I want a Magma Worm (risk of rain) boss in Starbound. Is like the Terraria worms, but with fire. And they'd be huge (compared to the size of the characters in Risk of Rain, they're freaking massive!)

All it means is that two games that are similar to Starbound are putting their games together for an update to promote the lesser known game, that is all there is.
    Starbound shouldn't be threatened by those two games, the games are far different;

    Terraria
A game where you spawn, chop trees, make a pickaxe and explore the vast world, have fun making nice defensive structures and houses while fighting off impressive new enemies that seem to get more fun the more times you kill them, and eventually you have to fight Eye of Cthulhu and other bosses, then the Eater of Worlds to progress.
Then you fight the Wall of Flesh, and once that wall is knocked over, the massive burst of content behind it just falls on you and makes the world so much more challenging and fun, while also giving lots more gear to have fun with and reshape the land as you see fit.
Truck load of fun, vanity, but mostly combat orientated with lots of different enemy AI and types, plus NPCs move in and sell you things after you achieve something.
Then there is the fun of choosing what type of playstyle you want, Swordsman, Mage or Archer?

But i will admit, Terraria gets boring after you fight the Frost Moon and get endgame gear, all that is left to do is collect every item and challenge yourself further, or try some of the community made mods or texture packs.

    Starbound
A game where you spawn, also chop trees, or alternatively explore until you find a chest with a Stone Pickaxe as loot you explore your home planet for resources, and then fuel up your ship while completing various quests and reading lore books, and eventually you get higher tier pickaxes, better guns and armor, and even more awesome blocks for building...
Each time you craft a boss spawner and beat the boss, a load of new stuff is added to your crafting after you make a Starmap with the remains of the boss, which means you can make better bases and gear to survive even moons or cold planets.
Starbound is a great game, while still in Beta, it has lots of content and vanity, a vast amount of different environments and planets, lots of building too!
There is also lots of Community content and a truckload of mods and music you can play on your own instruments ingame!

Starbound can't last with its fun forever, i do enjoy the game, but once you reach Impervium racial armor, the game gets a tad dull since there is no progression to come, but there is a huge balance update coming in soon to fix this!

All in all, i like both games, but Terraria no longer appeals to me as i played it mostly for building, Starbound in total is more fun for me, but i still play Terraria occasionally for the fun of it, i recommend you all try Terraria if you have spare money laying around.

Exactly; After you have all the Frost moon and Pumpkin Moon gear in Terraria; It get s very dull and boring.
Starbound, Same thing after you have Impervium.

    But, They're both great games!
EoS, Terraria and Starbound are entirely different games.
Each are fun in a majority of different ways.

The following is just my opinion. Don't get butt devastated if I sound off-putting.

Terraria is VERY dated. The graphics are lackluster now. As a good post from 4chan once said, "Games like Morrowind age well, but flavor-of-the-month indie games age poorly." Terraria is a good example. The game's painful to look at now. It's still got its fun charms, but it's just not a good looking game anymore. It's like playing Hello Kitty in a World of Warcraft convention.

Edge of Space looks fun, but it's made in the Unity Engine; that doesn't translate well to 2D platforming at all. I like the idea that they're NOT conforming to casual players, as they've got tons of technical stuff to keep you working and not being carried by the developer, but it's just not a good looking game because of how the engine works. I do want to try this game out, but I'm done shelling money out for unfinished products.

Starbound, while using pixel art, doesn't capture the feeling that old pixel games did back when games were only pixels, such as Metal Slug and Contra, but it's got its own charm. Not using a free engine, not using the same style as everyone else, and not relying on cheap homages/crossovers to other games gives it a good enough edge. While I said I was done shelling money for unfinished work, I'm content with the game currently because it's still enjoyable. Plus, the other two don't have the perk of player modding; I can fix what I don't like, but not make my own game in the process.

For all I care, I wouldn't pick EoS up even if it had a partnership with Toei, Blizzard Entertainment, or even Nintendo. Maybe if they did Nintendo, but still. Starbound wins in my book because it's not reliant on advertising an unrelated game just to get some spotlight. I do wish that the devs would stop catering to casual players and give us some difficulty sooner than later, but still.

When I first heard of EoS and Starbound, the person who informed me said that 2 people who worked on Terraria split off and were essentially making their own space-style version similar to Terraria.. Tiy going to Starbound and... someone else doing EoS. Like rock bands, members tend to have "artistic differences" over time (or ego clashing) and that's one of the reasons they split up, but other than that, there isn't always bad blood. So, I was assuming that these two were just going to have some healthy competition amongst each other, and it really was the consumer that would end up formulating some sort of battle between the 2 games, since that's what we consumers like to do. After reading the first page of this thread recently (didn't know this thread existed at all until it was necro'd) and seeing Tiy and Mollygos having acknowledged it as they did, I guess it's just not the case. Not like it matters.

But then again, the public only gets to know what they "need to know". Seems there was no connection between the two games in any way originally?

Edge of Space has huge potential, and in my opinion, is the most different of the 3(Terraria, EoS, Starbound) and is definitely a lot more innovative with its ideas compared to Starbound. The developer of Starbound worked with Terraria and it clearly shows, the art style, 5 different metal pickaxe tiers, etc is directly from Terraria while EoS developers never worked on Terraria as far as i know so they get to look at the genre with a different perspective. The developers of EoS and Terraria are good friends, that's why there's a crossover. Anyway, my personal preference is Edge of Space, Starbound as of right now is pretty shallow yea it has more content but the core gameplay is lacking.

Personally the art style is too rough and unpolished for me, other than that it looks the same.

Also is SOL even in alpha or beta yet?

  15. I agree with @cyberspyXD , It feels like there's no real unifying style in Edge of Space. I'm a big aesthetics person when it comes to 2d games, and it's really important in a 2d environment. In EoS it kind of looks like there are a bunch of great art ideas that have been executed in different sprite styles that aren't unified and clash with each other.

Edge of Space now with official Terrraria content on Steam.

  17. Signs of Life at this moment is being highest rated than Edge of Space, one example is on Steam Edge of Space do have many Not Recommended reviews as Signs of Life do not have such, when we compare such similar games, Signs of Life win because of more solid mechanics, more stable game, more easy to play, etc... And their focus on a unique story and hand-crafted content with procedural content to fill in the gaps, etc...

I sorta meant that for SOL.

I don't think SOL is even out yet (in beta or alpha) so I don't know how you can claim that.

Looking at the reviews for Edge of Space it's not doing bad at all and I hear from the fans the dev is dedicated.
