Wow, how did I not see that, or research it for that matter I play a Floran! I let this false "kindness" blind me to the Agaran's true intention... I apologize for my ranty post above. And to think, I nearly made a mushroom-style house to live in!

 

problem solved = let the agarans infect the florans, florans become extinct because of lack of offspring, with no more florans to infect the agarans will die out for the same reason. ''kill two birds with one stone'' so to speak and the best part is that all we have to do is sit back and relax

 

Okay, I don't know if this has been said yet, but it really looks like they are trying to grow the Floren in that picture.

 

The Agaran armour is not their own... no doubt about it, they wear Floran armour. Also they have the same architectural style as the Florans.
This likely is because
1) The Agaran are, in fact, Florans wearing mushroom masks (perhaps a separated tribe, weird cannibalistic religion...)
2) The Agaran are pirates who prefer picking on Florans (And have thus gathered a large collection of Floran armour)
3) The Agaran buy Floran armour from Florans, or someone else maybe (likely on the black market...)
4) The Agaran are unable to develop their own technology and prefer Floran armour to any other race's armour
5) The Agaran originated from Florans somehow and so have inherited their culture
6) The Agaran are Floran bandits/outlaws that don't want to shame their species name throughout the galaxy.

Theory 1 and 6 are supported by the fact that you can get Agaran masks from the species, occasionally. Also what little Agaran skin is shown, definitely contains the same leafy shape and texture as the Floran's skin.

 

I don't think Its GreenFinger, but their origin is definitely Floran...
GreenFinger is too civilized, I think, to have created these... unless it was an accident.

This. Blasbo Babbins is disappointed in the developer for siding with egocentric people.
Also note that the pod objects used in the "in-game image" up there are not currently in the stable version of Starbound.

So are you adding these to the unstable version (later stable) and turning Agarans into villains, or is this just a "someone found this thing that i drew ingame and I didn't put it there"?

Greenfinger has long tampered with Floran genetics, as revealed by numerous codex entries (some of the biggest kickers are unused).
He has had troubles with such things before. The Tentacle Comets are related to his work somehow.

The behavior is unlikely to be placeholder, given that there are plenty of NPCs ingame that are hostile by default. And they wouldn't sell you guns. On the other hand, their equipment may be, given that their melee weapon is a Human Tier 1 broadsword that doesn't scale its power to match the difficulty of the planet as most NPC weapons do.

Blasbo Babbins hopes this isn't one of those situations where the lore follows the majority of player comments, as many players (perhaps too many) are the sort that go berserk at anything and want to smash everything. The levels of exaggeration and hyperbole in this thread are quite problematic.

 

O, what mysterious developments result from the update button! Chucklefish, reveal these mushrooms' dark secrets (and i shall not kill any of them until they go hostile on me...we'll see.)

Actually, my Glitch has a slight dislike of organics. Meaning he can control himself so he doesn't kill them on sight.
