One thing I really like about this forum is that we sometimes get the opportunities to talk about our favorites or our least favorites, why we think that, and bring it into the topic as a whole. I dunno, I just love hearing people's opinions and how they relate to characters. So... why not make a thread dedicated to opinions on characters? : D Make a list of your favorites and why! Gush about yo fave. Do you have a favorite bachelor, bachelorette, villager, monster? Any kind of character you haven't seen that you'd like to see eventually? (my list is down below!)
Hmm... Favorites... 1. Tied between Abby, Eliot, Emily, and Leah. ---Eliot due to being a writer. I myself did write a lot, although not a career of it. So I relate because he is an artist, even if it is primarily in one category. ---Leah should be obvious with the above mentioned. She is an artist, and not only that she loves nature; also something I can relate to. ---Emily I like for her outlook and peppy optimistic attitude and wanting to boogy. (dance wildly) ---Abby well... Is a bit too closely resembling myself. And probably why I chose Leah first when aiming to marry. She is quirky (gonzo weird), adventurous spirit, gamer, and is for the most part strait forward. (from what I have seen) 2. Seb, Sam, Robin, and Linus for tie. ---Linus should be obvious from what I mentioned of Leah. Basically a wilderness man he is, loving nature as it is. His lifestyle choice in a way is courageous, since he is living off the land for the most part with nature. ---Robin I like her hard working attitude, and can see quite a bit of strength in that as a carpenter. Strong willed, with a personality I can enjoy being around. ---Seb being with computers is another art form, and can look to that in admiration. Also being part of a band to some extent. ---Sam is the primary band mate I think, and loves his instrument of choice. gotta love the artists. Not only that he enjoys doing tricks on a board. 3. Penny, Evelyn, George, Maru, Haley, and Marnie for tie here. ---Penny I find pretty strong willed and optimistically doing her best despite circumstances. She loves teaching the kids in town, and seems like a dreamer (of which i can relate quite a bit). Also reads a lot, whether it is pursuit of knowledge or just leisure. I found her to be caring, loving, and thinking of others in an overall compassionate way. ---Evelyn the lovely gardener of town. Who wouldn't like her charming outlook, I mean george apparently thought so. She takes care of the plants & gardens in town, and I can admire that dedication and loving care in what she does. Plus, cookies. ---George seems bitter at first, but does remind me of a few people. His sharp attitude may seem brisk, but in a way he means well. ---Maru I find quite creatively intelligent pursuing her science hobby and education to some extent. Gotta love gadgetry she seems to come up with or things that interest her. Space being one thing as an observer. ---Marnie I like due to her love of the critters. Loving and caring equally to people as she does the critters. However is critters first it seems. ---Haley I like her focus on her whims, which she expresses quite in an awkward way. I find it charming to an extent, and have met quite a few like that. She seems to want the upper class life or better off in the very least; Liking the fancy things of life. 4. Wizard, guild master, Pierre, Alex, and the 2 kids in town (Vincent & Jas) ---Wizard I like, because magic. The paranormal. Mysticism of it all. This goes for the Juminos as well. ---Guild Master is because he is head of the adventurers guild. Ok maybe it is more on the concept that he is an adventurer than anything else. Most likely retired, hence the guild. ---Alex is one that I seem to only like for that simple fact he is a dreamer. He has a dream oriented and rooted focus. Not overly fond of the sport, but it still nice to hold a dream for anything someone enjoys. ---Vincent & Jas I like how well they resemble children. As in their behavior, what they like doing, and general things that a child would do. It is like looking in the past for me seeing what I have done in my childhood days. So it is mainly because of how much reminds me of when I was a child, and the things I would do and the like. Mischievous in nature. ---Pierre I like for his dedication to his shop, and worry of his family. He is the supporter after all, and usually quite kind to the populous. Even though he may shove ads at the player, it is all in good faith; since his competitor wants to drown his business. Others: ---Kent I can't say much on, as I have only recently met him. ---Sandy I have not met yet, and only hear things from Emily. ---Demetrius I like his dedication in his field of research. His is for the most part a scientist right. ---Carolyn I am unsure of but makes a few good points when I talk to her. ---Jodi I don't mind her busy day, although still unsure what to make of her. ---Gil can't say much as he is just a reward giver, just like the traveling merchant person, except the traveling merchant is more of a expensive salesman. ---Louis is fine and dedicated to the over all populous. Apparently being kind enough to be a figurehead of the town. So he must have done something right. ---Clint. I like his hard working outlook and dedication to it. After all it has been in his blood for a while. He is nice in his own way. ---Museum Owner I can't really say much on since he is caretaker of the place and doesn't say much. So unsure what to make of him as well. ---Harvey. I just don't really know him all that well, but from what I have seen he is considerate; even if it is related to work. After all he is a doctor. But generally beyond that I don't know what to think. ---The fisherman I like for his finesse & love of fishing. I really don't like fishing (despite liking the mechanic behind it.). Just not my thing, so I barely talk with him, unless he is somewhere other than his shop. That is all of them that I could off hand remember. But is my thoughts on them.
yesssssssssssssss essays, i love reading them. thanks for your input! i'll probably just focus on my favorites from the categories i listed in the OP because i am lazy and don't want to think about every single character. #WizardBest #ShaneTrain Hmmmmm.... I guess I'll start with bachelorette. I haven't really thought about them too much... I beelined straight for the boys to marry so I could have husbando but I do love the interactions with all of them and they're all very unique in their own right. It's probably going to be Leah. Leah is super friendly and easy to get along with and talk to, which is why I really like her. When I first met her, she seemed like the kind of person most players would go for first since she's just all around chill. It's cool she's an artist (I'm an art student!) but with how she talks about art sometimes makes me laugh. I am just... I can't do the city life. I've never dreamed big or anything. I just have a passion, I guess. Good on her for being so optimistic, though! And the events I've had with her are fairly interesting too. She's in the saloon often so I can just talk to her and rack up the friendship points brownie style. As for townsperson, it'd be Robin. I just freakin' love Robin. She's headstrong, literally strong, very kind, helpful, and just has an attitude I love. She reminds me a lot of myself, but way better. She has a short temper and a real love of her craft, which is how I think about myself too. She's also not afraid to be herself. I think it's pretty interesting how a carpenter ended up marrying a devoted scientist (since to me, they have traditional vs modern kind of contrasts) but she's just so chill and yet she's excited, it's great. I wish we'd have more events with Robin. I also really like Linus. It's easy to pass him off as some random homeless guy at first, but when you get to learn more about him, you're just like... PEOPLE HAVE HARRASSED HIM? They'vE KNOCKED OVER HIS TENT? LET ME DESTROY THEM. He is SUCH a sweet guy!! And he lives out there by choice, which is admirable in a strange way. He seems very attuned to the natural, magical world, kinda like the Wizard, so he is rather mysterious in his own right. But yeah, seriously. If a zombie apocalypse happens, you know I'll be goin with my boy Linus. HECK YEAH JUNIMOS. Their introduction was pretty interesting, and thEY'RE SO CUUUTTEEE. I caught myself staying at the community center for hours after completing a section, because the junimo would hop around and follow you and aaAAAHHH I LOVE THEM. Their dialogue was really interesting, too. I actually wonder if you can decipher that language to see what they say sometimes? Lastly, for bachelor, Sebastian is husbando 4 lyfe. I'm actually pretty surprised with the diversity in favorites for the bachelors in this game. Everyone I talk to has a different favorite, so it's pretty great. But yeah, mine's Sebastian; namely for all the nice surprises I got when learning more about him in-game. I think it's pretty easy to stereotype every character in SDV and even I have to admit that Sebastian was no exception. I thought he would be depressing, kinda dark, and when you fall in love he would "hate everyone but you're ok i guess". I was so wrong, and I'm extremely happy that I was. There is a lot about him that I can relate to, and the fact that he's nerdy as hell is so up my alley it's not even funny. I think my favorite scene was when you played the D&D-esque game with him and Sam because it was just so fun. I could probably ramble on forever about Sebastian and his family, but I saved that for the other thread I have, lmao. I'll leave it with the fact that I shamelessly searched for him when I saw him in the relationships tab of the game, because I saw the hair and I just knew he'd probably be the one I go after. I saw Sam at first and liked him (he seems to peppy and adorable at first!) but I think I just have a weakness for the shy nerds. (And I just really like short/long hairstyles like that.)
Oh man...picking faves is tough cause a lot of them bring a lot of fun to the game. Bachelor: This one is probably the hardest cause I tend to lean towards liking the dudes by habit. (I too sort of bee-lined to the husbandos ) I really like how Elliot is a sweetie puff pretty much from the get-go where as talking to some villagers when you have 0-4 hearts is awkward and almost feels like "must...endure...till friendship", though inversely I do like how Alex (at least in my perception) has a gradual evolution of personality that I find very relatable. Harvey I find adorable in a sweet awkward way, and Sebastian I also find fairly relatable and truth be out of the vanilla portraits I found him also the cutest (I am a shallow monster >_>' ). Honestly the only bachelor I don't really seem to have much a connection with is Sam, who I have nothing against even. There's probably a reason I have ended up with like 6 different saves, I find too many of the characters likable enough that I want to make a char for every character I like. Bachelorette: All the gals have some nice things going for them, but I honestly really like Penny the best of the set of ladyfaces. Probably because there are elements to her I can really empathize with and to me it takes a lot of strength to keep trying one's best despite not given the best of opportunities. And I can certainly empathize with loving someone like your family member even if you may not like them or what they are doing with their lives...but also not really having the traction to pull off some made-for-tv intervention. Villager: I'd say Shane, though I guess he's gonna eventually migrate to bachelors and another save file on my computer NYO HO HO HO~ I think I can just relate to the corporate grind of a dead end job and how you end up feeling like the door to opportunity has long since passed you by so you aren't really living but just being alive. But at the same time, he cares about Marnie and Jas and I have never seen a dialogue where he speaks ill of them. So I do think much like most everyone in the village he does have a good heart. So I'm really looking forward to the later on since I am hoping that the eventual patch will give also a lot more insight to the character. Second to Shane though is probably Marnie. I dont know why, but I find there's a certain edge to her dialogue that makes me think she probably has a great deadpan sense of humor. Monster: Man...those junimos are really hecka adorbs. I was actually really sad at the end of the community center bundle cause I was all "noo...I gonna miss them. ;A;" and wished there was something that would let them appear on your farm or something. They are also probably the sole reason I will never get all the acheivements cause I just don't have the heart to take the Joja option. Dungeon-monsterwise though the dust sprites. Maybe its cause I always find levels 30-39 THE WORST...but going from grim dark caverns to bright lit icy and the little noises they make I'm all "Awww yiss! I love you bouncy little squeaker-puffs!"
Gotta love when you finish a bundle set and one of those little chaps/chapettes jump around after you.
That's my favorite part about finishing one. Had one day my more recent run where I managed to finish two at once, had two of them bouncing after me. Was completely adorable.
When it comes to bachelorette it's kinda of a tie between Abby and Leah. I always saw a little of myself in both of them. i like playing Video Games and i like being by myself like Abby, but i'm a big fan taking nature walks and i like Art and Leah is a Red head.
Favorite place on the map: Hidden forest - it is off on edge, but it is fun to go to and it inspires imagination Favorite NPC: probably Emily, she is goofy. When she tells you her secret passion it is kind of cringe worthy, but it also seems all too real and she doesn't really fit in here if you think about it. I sort of think she was the most inspired by a real person. Favorite fish? hard one but probably the pufferfish, it just screams cute and it isn't super hard to catch like some other fish, but it gives a good fight.
For me, my all-time fav is Elliott. I say any game that can make me straight, especially in a matter of seconds, is too powerful . He seemed like the cocky, self-centered Gaston type. But instead, he's really just a huge dork who needs a bit of moral support, he looks like he could be tough if he wanted, but instead he puts spiders outside and (spoilers) if you romance him, he mentions after marriage he at one point made a "book" of poems expressing his love for the player. Second fav is Emily, she's just so wacky and preppy she sticks out from the rest, she truly doesn't care what others think and does whatever she likes. You never know what'll happen with her -v-.
Favorite male character: Shane- guy trying to do right by achild that he suddenly became responsible for, in a dead end job that he hates, and actually managing to do a decent job despite struggling with his own issues. Favorite female character: Either Penny or Leah I would guess. Both of them come from homes that had some unhealthy dynamics, though that dynamic differs. Both are trying to work towards their dream in different ways, and both benefit from the player's interactions with them in different ways. Favorite 'older' character: I'd say Marnie. Loves animals, loves taking care of animals, and happy to extend that same care to humans to some degree. She also has some hints of having waited to start a family until it isn't an option anymore, so she takes what she can get from her dysfunctional 3 person family. Favorite magical being: Junimo. cute little squeaky puff balls of magical-ness. Favorite weapon: Arguably the obsidian edge- haven't gotten any further than that.
Well let's just say that the obsidian edge is the sword I used over and over till I got the best sword
In the end, the dorks are the best to romance. Sooo cute. and Elliot sounds really sweet! Haha, when I ask people who they would choose just for funs, many of them say Elliot. Let's hope they treat him right. ;m; I always thought Emily was a little strange at first, but she really grew on me. Namely, because of how she surprises you over and over. I thought she was sarcastic about making clothes and etc. since she's so different from her sister. xD But no, she's just being herself and loving it. Emily is very admirable.
Oh, this is hard. I'm going to have to go 'sympathetic' instead of 'favorite' when it comes to bachelors, because I'm pretty neutral towards most of them (and Shane isn't a bachelor, yet, at least not officially.) In fact, I was pretty much set about marrying Leah, until Harvey opened up and made me laugh/cringe through the game due to some of his experiences mirroring mine (What was that about losing patients, Harvey? Oh, I feel ya. Let's shack up and mope together.) and the fact that he's just so adorkable. My favorite bachelorette is Leah, because she's cute, and I'm shallow. But there's a part of me that admires her ability to leave everything behind to chase what she wants, despite knowing she just might fail. Penny is also a sympathetic character, but she reminds me of parts of myself that I despise, so it's a bit of love-hate situation. As for villagers, I've grown quite fond of George and Evelyn. It must be hard caring for someone like George -- who is embittered by his accident -- for decades, but Evelyn pulled through, all while maintaining a pretty...sunny outlook. It's admirable.
My favorite bachelorette is Penny because even though she lives a hard life in that trailer with a drunk mom, she still manages to not let that be an influence on her personality. My favorite place in SDV is the mountain lake (by the mines) because I spend a lot of time fishing there and there is a variety of types of fish to catch there. (Especially in winter) My favorite fish in SDV is the Ice Pip because it is very rare and very hard to catch, and it is kind of cute.
Hmmm, let' s see... For bachelorettes, I too have gone with Leah, has more mature events, is an artist that loves nature too (so sport and good health), and fight problems head on (Her punch on the ex boyfriend has been the "ok I' ve decided" thing) For the same reason I generally don' t like any of the bachelor, there isn' t one of them that didn' t lament heavily on his life. Maybe the less one is Sam, but he' s childish, so don' t like him too. I love the desert for the music, and flying serpent as monster for the audio effect
Favourite batchelorette - Haley. Well I chose her as my wife so it would be odd to pick another as my favourite. She's sweet and loyal, committed and hardworking, has never complained about anything and can make a mean omlette. Leah is second favourite but all of the batchelorette's develop into charming characters. Penny is a bit of a wet flannel but she has good reason to be. Favourite batchelor - Haven't really delved too deep into these yet, probably Harvey on face value. If I was going to go gay it would probably be for him, although armed with a razor. The others all appear to be immature or self-obsessed, although Alex appears to have reason to. I imagine like the girls they all turn out to be nice though. Favourite other villager - Pam, hands down. Emily second. Favourite shop - Travelling merchant. Saved me a lot of work on a number of occasions. Favourite fish - Pufferfish, of course. Just look at his little face! Favourite hat - I'm not a big fan of hats, although I doubt I'll be able to resist rocking the Sombrero when I eventually earn it. Favourite furniture - The puzzle table is a nice addition to the children's room, but it has to be the Plasma TV for practical reasons. Favourite animal - Avoiding all practical considerations, Dinosaur. Favourite festival - Egg. A quick fun game and access to Strawberry seeds. Favourite monster - Serpent. Relatively easy to kill and great drops. Favourite rarecrow - Alien one from the casino. Favourite fruit tree - Orange. They just look so big and juicy. Favourite painting - Highway 89 Favourite houseplant - Dried sunflowers Favourite artisan product - Cheese! Gold star cheese is a great mine snack. Otherwise beer is always welcome.
Favorites - Leah and Elliot in terms of marriage - Void people in terms of monsters since they're really interesting to me and seem like a huuuuuuge opportunity to add in some unique lore - In non-marriage category my favorite NPCs range from Wizard, Sandy, Kent and Willy - In terms of crops I love growing on season would be Spring: Potatoes. Summer: Blueberries. Fall: Grapes - In terms of trees would be Cherry or Apple - Favorite crop all together: Ancient Fruit - Favorite Artisan products: Wine and Honey - Favorite animal: Bunnies!
He is, he's always cutest after marriage, though -v- He tends to break out to random poetry to tell you how he feels, as corny as it is. Tbh, Emily put me off at first as well. Her smile kind of scared me at first, especially when the first dialogue I payed attention to from her is "eerie, isn't it?" paired with that smile But she grew on me, and now I plan to marry her when the new canidates update
Harvey and Elliott ended up being my favourite two bachelors, but only because the other three disqualified themselves. Sam lied to his little brother and I have serious issues about saying convenient lies to children, Alex kept saying "We should hang out at the beach sometime. Do you have a bikini?" and I had an infuriating five minutes on the jetty with Sebastian when he kept saying: "The ocean is best enjoyed alone, don't you think?" while I said "Well if you'd move a few inches over and let me get that lobster out of the crabpot at your feet you can go back to enjoying it alone. Geez, I am never putting a crab pot there again." I agonised over Harvey and Elliott. I like them both. I ended up picking Harvey because the fortune teller at the fair said two years running she saw us looking happy together on a farm, and because my character somehow managed to be better friends with all the single folk's parents than the single folk so I figured my character was more comfortable with people older than herself. I do quite like Sam's family. They all struggle and screw up and doubt whether they made the right choices but they never stop trying. The cutscene where Jodi invited me for dinner was fun. Vincent also gave me a frozen geode for Christmas, which was awesome. And my favourite animal is my white cow Andromeda, although my cat was a close second for the way it rolls all over the plants I'm trying to cultivate just like one of my real cats, and my ducks were third because they look adorable when they tuck their heads under their wings. But my white cow won because of this incident where my character was trying to fix a fence to keep my chickens and cows contained, but the second I cleared out broken section suddenly my white cow noticed the way was clear to the grass and shoved me backwards trying to get to it, closely followed by a couple of chickens. I had to spend the entire day rebuilding the entire fence because I couldn't get them back into their grassless pen. "Leave this delicious grass? Screw that! Om nom nom rustle rustle rustle". It sounds like a frustrating experience, but I thought it was hilarious how it wouldn't meekly be decorations for my farm doing exactly what I wanted. My white cow became my favourite animal after that incident because it now was perceived as having a personality. A stubborn, greedy, food obsessed personality, but a personality none the less.
