That singing, though...

Lol I honestly wish this wasn't in the game.

 

Hopefully we can get a similar pitch to the male vocals for hip-hop styled tracks. I'd like to make something that sounds like Giga Macho Records from Persona 2: Innocent Sin. I listened to some Ashley records from Warioware DIY, and it made me think it would've been possible in that game at least...




Also relevant- Little Big Planet 2 had a seperate beat-boxing track for it's music sequencers, so that'd be cool in Starbound...

The personality of the game is totally changed by the voices. I hate it. The masculinity of the men, the femininity of the women, the uniqueness of each race possibly, or how we envisioned the character or their voice is smashed because they all have the sound of a 3 year old anime character. No no no.

 

This. I wish they wouldn't have added this. I hope to God that for some reason, it doesn't make it into the game... ever.

 

You know that it is a work in progress and subject to changes, right? And probably there will be different voices for each race, hopefully.
In fact it would be nice if they added a voice selector in the character creation screen. That'd be pretty neat.

 

I shall say this once, If there is not a limit to how high or low the pitch can be in ABC notation based on what voice you select i shall face-desk so hard my desk will crack. Also to clarify i shall give a simple mathematical "equation" to help explain. CharSelectOpt=1 then x=1 x+5=high while x-5=low. or CharSelectOpt=-3 then x=-3 so x+5=high while x-5=low. On a side note i forgot that this would set a 1-10 pitch scale that the ABC notation Refers to for your "voice".

 

Made it even better that is was a floran signing. All I can think of is the singing sunflower from plants vs zombies.

 

System update: incredibly high-pitched voice modulators uploaded successfully. Currently practicing with fleshling genre "K-Pop". Will be broadcast over deathcamp speaker system. Estimated productivity increase: >120%.

Even if it is, you don't have to use it, so there's no need to make a hissy about it.

edit: My bad, didn't see lawls post. He usually has his own opinion about most things though to be fair.

 

The singing is great, it reminds me of when characters would sing in SNES/PS1 games. It's great and I love it.

 

It's not meant to be directed at anyone in particular. It was an attempt at a humorous jab at the (admittedly few) comments along the lines of: "Singing in Starbound?! You guys ruined the ENTIRE experience of the game!! Even the ones that don't revolve around music or singing in any respect!!!! "
It applies to other aspects, too, though. I think it's silly to be hating on the game because there's an optional feature that, mind you, never needs to be witnessed in your game. Ever.
That's just my opinion, though..

 

A feature that's also a work in progress and will most probably be polished and get some options added so almost everyone can enjoy it.
