Tech Chest.

No need to ctrl-alt-del out.

Just save and quit to main menu, go to your starbound/universe folder and delete the .world file with the coords of the planet
start the game, loot chest, then repeat.

 

The bug is a problem with the RNG, probably rolling the same item multiple times for people. So if you get a tech chest with a certain tech....it will then spawn that same tech in the next few tech chests you open. I've come across the same issue. I dont get why this is so ahrd to comprehend.

 

I don't see how that really is a bug more than it being RNG. I have found a few chests, one being pulse jump, and the next being dash. I haven't had issues.

 

Well its possible that the bug is only happening under certain circumstances and you havent reproduced it yet. I didnt say it happened all the time but there have been numerous reports of people getting the same tech multiple times in a row

 

I can tell you from personal experience that this is not a constant thing. On three of my characters, I've only encountered two tech chests, getting Pulse Jump from one and Dash from the other. A valid random number generator will sometimes have strings of the same result multiple times in a row, it's not necessarily a bug. If there was a bug in the RNG, it would most likely manifest as being generally biased towards a certain result, which is not consistent with the evidence of some people getting one more often than they think they should, and some people getting a different one. and some people (like me) getting lucky with the average distribution.

 

This. The RNG seems to be just right. I haven't seen many issues and really, if there is only a set number of techs it will hit one a few times in a row. I have made a few RNG programs before and watched the outcomes. I saw a few times that it hit the same number 2 to 5 times in a row. Its just how the random coding works.

 

There are a metric ton of ways to handle RNG, particularly in games. As far as I know there are only three techs? Correct me if so, but assuming there are three, then you have a 1/3 chance (with pure RNG, if that's what's used,) to receive any ONE of the items any time you open a chest. Speaking from a purely mathematical standing (again with pure RNG,) that is 1/3 every time you open a chest.

The likelihood of you having bad luck with RNG is high. I have found three tech chests total, and found the three separate techs I know of. Rocket Jump, Pulse Jump and Dash.

I'd wait to see how many people can attest to some weight on Pulse Jump to jump to any conclusions.

 

REMEMBER: The LOOT in chests is random for EVERYONE, so you cant give a coord saying "Go here for a Mech Tech!" since it might not be a Mech Tech for them, but still, give a coord for any Tech Chest is cool Either way your going to get soemthing!

 

First there is more than 3 techs. Second a tech chest isnt garunteed to have a tech in it. so the chance is nowhere near 1/3 ...more like 1/25 or so.

Lastly ...from a purely mathematical standpoint even using your 1/3 chance (which is much to high) .. the chance to get teh same tech 5 times in a row is (1/3)^5

1/3 chance for a chest that has tech to have one of the three techs. The chance of it being a tech chest doesn't come into play here, because we're not talking about how many chests in total end up having a specific type of chest.

Then it's not a tech chest, is it? You're trying to add a stipulation that doesn't matter. If it doesn't have a tech, it doesn't apply to the equation.

Your not making sense. Were talking about a TECH CHEST's chance to have a specific item. The CHANCE it will have say a pulse jump tech would be hypothetically 1 in 25. That means out of every 25 TECH chests you open, one will have a pulse jump. The other times could have other techs or they could have none.

Maybe i should be more clear...Im talking about the in game item Hi-Tech chest. They dont always contain techs. When someone says Tech Chest...they dont just mean a random chest that has a tech, they are talkign about the actual in game item, Hi-Tech chest.

Just wanted to know. Using a random number to create a way to make it seem as though its not being random doesn't make things look better. Just state I do not know the exact number.

 

You're reading way too much into this.

Taking the number of chests that have a tech inside of them, regardless of the given name of the chest, my hypothetical equation (apparently based on an incorrect number of techs) still stands.

 

I dont believe regular chests can spawn with tech inside them so it doesnt work unless were talking about the specific item Hi-Tech chest.

and i've already proved why it doesnt stand.. Mathematically the chance to get the same item 5 times in a row you must Raise the chance to get the item to the 5th power.

 

That, frankly, doesn't matter to the equation. At all.

 

If it is in Tier one alone, then you're likely only going to locate Pulse Jump or Energy Dash. Tier two and Tier three perhaps contain different techs, or each Tier has its own Tech?
