I've always been the kind of person who isn't fond of pastel colours, Minecraft's default drives me nuts. I'm not sure if anyone's ever really brought this up, and it might be a lot harder to do it for this game than Minecraft, since Starbound has far more items than Mincraft and maybe more than Terraria. Would you like to see texture packs or even alternate official textures for things, or do you think that Starbound would work better without that option?

People have spoken about texture packs a lot in the past.

It's not impossible at all, just time consuming so I am sure once the game is in a later stage we might see some individuals trying their hand at it.

Since right now the game is in early stages, and there is stuff constantly being added; at the moment it would be tedious to keep up. i can probably see something like this when release comes for sure. Before release I would say if we did see it those must be some patient and lucky souls. :)

"No, it looks fine as it is" is an absurd reason to interfere with possibility and variety when it doesn't have to affect you in any way.

    Just saying.

I'd be more than happy to see texture packs and might even get involved in them myself at some point if I see one I like down the road. I'd be all over a good horror texture pack. I already use planetary mods to make eerie biomes and a lighting mod to further up the atmosphere. If there were texture packs that could also add to that, that'd be nice. Though ultimately I just like anything that could lead to horror mods  Starbound feels like a good platform within which a pixel horror sub-game might be built...

Naw, I totally get what you mean, I just put that option there for the people who think texture packs aren't necessary. I've heard countless times in my Minecraft playtime from people that texture packs are a waste of time and effort and that "default is the only way it should be played". Also I didn't want to leave people with just a "Yes" and "It would be too hard or impossible.

But for my first thread, I'm glad to have gotten responses, it means I didn't fail miserably. for once...

My statement was more directed in a general manner at those who actually think that way, both on this matter and similar issues, not against you for including the option~
I don't exactly have anything against them for their way of thinking, their reasoning just alludes me and strikes me as remarkably self centered.

Ah, my bad. Just woke up and can't think 100% clearly. But I agree with your points.

I say yes it'd be cool, but texture packs would be...harder...considering that everything is pixels. Though I think most of the stuff in game is just resized/recolored pieces as part of a pool so maybe not too hard. Generally speaking though it'd be rough.

Also I never realized Terraria only takes up 63 MB while starbound takes up like 1260 mb holy crap. Man that really brings perspective to things.

I'm not sure how many items Starbound has compared to Terraria, but even if it has less now, I don't see that lasting long when Starbound starts getting updates again, if not even by this next update. It would also be pretty hard to do because of all the randomly generated monsters.

It would be neat to have some texture packs. I would, however, like to see some individual item/block tps rather than JUST universal tps.

That is to say that maybe person A has a tp for all dirt types, and person B has a tp for all stone types. Etc. Truly, its up to the mods and devs though.

It's possible. There's someone on the forums somewhere already doing it. It just takes infinitely longer to make than a Minecraft texture pack.

Actually, that's a pretty smart way it could be done. Or perhaps (And I'm so sorry for bring up Minecraft again, it's just the only game off the top of my head with Texturepack support) there could be something like the Painterly pack, where one could pick and choose out of say, 5 different options for one texture. I think the community could make this work and the results would be pretty cool.

It could be done either through groupings or through blocks.

If a system was developed to allow players to view-
    +The TP creator
    +The texture(s) itself
    +What block(s) will be changed
-in game, then it would make texture packs so much more viable.

I envision there being three ways to apply a texture pack.
    1. The player simple selects a full tp which will replace every item/block in the game with the relevant re-textured item/block.
    2. The player selects a block pack, which changes a handful of block or item textures, but not the entirety of the games textures.
    3. The player individually selects textures.
