behind this. Reading the march news article (click the link) the Humans say "It's just like what happened on Earth, but the Hylotl... it...it..." aaaand queue mystery roar. Then come the pods, then he also says "The Agarans haven't been attacking the Florans, they've..."
I recall an earlier quote (Akado "Minor point of contention, my Floran has also seen three times where these smelly things have taken Floran prisoners...") plus a picture generously offered by Shaadaris, where-in a Floran is again prisoner. Looking back at the problem with those nasty little "Pods", you think of the Floran respawn animation. There is also a wallpaper on the same article as above, the march wallpaper, that features two Apex scientists in a laboratory shying away from some kind of green, tentacled monstrosity. Furthermore, the codex based on the Tentacomet boss states that all samples sent to him are said to have gone missing. My own experiences in Starbound, plus that of many others here, shed even more light on the subject. If you take my word for truth, I recall seeing a building filled with Agarans and the same strange tentacled abominations as those Apex scientists. From other users, Agarans surrounding a pool of lava for some reason, only to discover it was not lava but actually very similar to the pink water on Tentacle Biome Worlds, Agarans saying "Bizzara No Kluex", torture devices, etc. This and many more could mean many things, but I give you the theory that the Agarans, controlled by the Tentacles, are somehow using Floran biomass or at least their birth pods to perform something horrifying, 'Indoctrinating, Corrupting, Culling, Warping, Infecting, possessing' whatever word you want to use, capturing individual races and taking control of them for use in their insidious goal to pollute the turn the universe into absolute madness!!!
In a way that seems a little less like it belongs in the Asylum, perhaps there is something more Malevolent at work here than we had imagined. After all, there is always a bit of dark between the light of stars.

The only other thing I have to say is strange mushrooms seems to be a recurring thing in sandboxes like this. Mooshrooms for example, and the Terraria mushrooms people. Interesting indeed...

Floran apologizes to anyone wishing to study these creatures. I've found a whole planet teeming with them. Though they were friendly enough, I was not aware of their existence and had to see if they would taste very well over a spit. Unfortunately they weren't, and they proceeded to stab me so I had to destroy them all and destroyed most of their homes in the process. If I had known they were being studied I might've brought a camera before I tore them to shreds. While I was mining on the planet I found a few more and promptly destroyed them, but there were most likely more though I do not remember the coordinates. I'll let you know if I can find some more. For now be sure that even underground you are not safe, they colonize below as well, though I only found a couple houses down there...

So clearly the Florans are tormenting the Hylotl once again by teaming up with the Agarans to turn them into giant tentacle monsters! It was so obvious all along!

So I found a planet where the agarans seem to be living at peace with the apex. Though they did throw a hissy fit whenever any birds happened to fly by. When I went to ask the Apex about the agarans they acted as if they didn't even exist. The only one who would acknowledge their existence was locked in a cell, and a moment later they were silenced by the guard. I also found an agaran guarding a floran statue and somewhere along the lines I picked up an agaran head. Perhaps this will be useful for diplomatic purposes?

First three are the first contact I had while looking for them, they were living in a little bulb house of some sort. The fourth to sixth pictures are the second structure they were guarding. Notice in the sixth a stray apex has wandered over and while the ape is oblivious the guard in front of him is watching him with weapon drawn. Seventh picture is the first (there were many) building I found in the apex settlement just east of the second agaran guardpost, and the eighth is the poor apex citizen locked in a cell. The guard wouldn't even tell me why she was in there. Ninth is the lone agaran protecting the floran statue, and the tenth is me trying to show the head I found (the description got cut off when I took the photo oops).

(also if you're wondering yes the apex girl was locked in the cell when I found her and she made no effort to get out she just paced the cell even though technically the door wasn't locked, and I'm not using any mods~)

Don't be silly, you can't destroy a planet with nuclear weapons....

It might take several thousand years for radiation levels to come back down to an acceptable level but; where is your commitment to going home?

If we use both, we can get thousands of mushroom corpses and a giant radiated ravaging tentacle monster! It's a win-win!

Perhaps they've developed some form of serum to make them grow into uncontrollable-rage-hulk monsters, like the unknown creature seen in the recording.

    Well crap.
I have no justifications for Agarans now. Guess we can't just talk.

Break out the "Baboom", I'm going ape.

What if..the Agarans have some sort of evolutionary stages...and the ones we have seen are only the first stage of the Agaran life cycle

That actually could be right, and these, these hulking behemoths, they're the final stage....

If this is true we could be looking at a full scale galactic war.

We've seen what we believe is the result of Agarans infecting other lifeforms, but what if they're not limited to biomass? What if they're capable of infecting Glitch, Mechs and even the very basis of our lifestyle, our ships!

Wistful. From this day forth, I vow never to destroy an Agaran Village again, but the torturers must be destroyed. Unsure. I will resume eradication of all Agarans when other information is released regarding the true nature of the villages, if they are evil.

"Got an appearance from Agaran guards and a small... er- Temple? .. There appear to be cages... yes, cages... a bookcase of sorts, they seem to know how to read.. or not. They tried to converse with me, but i could not understand their tongue... I proceed with caution... my located planet is Alpha HR 3817 Dra 40 VIII d... My colony is in the same planetary cluster. I'll keep a close watch on this, this planet they're on i have yet to fully explore.. This is Captain Pollenborn, log 334.."

There is two ways to deal with a problem :
    1: Try to solve it.
2 : Destroy the cause of the problem.

And since these shrooms don't look like friendly guys, i'm pretty sure you guys should start buying flamethrowers, plants burn quite well, and what is more comforting than a bonefire in the wild ?

If this is true its more the reason why we shouldn't attack them in massive force, it would make a ground assault much more dangerous and i have stated many times why it is not a good idea to arm ships with super weapons. We know that the agarans themselves cannot leave planets, its only the spores, so if we quarantine the planets in a dome, so that we can study them as previously suggested, the agarans wouldn't notice for the same reason we cant look up and see space(atmosphere), it is impossible to eradicate them all, there are a lot more of them than us and they will spread faster than we can destroy them, attacking them would waste resources and would only further provoke them.
