The gravity bubble tech is insanely over powered. It uses no energy with or without a toxic flower backpack and it allows you to fly over everything. Linking this tech with a energy dash tech would be way too op.
Well, the energy cost could obviously be balanced. Many things need to be balanced. Throwing the term OP around is pointless, as many things are over- and under-powered. Most techs now are underpowered, while some are overpowered. This wasn't really originally about changing techs during fights. It was just about making them better, and it started with upgrades to be able to use two, three and eventually even four at once, without swapping. And about being forced to use one type of tech or something, that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. If a tech is strong, be it actual damage or cancelling attacks, it would cost more energy, possibly the whole bar. So one could not spam Firewall and force others to do the same or lose, because either they have a tech that can pierce it, or they wait and kill them when the firewall goes down. It wouldn't last a long time, and some techs could have a piercing effect, like a plasma bolt. Water could also cancel it out. This is a high tech game, and I can foresee it taking on a metroidvania style combat, with upgrades and customization to make your playstyle fit you. Techs would be a large part of combat, but they could not be all there is to it, which you and some others seem to think I'm trying to get at. Say you use Firewall, when pvp is implemented (if it already is, I just haven't found it >.> ). This would probably sap your whole energy bar. Unluckily for you, your opponent has water-based tech, and shuts the firewall down. What do you do then? This here is why weapons are going to be the main combat device. Techs are just going to make it more exciting and more strategic than either A: Fire gun as fast as possible or B: beat your opponent down with a rusty axe. Instead, you would have to dash after them, blink in front of them and get that quick hit in before they realize what you did and blink away themselves. I don't know if this is what the makers want for it, but I can personally say I would really love a game that combines metroid, terraria/minecraft, and FTL (referring to the ship battles I heard were coming). And with that, I will end this longer-than-necessary post here.
Bumping. Any opinions on my tech examples? Rather than being actual techs I want, they were just what I said, examples. If they are implemented, great. If not, it's what I expected.
I'm with you with this. If i have time, i'll try to make a mockup of the Techs slots on the character screen. Adding visibility to our cause! And i've be thinking of this with some of "CM97878" ideas EX: - Active Techs, 3 slots: Dash, jumps, bubble thing, blink, etc... Linkable via rare upgrades and/or craft. Can insert Microchips Cost energy to use - Passive Techs, 2 slots : Regen X, Buff X, Armor X, Light Radius at night X, Resist X, Warmth X, etc... (X are random values by the way) Can insert Microchips Not linkable but have to discover the second slot (say mid-game) Does't cost energy to use - 1 Utility slot: Mechs and other things Not upgradeable, can not insert microchips, as a cooldown. -Microchips and upgrades should be rare. Maybe have some legendary too. And that's it !
I was thinking that beaming the mech down would be the tech, rather than the mech itself, and you could possibly find old, decrepit mechs in abandoned places that you can beam up. Heck, once ship upgrades are in effect, throw a mech bay in there.
That's a pretty good idea actually, that way if you wanted a mech readily available you would need to use one of your tech slots.
Left on the TENTACLE planet (I had the wrong planet highlighted) There's an avian village and further left is a chest with a high damage grenade launcher that will 1 or 2 shot things even on level 10 planets. Mine has done up to 2200+ damage, but fires slowly. Anti Gravity and Human mech tech located on this planet. I marked the beam down point with the campfire. Just dig straight down where the torch is and you'll come across the anti grav tech. On the same planet, head left until you reach this area, its not far. Dig straight down a long ways where the torch is placed for a human mech tech. I want to say there will be a few long ish drops but the chest will be by water. Both planets I believe are in the same solar system. Edit: I totally posted this in the wrong thread. Whoops.
Oh My GOD Ste!!! I was there with you!!!! I could see it all! I was even cheering you on towards the end!!!
Yeah i understand. I didn't found or try the Mech yet. I put it there because i was thinking that it may be too powerful to have it all time. And there could be more of a kind of Mech and/or use of this slot. And Tech/Skill/Utility slot with a cooldown mechanic, it could be a ''limit break'' kinda skill !!!
