Tell me of Starbound

I was wondering if anyone can elaborate on the comparative content of the game, such as (of course not limited to the aspects listed in the example below)

    Starbound is:

    20% Crafting
    30% Combat
    25% Social Interaction
    15% Building
    10% Questing

Another tidbit that I'm not quite grasping despite having read what I could find, is the relative size of the game and how the zones are organized. I'm gathering that there biomes on planets, and planets in galaxies and galaxies in universes ... are there also solar systems? What more am I missing? Is there a cap on the number of worlds?

My main curiosity, is the generated game that is hosted by a server, how big can it be generated, and how long could exploring it take even with a large server population? For example, with Terraria (the only game I have to compare Starbound to), I see many servers resetting weekly, or bi-weekly, or monthly, because they get filled out fairly quickly.

    To answer your big questions.
1)There are sectors, each sector has it's own random solar systems and those have planets moons asteroids and so on. Some of those can be landed, others can't.
2)About the server stuff, every planet has a seed, and seeds are limitless (nah there is a limit but it's in the millions). The server only saves the differences made to a planet instead of the whole planet itself, so it shouldn't be too hard to run. Also, you could play with hundreds of people and yet never see them, unless they teleport to you directly. The game is THAT huge. I do predict some server resets but that's probably going to be because of too many changes, but your characters will of course keep their stuff.

It should also be 247% fun.

There are solar systems, you will see the other planets in the sky when you're on the surface, sometimes. You can land on moons and probably asteroids too.
There is a cap on the number of worlds, but that cap is so big it's silly.

I don't think any decent sized community will run out of new planets to explore very quickly. Of course, don't expect every planet to have a different background or different ores. Each planet will have /something/ unique, but there will be overlap.

    DNAY! Ketchup Robot

    Starbound is 100% randomly generated!!!!

Biomes are on planets (or moons), planets are in a solar system, solar systems make up a zone, and there are (I think) 3 zones right now.
And there is not really a cap on the amount of worlds, there are just heck a lot of them.

Why dont you take a looksie up here :3 Maybe theres a tidbit your looking for :3 http://community.playstarbound.com/...forums-help-megathread-read-this-first.15689/

If its not in there, why not ask the Search Function? Im pretty sure theres a thread or two dealing with... *peers shortsightedly at your problem*
Ah yes! Terrain generation and the sizing of planets! Theres a thread for that. Use the Search function! Always waiting to serve you on the far top right part of the screen ^w^

If you don't put "exploration" in Starbound statistics, you are either very uninformed, unintelligent, or unaware of the term.

    25% crafting
    10% building
    10% combat

I believe it's a lot more exploring and finding out stuff than combating. 2D games rarely have a great, innovative, strategy-based combat. Starbound does have lots of different, interesting weapons, dual-wield mechanics and different equipment, which will bring some variety and interesting aspects to it.

Still, it's 2D. They can't magically make it the best combat system ever. It will, probably, be the best 2D combat system though.

On to the next point, I hope it will be a lot questing. Lots of different "explore planet" and "find stuff X" quests.

Thanks for the info (those who offered any) ;)

That megathread is what I managed to miss, looks juicy.

What is this exploration you speak of? :coffee:

To be fair nothing is randomly generated other than possibly what mobs spawn. the base is procedural generation where tidbits are chosen from other tifbits to make a chunk so everything fits together. how many planets? er...i think someone did the math and well...it was very very very big! how big? imagine an apple and then stretch it to the point where you forget it's an apple(very very big, in other words its in like the 1x10^25ths or more)

Also, we don't really know until we played the game. But exploration is the main part of the game, that's for sure.

I know it. Even as true as the megathread probably is, the dev had to comment that it would not be stickied, because that would indicate it is more than just speculation.

They really want to make open beta/launch just like Christmas morning, I guess.
