Testing Facility Robot Boss: how did you even?

i ask: how did you even? in two ways to seperate parties.

to players who have beat this boss: How did you even? as in how did you not get one-shotted, or if you were getting one shotted how did you cheat the boss?

to anyone at chucklefish who had anything to do with making this boss, saw this boss, or could have in any way effected the final product that is this boss: how did you even? as in how did you not realize how absolutely overpowered and aggravating this boss is.

there's allot of dumb shit in this update, some improvements, though id probably say the gameplay got worse overall. this boss takes the cake. not just for things that got worse with this update, but for the most broken boss in any game iv'e ever played. I can't wrap my head around the reasoning for green-lighting this update and specifically this boss.

some other bullshit: solar systems are boring and arbitrary. half the switches/consoles became un-wireable. just about every enemy is too strong. absurdly arbitrary planetary hazards(really... remove temperature? not that it ever functioned in the first place but why not just actually make it fucking function, how about add a geiger counter and background radiation levels, nobody wants/likes this "video gamey" way of implementing hazards).

I honestly don't know what happened over there in the studio but you are moving the game in the wrong direction.

I guess we just sit around and wait for Sean Murray to show you how it's done with No Man's Sky (is that game like a curse word here? seeing as how it's kinda gonna kill this one)

Dash and double jump for dodging and a high DPS two hander sword for blocking and destroying rockets as they were fired. It's really not that hard.

well i didn't realise you could destroy the missles, tried it, works until he does overload and then that kills you. thanx for the pro-tip tho

that's also ignoring the problem. forcing us to do these lame quests is the core of the problem. i wouldn't care about this stupid boss if i didn't have to fight him.

I loooove when people use the word salty to describe anyone critical of the game they are currently fanboying for.

You can cheese it, by standing on the plate outside the door. And fire at him, back up, it'll close the door, etc. Repeat. Like I said, its cheesing it. xD Harshly. But Yeah, You'll want a shield, 2 handed sword, and maybe a machine pistol.

Step 1) Have a full set of good armor and weapons.
Step 2) Bring some good food, and about 10-20 medpacks along with 10-20 stimpacks (yes, they all stack).

You are now ready to tackle the boss.

    Tips for fighting:
-Shoot the missiles, failing that hang out near the wall when he is firing them, and dodge so that they hit the wall, the missiles have OP tracking so if you don't make them 'splode, they gon' getcha!
-When he is doing the flamethrower, if you have good health you can run through (so that you are inside him) and he can't really hit you, get some free whacks in.
-When he is doing the electric spray thing, hide in a corner and jump when you see a ball coming straight at you.

Once I figure him out, I beat him first try. Having good equipment is key though.

PS: Cheesing him was apparently patched, the doors are ontop of the arena now and there are two of them (the lower opens when you step on it, and the top one starts to close). Keep in mind that this is just what I read on reddit, which is hardly a credible source, so I could be wrong.

thanks for the tips, this sounds doable, im currently stuck on him going overload, kills me every time because my two handed axe can't block.

that doesn't help the overall gameplay though, i shouldn't have to worry about any of that bullshit because i shouldn't be forced to fight this absurd boss. he kills me in one hit with pretty much anything and that in itself is enough to make me say this update has ruined the game for me. (that and all my mods are gone)

By this i mean the fact that i have to hunt for better equipment, deal with OP mechanics and fight bosses as a whole is completely opposite of why i was playing this game.

[DOUBLEPOST=1422649082][/DOUBLEPOST]im going to try him one more time and then i'm done with this game for a while which is saying allot since iv'e been playing it almost nonstop for months. probably wont play until mods come back, which is fucked up in itself since i shouldn't need mods for the game to have enough content to be playable.

all of these changes are in such a mediocre, "seen it before" direction. hopefully No Man's Sky will give me a game actually worth playing sometime this year.

and yeah a missile hit me between attacks. i would say i need more attack speed and go find a weapon with that but if i wanted to do that i would go play league of legends or WoW or something.

Thanks for Un-making one of my favorite games chucklefish, i can't say a developer has ever fucked me that hard before.

Keep in mind, a full set of good armor doesn't mean something like Rubium, you'll get flattened because of how little armor it provides. Aegisalt can make it so you only lose 90% health on that punch attack, Rubium is a one-shot, but the stuff from the Separator table? Yeah, low energy and energy regen, but you can handle his attacks much more easily. You won't get many shots with a shotgun to destroy his missiles, but you can certainly have extra breathing room due to all the extra armor.

You're not supposed to get hit by that punch to begin with. It's like dodging a bull so that it rams the wall and stuns itself

Pffft, I parry the first go, take the hit from the second and dash up and hit him while he's stunned. Parrying when he's still doing it just one punch at a time works too. Yeah sure the bull hits me and knocks me up into the air on the second time, but I always land on my feet and shove a good, hard hammerblow right up his stunned backside.

Or just jump over him both times.

  12. Darklight

    Darklight Oxygen Tank

Fair enough. I always doublejump over those attacks since it doesn't eat up energy out of all the techs and if it looks like I might miss the jump I just dash behind him before dashing back towards his staggered body to slice him up a couple of times before he recovers. Also rocketlaunchers work nicely too

  13. Kiingy

    Kiingy Phantasmal Quasar

I was able to defeat him just using crafted gear, his pattern is extremely predictable.

When he charges run to the opposite side of the room, he'll use the flamethrower once he rocovers but it'll end before he has time to get in range after waddling across the room.

Use a crafted rifle to destroy the missiles.

When he does overload stand in the corner and jump to avoid the blasts, you can block with a shield while jumping to deal with any that may hit you.

If you're ranged you can stand at either side of the room the entire fight switching as needed, otherwise if you're melee dash in to get a few hits in when you can or wait till he's stunned after a charge.

Yea, to be honest the boss isent much of a challenge if you just use the basic energy dash and double jump (forgot what its called). Just shot the missiles down, avoid the flamethrower, duck down in a corner and shot ranged at him while he overloads, dodge the raming and stab him in the back while stunned, repeat.

shields, shields and one handed weapons is one of the best combinations in the game (with enough practice)

Tangentially related, maybe Chucklefish could look into their mission instance code? I died to the boss the first time because I was expecting him to be about as difficult as the preceding bosses (i.e, manageable) and I was ill-prepared for the festival of absurdity that is the Testing Facility Robot, and I'm on normal difficulty so the resources I was carrying flew out of my pockets when I died. I figured I'd go back and get them, but they weren't there when I had S.A.I.L. send me back.

I never died on any other boss attempts, ssso maybe it happens on all missions - which, if it does, that's still pretty unreasonable and it shouldn't happen, because that's completely inconsistent with the way it functions everywhere else in the game. :)

Anyway. While I did beat the boss, I didn't really have any fun while doing so.

Maybe look at the tuning of the difficulty curve you want, Chucks? Because it kind of takes a huge jump up with this boss. Getting one-, two-, and/or-three-shot while wearing the armour you're supposed to be in for the mission in question is pretty lousy and astronomically different than its predecessors, and the boss fight isn't cool enough to warrant an even-more-extreme-than-Dark-Souls lack of a margin for error.

I beat it with shields, dodging, resource loss-fuelled hatred, and a shotgun I was lucky enough to find. I'm pretty sure I would have had even less fun with it if I hadn't had the screen-filling shotgun in question.

Oh, and the complete lack of telegraphing for the fact that the boss double-dashes below 50%? That's awful. At least make him flash red or something. The fact that he does it doesn't count as telegraphing.

get the purple armor, and a shield - learn to perfect block and this boss is super easy. 85% skill i'd say - if you are realy good ... you dont need armor at all

tip: grapling hook at the ceiling for flamethrower phase

i think the party mission was harder : /

they were not better in the before the patch ... but there is a long way to go .... your right

if a block is unbreakable (in missions or locked-mini-dungeons, you can't wire the block ... seems legit

    wut?

i think planet hazards are now nearly perfekt.
you need a upgrade to your armor to survive at the planet. If you think about a way to lead the player in through the game (progress) this is totally fine. your second planet should not be a radioactive, acid ocean, acid rain planet.

    i dont think so

I used two aegisalt pistols, rubium gear, a violum broadsword, stimpacks, a grappling hook, and healing water bottles.

Rubium gear and aegisalt pistols gets you to have maximum ranged DPS for an extended period of time.
Broadsword is here to intercept the incoming missiles.
When he does his massive static discharge, get to the left corner and crouch, you can fire your guns at this time.
Should you have trouble managing your energy, the hook is here to help you avoid the flamethrower attacks and the furious charge.

I beat it using the Cardinal's Chalcedony staff and the Rubium armor. This staff makes a gem which deals out high damage. Spawn the gem at the head of the mech and it will also blow up the missiles. When the mech rises into the air, spawn another gem on it. I recommend taking 1 or 2 shields with you to supplement your defense. It took me 4 or 5 tries to beat the mech this way.
