Teleportation OP?

Several things about beaming to your and party members' ships are kinda broken:

    1. You can beam to party member ships from *anywhere* - yes even miles underground and on other planets. Then you just beam back to the surface and voila! Safe and sound...
    2. If you take somebody to another planet and they die, they get sent back to the planet that their ship is on. This is kind of annoying, except for the fact that they can just beam to your ship, which happens to be *ACROSS THE SOLAR SYSTEM*

The above two items together mean that if you have a party, and everybody puts their ship at a different planets, you get free interplanetary travel. This seems nice, but feels a teensy bit unbalanced, at last in the early game. Maybe add a tech to be able to cross-planet teleport?

    Just a thought ;-)

    Brachwah Yeah, You!

If you think about it, it is more realistic this way. Think Star Trek. All your ship is doing is locating your body's atoms, taking them apart, sending them to the ship faster than lightspeed, and then reassembling you.

    You're right, that's totally realistic ;)

Yes, but I'm pretty sure in Star Trek the people on earth could not just teleport to a ship somewhere orbiting Klingon... Otherwise the Vulcans could have totally escaped :p

Interstellar travel is okay with your imagination but party mechanics that revolve around teleportation is to much? People are way to serious...

Also never thought I'd see the day that someone would call travel hubs in a co-op sandbox OP. Not a sword, not a special item, armor, or build, TRAVEL AND GROUP MECHANICS OH-PE!

I think the teleporting to your buddies ships on other planets is really great. My friend and I had our ships setup on different planets so we could go back and forth.
The only problem I see in it, is the fact you can teleport on to their ships from way underground.

You really want to have to crawl back up some miles-deep cavern you've dug?

No, but there should be another resolution for that. Maybe a teleportation pad you bring with you, so you can create "save" points in your cave. I just don't like that it's an exploit. If they want it so that you can get to your ship and friends from a cave, that's fine.

    You can't do this anyway.
You have to have sky in your backwall to teleport. It's not really that useful right now, it will be more useful when/if we can set "landing points."

That's the bug it seems. If you choose to teleport onto a friends ship that's on the server, it'll teleport you to their ship no matter where you are.

You can achieve the same effect by exiting and logging back in. Yeah, it's a bit of an abuse but you don't have to do it.

I really like the idea of the teleport pads. I get that it should be harder to get back 'home' from a deep spelunking, but there should be some sort of 'cost' to it, for it to be possible. Teleporting to your ship from the surface should check both the background wall AND the LOS to the sky, but there should be some way of saving locations. Using a Teleport Pad has the initial cost of the pad it's self, AND you have to leave it there, but also has the benefit of being able to get BACK to that location, later on! Might be better for balance to have one-shot, one-way pads to start, with multi-shot, one-way as the first upgrade, then multi-shot, bi-directional as the final tech tier.

I should point out that that Star Trek argument works here, too... You need a Field Strength Focus, or somesuch, in that show, if you need to amplify your signal to the transporters.

So you implement a lot of unappealing backtracking gameplay for new players and allow people who're already involved in the game to evade annoyances? That seems like not a way to impress a playerbase.

Backtracking out of caves or stumbling across landscapes you've stumbled across many times before doesn't really give me a lot of life affirmation. I've already mined everything I want out of the cave on the way down, and enemies are just going to be a reverse repeat of what I dealt with before, paradoxically getting easier as I progress for no reward. Backtracking across landscape just has the effect of making me sick of that landscape that much faster--if I only have to cross it to get to wherever I want to go once before throwing down a telepad and working there for a while, then I'm not burnt out on it when it's time to press onward.

Requiring players to haul their way across familiar terrain over and over cheapens it way more than letting them bypass pieces of it they've made it through before does. If I have to walk three minutes to get to a random location where I die five times, then I'm fifteen minutes more sick of the landscape by the time I finish that installation up and move on.

If I remember correctly, Tiy mentioned in a stream that he wants to add more teleportation gadgets including a legit way to teleport between planets and systems. I take that to mean that teleporting to a friend's ship while they are on a different planet might be removed.

It's safe to say that beaming to their ship while deep underground will surely be fixed, though.

Teleport pads should definitely be implemented if they are not already planned.

Being able to teleport to party member ships from underground is definitely a bug.
If you could teleport to your OWN ship as well from underground it might not have been, but they obviously intended teleporation without a pad to require LOS on the sky.
Party mechanics are one of the areas that is still being worked on according to the roadmap (20%), so it makes sense things like this are overlooked/missed.
