Switch Paintings/Furniture Bug

I cannot place any paintings, furniture or the calendar in my house. I’m using the cursor and getting green boxes and it just makes a noise and nothing can be placed. None of the furniture works, and I’m using the top wall tiles for hanging. Getting pretty frustrated, especially the calendar since it has everyone’s birthdays which is a pretty big deal if you’re trying to increase friendships with gifts. Please help.
