Bug/Issue Switch - Controllers not working and can't re-enable them for Stardew Valley

This is a nasty bug so it deserves a thread of its own:

"I was playing and all of a sudden none of my controls worked. I could still use the Home and Screenshot buttons. Time was still passing, and my character's eyes were blinking, but I couldn't move or open menus.

So I quit the game and reloaded, and I can't select anything! None of the controls work, even after a full system restart. The controls work fine in other games, but Stardew Valley is now completely inoperable."

"I can't get past the start screen. The cursor doesnt move, they work on all my other games and the home screen of the switch but when i start up this game they don't seem to work. Also should mention im in handheld mode and restarting the app doesnt work."

Add me to the list of people who have experienced this. Mine has been under very specific circumstances though:

Replication:
1) be in portable mode, though I have not played in docked mode yet, so caveat there
2) hit Home screen button to suspend the game
3) put system in rest mode

May or may not be relevant, but I've done this a few times for a short period, and have not had this occur. It's only happened at times where I've left the system for some time. Only solution is to hold power and restart the system.

 

We're looking into this issue. It seems to occur if you have a pro controller synced. When we've seen it happen you are still able to use the home button. Going to controllers, then "Change Grip/Order" usually resolves the issue temporarily.

When this happens to you, do your home & screenshot buttons still work after it starts up? Next time, could you check if a pro controller is synced?
