Story Tales of the Grounded

Hello, friends. I have decided to write a weekly fanfic called tales of the grounded. First up, I shall introduce our protagonist.
Spintail was always a little off. He is, as his name suggests, an avian, born and raised on Avos. During his teens, he fell in love with a lovely avian maid, Jadewing. I leave us here, as the story covers the rest.

Chapter 1 said:

Spintail lounged in his home. It was a quiet morning, but he relished in it. His parents usually dragged him about during the mornings, but today they hadn't. They had gone out to grab some food for the family dinner. Spintail looked up, on his wall was a piece of scripture, hailing Kluex. He thought this stupid. Kluex was a ridiculous idea to him, but he dare not admit this, as Avos is quite harsh to these "Groundeds."
He shifted slightly as someone knocked on the door. He ignored it for a moment, when he heard a voice outside yell out "Let me in, seedbrain!". This surprised him and he walked to the door. Opening it, he saw that it was in fact Jadewing. "Oh, sorry Jadewing. Care for some Neonmelon?" He asked politely. Jadewing chuckled "I am afraid I cannot stay long. I came to warn you that the clipped council has been sending men door-to-door as of late. They are looking for the grounded." Spintail swallowed hard. He knew what would happen if he were discovered. "Jade. I need to ask you a favor." He whispered. "I need you to go and grab your things. I found a ship we could use. We could leave Avos and this wretched persecution." He pleaded. Jadewing smiled. "Alright, but until I get back, you should lay low." She replied, walking out the door.

Chapter 2 said:

Spintail was on edge. It had been five hours since Jadewing had left. He had no choice but to look for her. As he left, he noticed several other avians in a crowd. He walked towards it. When he reached it, he realized just what they were all abuzz about. In the middle lay a makeshift platform. Atop it rested a member of the Avos High Priesthood himself. "People of Avos!" The priest proclaimed "It has come to our attention through the words of Kluex himself that there are some Grounded hiding within this village. Please, bring forth these fools so that we may cleanse them in the blinding light of Kluex!" Spintail did not need to be told what he meant. Next to this priest stood an avian, adorned in golden ornaments from head to toe. On his back, polished neatly, was a rifle. Spintail began to sneak away from the crowd in horror as several avians, bound and gagged, were dragged to the platform and asked to kneel. The last things Spintail heard of these people were some muffled grunts, an avian prayer, and a gunshot for each of them. Once Spintail was safely out of sight, he darted to Jadewing's home. He sneaked past several patrols before he reached Jadewing's door. Knocking loudly, he got no answer. He heard a small commotion nearby. Approaching it, he saw that it was a mirror of his village. A makeshift platform with a priest standing upon it. He stood in the crowd, attempting to see who was lined up for the execution before the priest finished his speech. Among the bound and gagged was Jadewing.

This may have been the hardest one to stop writing. I really wanted to finish as much of it as possible, but I still needed to leave you with a reason to come back next week. Hope you guys enjoy next week's!

Chapter 3 said:

Spintail could only watch in horror. As the priest finished his speech, Jadewing was walked up to the stand. Spintail rushed the stand pushing the audience members aside, but two guards grabbed him and held him by his arms. He struggled, but he could do nothing. The guards loosened their grip for a moment, due to a shout from the audience: Jadewing's mother, Scarletleaf. The priest was shocked, as were the guards and executioners. Spintail elbowed the guards in the stomach, making a swift escape. The crowd saw, and began to riot. Gunshots went off, but not from the executioners, rather, the villagers had smuggled weapons. Spintail reached the stand and found Jadewing hunched over, holding her shoulder. "Jadewing, are you alright!" He cried. She groaned in pain as she tried to stand, but simply could not. "I won't let you die here!" He added, tossing her arm over his shoulder. They walked steadily for many village blocks, but soon, the guards caught up to them. Spintail was horrified. There were only a couple yards to the ship he had found, but the guards were fast approaching. He grabbed some sand from the ground and tossed it into the guard's eyes, temporarily blinding them. He was gone by the time they were able to see again.

Chapter 4 said:

"Father, will Jadewing live?" Asked a young child. "Now, my boy, I wish that I could change that detail, but alas, it is far too late." Spintail replied. "You see, our galaxy is not a happy place. You are part with many you love. But, I can not stop the story here. So, please allow me to continue."...
Spintail dragged Jadewing as her last energy was exerted, but she was becoming heavier. "Jadewing, we WILL make it out of this." He muttered to her. The ship was in sight, an Avian ship. Spintail made double-time to reach it, and shut the airlock doors behind him. He put Jadewing down and walked to the console, launching the ship into orbit. He was pushed back into his chair as the ship took off, but he managed to stand once the gravity generators activated. Walking back to the entrance, he looked at her battered and bloody body. "We did it, Jadewing." He said to her "We are among the stars." Jadewing's eyes widened slightly as she propped herself up on Spintail's shoulder. "Beautiful..." She muttered. "Spintail. If I could I would do it all again..." "You won't have to, Jade. Rest. You've earned it." He said, setting her down. Her eyes began to close, and Spintail began to weep. He looked around, finding the fuel hatch. Looking inside revealed enough fuel to bring him to a nearby planet, but not enough for much further.

Thanks for the warm reception. I will probably write new entries each Sunday if I can make time. So for now, enjoy the latest episode up in the original post!
