I though of this as a small reference to Terraria. As it was an enjoyable game, and deserves some credit, especially if Terria's Spriter is helping with development. The NPCs could have outfits similar to their Terraria counterparts. And would possibly look older. Except for the Dryad. If possible, would the Florans worship the Dryad as a goddess? Some of the Terraria NPCs could say something along the lines of "Hey, you remind me of this one person who had clothing like yours and weapons like yours. Oh well, anything you're lookin' for?" in a small textbox like in Terraria. They could live in houses sprited like in Terraria with the tables, chairs, torches, etc.
I think this goes too far with the terraria aspect, there can just be merchants scattered around in a town's market place rather than some random people that look like the terraria NPCs but older.
I can see what you're getting too. But it would be nice to see some of your old Terraria NPC buddies (except for that devil-spawn, The Guide) when you're playing Starbound.
I want the Old Man/The Clothier to come sell me a Mario suit in space. AHHHHHHWWWWWWWWW YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
