Terraforming?

I'm sure everyone who's played Terraria remembers this one.

One of the things I really enjoyed MOST about Terraria was how you could change a biome into another biome by removing enough of a certain block, or adding enough of another block.

Like if you dug up a whole chunk of forest and filled it with sand, it would become a desert.

I'd be ecstatic to see something like that with StarBound!

Hmm. Yes, this would definitely be good.

I think it will be more erm abstract than that well wait to see what htye have planned though

Terraforming is already in the game. What form will it take though, is still not known.

"Places terraforming machine in the ground, sets area for converting and to what biome"
    "wait"
    "????"
    Profit!

That actually was really annoying to me
Dumping a lot of sand in the middle of a field does not a desert make
Bringing dirt from one planet to another and spreading it out will not make it the same planet
Terraforming should be done with machines, and a few of them to boot

Technically, it does if you grab a whole lot of it and clear out the trees, and make the soil uninhabitable by plantlife other than cacti. I agree on using machines to do it, though. Although it should be perfectly feasible for someone with the sheer insanity and time on his hands to just do it by hand if he so pleases.

Case and point: You can do ANYTHING if you put your mind and plenty of elbow grease to it. Bl

That would not change the climate of the area to that which is required to sustain a desert-type location
Cacti and other desert life would not spring up unless you manually put them in and even then
the scorpions and tarantulas would not stay
they would terrorize the surrounding area though

I believe I recall something about a UFO like vehicle being used for mass terraforming... but knowing my memory you should take that bit of info with a grain of salt. I could do a quick check for accuracy..... but I'm lazy today :p

A more logical solution to terraforming besides dumping sand everywhere has been semi-confirmed. It is very likely there will be machines that you can use to affect your environment in various ways, as stated previously in the thread.
Honestly I love this idea, it seems like a logical way to implement customization on such a scale. Perhaps the machines aren't for particular biomes, but change the current one in a specific way?
Climate Machines for example: Putting a Heater and a Humidifier in a grassy plain turns it into a savannah. Putting these in a forest, along with a rain machine, turns it into a rainforest!

These are pedestrian Earth examples of course. With randomized biomes in the mix it would have very interesting affects.
