Bug/Issue Switch Version - Can't fish at an angle

In the PC version, you can change the direction of casting slightly by holding a direction key while doing so.
On the switch I can't can't seem to make this happen at all. I tried using both sticks and the d-pad. Even the L/R buttons but nothing works.
I read somewhere that this happens with any controller setup though, even if you use a controller on PC. Not sure how accurate that is.

 

You can't use the watering can to water at an angle either.

 

I didn't even realize we were supposed to have the option to do this! (Currently playing the game for the first time on Switch.)
