Cool thing about me is that I installed Steam just to throw money at Chucklefish for this beauteous game, un-installed Steam, and am now using a "pirated" version because I prefer it. How does this settle with you? Probably like a warm, ripe, scheiss-torte. If that's considered swearing by anyone, I don't care so long as I don't get my account suspended. Uhhh.. but isn't Steam is the fastest way to get regular game updates instead of waiting for someone to put them online somewhere? Cause the game files are completely equal. So it looks like a show up to me. Also if you wanted to "throw money at Chucklefish" you could to it directly.
Steam is the fastest way to get the Nightly updates, but it doesn't matter to me. I despise the fact they refuse to optimize steam to make boot-up shorter, and also refuse to make it more navigational to those that aren't on tablets. I already have donated a bit to them, but I felt buying the game on Steam, which is annoyingly the only way to get this game "legally", to basically give me the right to piracy.

@Kennethern Welcome to the forums! Couple quick notes: 1) You can buy Starbound from GOG or through the Humble Store, both DRM-free, if you want to avoid Steam entirely. 2) Starbound does not use any DRM, including the Steam version, so you can exit Steam and launch the (Steam-installed) game directly. I would recommend either of the above options over your alternative method for the safety of your computer and data.
