Teach me about pets

There's surprisingly less talk about the pets, especially how to train them.

Since i read that the pet slots in the inventory aren't implemented yet, i assumed there is no pet for now. Turned out that i was wrong.

So now i'm running here and there with my pets, and trying to get them to kill some monsters so they will grow and get stronger, at least this is what i have read about it. And thats pretty much all, i have no idea if death will reset their kill counts or whatsoever, and even in gentle star systems, the mobs are dealing more damage than my pets are dealing to them, so my pets die unbearablely often, which is why i didnt endure the training trip too long, cos it was really just collecting pod and throw them again.

i hope you guys can share some experiences with me, and explain a bit more about training pets or in general if you happen to know anything.

the pet système is going to be something else than the thing we can do with capture pod, so no, its not implemented yet
about captured mob evolve, apparently they indeed grow stronger by defeating other monsters, but the thing is, to leave the planet you need to kill it, and when they die they loose their exp, so in the end its a little pointless

Well, the reason that pets haven't been talked about lately is that Chucklefish hasn't really done anything with them. They are still a barebones function of the game that feels more like a proof of concept rather than anything concrete, as they lack any way to track their stats, recall them without letting them die, or any way to command them. Heck, there's no way to tell which monster is in what Capture Pod even! Plus small monsters got nerfed, so the primary reason anyone even bothered with them (beyond them being cute) is now gone as they now lack ranged attacks.

As of right now, and I'm not totally sure about this, but dying may actually reset their EXP and thus their power so trying to use them for combat at all is... iffy. Even training them is a bit of a chore just because you have to find a monster, weaken it enough for your little guy (or gal) to kill it, and repeat this until it levels up and gets a little more effective. Since small monsters are limited to melee, this means they're constantly at risk of dying and really aren't that effective. Plus that whole thing where monster evolution hasn't been implemented yet.

So much this. All the fun of keeping a pet is gone now that small mobs don't know any interesting attacks.

Maybe these two "pet" slots to the right of the "tech" slots could work as a method to use persistent pets. As in, these would follow you as you beam from planet to planet, maintain their experience and serve as your "main" pets, but once they're killed, they'd have to rest a bit before being able to come out again. This would be indicated by the normally red lights in the capture pod becomming gray. Additionally, to prevent abuse, they would be unable to be taken out of the "Pet" slot until they'd be fully healed, so you wouldn't be able to just put in a full-health pre-evolved pet to take the former's place.

Pets that weren't placed in the Pet Slots would be weaker, couldn't level up and be in general more disposable, but they wouldn't need to heal before being able to be re-summoned again.

Also, I agree with the attack thing. If small pets can't have ranged or special attacks, then at least make them learn unique ones early in. And have them be able to learn a wide variety of said attacks, so not all pets end up being the same thing.

You meant to say, "There is little talk about pets."
"Less" is used in a singular measurement where measurements are not quite precise, such as "I want less gravy on my mashed potatoes."
"Fewer" is used in plural measurements where the items are capable of being counted, such as "I want fewer cookies to go with my milk."

That being said, I'd like to be able to craft tech for my pets. The techs could then be put in the pet slots and have different effects.
