I posted this as an opinion like, some i get a game that is slimier to another game and the community votes the other game. I was just curious what the community voted.

I say let's wait for the release of Starbound, after that I'll be perfectly happy with in-depth comparisons. In it's current form I would give a slight edge to Terraria, mostly because it's fairly polished and complete by now, although i prefer SB's mechanics.
At it's full release i expect Starbound to wipe the floor with Terraria in terms of content, though I'm sure there are people that will prefer Terraria due to what they want in their game, which is perfectly fine.

I would honestly need more time for Starbound to develop before I can make a more "fair" comparison.
Otherwise, I would vote for Terraria, just because it's a finish project and Starbound still has ways to go.(Not saying Starbound is currently weak, but its a still in beta and not all of the content is there yet.)

Voted for Terraria on accident, I like how Starbound doesn't force you to build an apartment building to house npcs and you can just find merchants around the universe; which leads to my next point in that it is a LOT more geared for exploration.

I still have reason to play Terraria since I haven't done everything there is to do yet in that game. And I still enjoy Terraria just a little bit more than Starbound.

It's really up to your own preferences.
Terraria's all about DA MAGICS, whereas Starbound feels so much more rooted in science.

If I feel like farting fireballs and ice storms at giant flying eyeballs, i'll play Terraria.
If I feel like murdering helpless monsters with high-tech weaponry and orbital strikes, i'll play Starbound.

In their current states, I think Terraria is better, but with Starbound still being in beta I think it has a very good chance of surprassing Terraria before it has even reached 1.0.

I played a bit of Terraria but never really got into it that much. I prefer Starbound for two main reasons: everything from the great music to the more involved combat makes you feel, well, more involved, as a player, and the game just has buttloads of personality more than Terraria has.

Terraria never really immersed me, it always felt like I was playing a vidya game. Starbound actually got me loving my character, and even roleplaying as him a bit, since he actually has a personality (even if it is just derived from inspecting things,) the great, full-feeling music also provides a stunning backdrop to even the must mundane of sections in-game.

Really, I just think Starbound is an all-around better game. I could criticise its item variety, but it's still in extremely early beta, so I won't. That's another thing: it's in beta but it's still blowing Terraria out of the water for so many people, now that's rather telling of something, isn't it.

It's just... Starbound is just better, more enjoyable, more satisfying, for me, in every way

    I'd recommend it to everyone.

I'll also say it again. This game has tons of personality! And that's what makes it great!
Farming Oclumelons is ecstasy just because of their awesome aesthetic.
Decorating your ship in your race's style feels sublime because it's another connection between your character, the world and you!

In it's current state Starbound has great potential though it's currently a mess of bad progression execution, unbalanced pacing, poor player-perceived achievement, balance issues, poorly executed combat, and so on. Terraria wins for being a more enjoyable experience and when Starbound eventually gets months of updates it'll probably be the better game.

Even though StarBound is currently in it's beta phase, I personally think that it's way more addicting than Terraria. Can't wait for more sectors to explore!

    right now terraria is better.

  12. Just saying, I sorta expected Starbound to have more votes since these are the Starbound forums...

The idea of Starbound is great and Terraria was a stepping stone to achieve that so the argument is sort of... off. That being said. If you want exploration on an unprecedented scale, Starbound. If you want creation and gathering on a large scale but being able to stick around your zone of comfort? Terraria is the way to go.

If you want boring crap, go fiddle with Minecraft.

You expected an incredibly early, buggy beta to get more votes? Starbound even has 3/4th of the votes, so how weren't you expecting this?

starbound's got a lot of fresh mechanics but right now it just doesn't have the content diversity that terraria does, I'm afraid I'll get bored of it once the novelty wears off. Once starbound gets a chance to catch up on content a bit then, assuming the content is quality, I'll probably prefer starbound on the whole.

But like some others have said, starbound has been out for a few days and is incredibly buggy, unbalanced, and incomplete. Terraria's been developed and polished for years. You wouldn't expect starbound to be better at this point.

I voted for both. They're both different games, with different mechanics. Starbound is just a larger game in general, as the team working on it is larger and have spent more time on it than Re-Logic. Terraria is currently a 1 (or 2?) man team. Nothing to compare.

Why has this not been immediately locked for obvious reasons? This is an absolutely blatant attempt at trying to piss people off.

They are both great games and I will play both of them. Not really sure why those threads even exists.

PS:It's pretty much unfair, as if this poll was added on Terraria forum, then Terraria would win. Just the logic :poo:

  19. FireCyanide

    FireCyanide Subatomic Cosmonaut

They're both 2D platformer-type games, terraria is more of a hack & slash rpg whereas starbound is more sophisticated and though about. They're almost both completely different.

  20. CarrionCrawler

    CarrionCrawler Space Penguin Leader

I'm very tempted to agree with this.
Might as well just treat it as a 'why we love Starbound' thread.
