I've noticed that they drop their helmetss on death.
Perhapsss a sub-culture of Floransss?

 

I was waiting for someone to make that reference, lol.
Un/fortunately they seem to have lost their one hit swing abilities (seriously, I have been killed by one swing, even in full black iron +5)

On-topic, my take on the whole "keep florans near lava" is to dehydrate them so that they get weak enough to easily infect them. Another benefit is that their pores most likely open up more as their tissue dries up, making it possible (if the agaran spores are larger than the pores diameter in a hydrated state) or easier for spores to gain access to soft tissues/nerves.
They would however, not want the floran to die of dehydration (or maybe they do?), so the drysap dispensers most likely supply the floran with enough drysap to survive, but still suffer from the effects of lack of water.
But what about the "cauldrons" filled with water? Perhaps, once the floran is infected (agaran might have a way to "sense" if their victim has succumbed to their spores) they place it in the water to re-hydrate them quickly, before the spores die, or fail to rake root due to the florans dehydrated state.
I have no clue about the lava-filled cauldrons, perhaps it is used to dispose of florans who either managed to fight off the infection, were immune (in real life, a mutation of a certain gene can prevent you from getting HIV at all, there might be a similar thing with florans), or didn't get re-hydrated quick enough for the spores to take root proper.

Just my theories. We can't know for certain until more is known.

 

Actually, One time I was near one of those lava cauldrons, only It was full of water instead with lava and there was a freed Floran swimming with some Agarans and said that she was happy. Interesting...

 

if you read the two lines above what you quoted, I stated my theories on the water filled cauldrons. most likely the floran was happy she was finally getting water, and unaware of her being infected with agaran spores.

 

They seem good to me, save a Agaran and help control the Floran population.

 

What if drysap was actually taken from an Agaran-infected tree?
If the cap of a giant mushroom was missing, and the stem was hardened (which seems plausible considering it's an alien mushroom),
a giant mushroom could pass for a tree with white and hardened (bone-like) bark.

 

Yeah, I guess so.

 

There are many great theories here, and it is very pleasing to see that extermination is not the first reaction to these mushroom people! Agaran Preserve Initiative 4eva!

Made a complete wipe of my universe and characters to start all over

That must mean that veran was right! Or maybe, the agaran take sap from the FLORAN for their own nefarious purposes! ?

 

Disgust. Overly simplistic. Mushroom roots can spread far underground, and new stalks may grow outside of your dome.
Religious hatred. The Agarans do not seem to embrace technology and call us Glitch "clankbeasts", unlike Florans who assimilate tech at astonishing speed and show great appreciation for the Glitch.
Fervor. It is clear which of the two races the Machine God favors. We Glitch, as the true chosen of the Machine God should wage a crusade of extermination upon the Agarans to protect the Florans.
Reverent. All hail the Machine God.

Here is my contribution to the research, Dror found this lone Agaran, near a strange heat source. Searching around made the Agaran angry, and it attacked Dror, who took care of it.
The Agaran seemed to have a Floran prisoner, which was peaceful upon being released.

 

i think the tree they're referring to is literally the bone tree, it says somewhere that it was in a desert, (where you frequently find bone trees) also mushroom biomes don't grow in deserts.
