in the future, when starbound is complete, starbound no doubt but for now they're quite equal, both got what the other doesn't have

Player asks on Starbound's forums, if people there like Starbound. Results show that people lurking on Starbound's forums do indeed like Starbound.

    I'm shocked, Cotton.

Its like asking WoW players if they like WoW on the WoW forum... I mean you could try asking them if they like EverQuest instead but that would be just silly. :p

I find I like both of them because for me they both play differently but over all I like starbound more because its much more versatile. I can do more, see more and just wander around. if I'm bored with my volcanic/snow planet I can go find a tar/jungle one to explore next. I'll never have to worry about running out of space to build things either. Out of space on a planet, that's ok just hop onto your ship and travel over to its neighbour, virgin territory to build upon.

    My honest opinion:

I'm a player geared towards building, managing and exploring.

Terraria, even if it's the worst possible building game, still has more incentive to build than starbound (currently). Even if completely counterproductive I loved being able to build teleporters all around and in an instant go to my forward bases in the hallow, corruption, jungle, etc.

There was no managing in Terraria. Which is sad. There was some allusion to managing with renting out apartments in Starbound. Hopefully it will be more in depth than build any room, put an npc, rent it out.

In Terraria, every biome felt vastly different. The hallow was gigantically different than the snow biome, which was different than the desert, so on and so forth.

For instance, in the jungle, you had a lot of grass you had to cut to improve your vision, corruption had huge chasms, snow had less attriction with the ground, etc.

In Starbound, at least in the sector I am, I have yet to find a planet that feels truly different instead of a recolor with different mechanics. I don't think I can pinpoint exactly why I feel that every planet looks and feels the same to me.

I understand theyre all different since the mobs are in theory different, gravity is different and weather effects as well. They just somehow feel like instances of each other with no defining personality. (again, as of right now).

All in all, terraria feels like a much better experience a this point in time. While Starbound has a lot more promise than what Terraria can deliver. I just hope they can come through.

This will also be a learning experience for me to determine what makes uniqueness in biomes. I undertand my opinion is my own but maybe once they add quests and finish their plans for the areas, they may feel more unique to me and I might understand better why don't right now.

    So far Terraria.

Terraria kept me positively entertained all the time and managed to distract me with many "I wanna to do" things.
SB so far fails with this, a lot things are atm quite boring, repetitive or too easy.

But starbound is unfinished, it is , tbh actually more in alpha then beta stage. (consult wikipedia for what alpha and beta really means in terms of SW developement).

therefore such an comparison doesn't makes any sense at all to judge what si better. You cna judge what is different so far and what is done better so far and predict what may be better later.

At the moment Starbound feels dead compared to Terraria, I can see it switching in the future but not at the moment.

Honestly there's no point debating this. Stabound isn't fully released yet.

As of the moment, it's pretty undebatable that Terraria is the better game. Reason being because it's a complete game, the amount of content crammed into a single world is staggering. The version of Starbound that we have is practically an alpha, many of the features are missing.

Does Starbound have the potential to be better than Terraria? Of course. However does this mean that it will inevitably be better? No. They have yet to get there, and it's silly that some people here are saying Starbound WILL be better. Until that's proven to be true, it isn't true.

This thread is the equivalent of going to and Xbox or Playstation forum and asking which console is better. Threads like these are completely irrelevant. Ofcourse Starbound would win the votes in these forums and I'm willing to bet if you made the same thread in the Terraria forums Terraria would win. This serves no purpose other then to start some sort of absolutely pointless war or crave attention of some kind. And I'm willing to bet my entire Steam account this wont be the last of these types of threads made where you have well over 2 pages of replies.

The thing I hated with Terraria was how small the characters were. I love that Starbound has taller characters so you can see more detailed clothing, the weapons are mostly proportional to the character size. I love that you can travel across the whole world instead of a world with sides. And I like that each character can travel to new planets once you get tired of the old planet!

This is a really important question because as soon as you install Starbound it finds Terraria on your computer and the two fight in a ninja-inspired duel until one of them is victorious, at which point the loser is escorted to your trash bin where it is immediately deleted so that you can never play it again.

Well, you know, different styles and such. I like the taller'ish characters in Starbound too, though I am going to admit that I think the humans in Starbound look dreadful.
But a lot of Terraria's problems was engine restrictions. A pain that I've experienced as well, and it sucks. Which is why Redigit is planning on making a Terraria 2, since he now has more than enough funds to make it happen. I am hoping, however, that when Starbound is fully released that the worlds are as alive as Terraria's. Obviously its hard to match that because Terraria has all of its game's content in one world, and Starbound has the luxury of spreading it out a little, but as long as they have life to them I'll be happy.
