  1. Really appreciate your version of the truth, I'm sure he'll feel the sense of accomplishment by cheating and instantly getting a brain when in turn he could explore planets, find weapons and vanity items, discover new villages and dungeons and collect techs all while casually looking for a brain.

Who wants to play the game right?

And I'm sure he really appreciates your version of the truth. What you find entertaining and fulfilling must surely be the same way to everyone else. After all, you ARE the authority.

You are so disconnected from the reality of this I don't even know where to begin.

Alright, wait, wait. I got it. Let me spell it out for you:

I'm pretty damn sure he would rather be exploring, finding stuff, discovering villages and collecting techs, RATHER THAN RUNNING AROUND WITH A CRAPPY SLOW FIRING "GUN" THAT HAS A GRAND TOTAL RANGE OF TWO FEET AND SAPS ALL YOUR DAMN ENERGY, WHILE PRAYING TO ALL THAT IS HOLY THAT THE RNG DECIDES TO LET HIM GO BACK TO HIS USUALLY SCHEDULED STARBOUND JOURNEY.

    *Casually clears throat*

-Ahem- What was I saying again?

    Oh, right:

-Having fun and exploring the universe.

-Grinding brains with the worlds worst "gun."

    Pick one, and only one.

  5. What part of casually didn't you understand? You can do everything I said and use the brain gun when you want. No one is putting a gun to your head "no pun intended" and forcing you to use it on every enemy you see, grinding away mindlessly isn't my idea of fun, neither is cheating.

However exploring and progressing while completing quests is really fun, you should try it sometime.

Or you could be smart about how you use it and do both? Hit the mobs with a melee weapon and then zap them to finish them off.

well when i did the brain hunt it only took like the 4th try but i have seen people say it takes alot more. i have only done it once but i can see why people can
be frustrated by this. i also dont really see the point of this task they should do away with it all together honestly

  8. Exactly, I can't believe people would try to kill mobs with just the brain gun. It's so much easier to wear them down first and finish them off with it.

kinda thought everyone did it this way. that gun really doesnt seem like much of a weapon so i never thought of fighting monsters with it lol

What part of "pick one" didn't you understand? There is no "casually" to this. Period. This is Grind with a capital G. Doing things the way you're suggesting just sucks the fun out of doing other things.
This is exactly what I mean. This is the OPPOSITE of casually. This is basically trading one form of monotony for another. This takes as much effort as just killing them with the damn gun. Something tells me you have no clue what you're talking about, otherwise you would have tried it both ways and realized the same damn thing.

In my opinion there should be more brains to getting the superior brain than grind as it is now. Pre wipe, I think I killed about 200 enemies without getting the brain, but a friend of mine had an extra so I got one from him. Post wipe I got lucky after about 40-50 which is fine I guess. However, I wish it was more about: "who has a superior brain?" not some random monster. It would be cool if one had to get one from a playable race/NPC. Find an NPC village and you'll get one. Perhaps not make it 100% chance for them either though, perhaps 50% chance or something like that. I like better that the game is about the player thinking, exploring and trying out solutions than having to grind mobs with that useless piece of shit brain removal gun. (low damage, low range, slow attack speed and drains lots of energy) (I know that the trick is like pokemon though: get it down to low health then finish it off with the brain extractor.)

First chars about 10-20 kills for me , after the wipe I got it on my 37th kill.
Like other people said above , just take 'm down to 1 little bar of their life and then zap 'm with the extractor

I kill them on an Alpha Sector planet, usually the one where I've built my house. No need to wear them down, just one shot with the brain gun, and they're dead. Easy-peasy.

It's so easy, I accidentally got two brains on one character without realizing it. I was just running along, one-shotting monsters, and not paying any attention to the text.

Sounds good, but it doesn't really make sense with the lore we have to obtain the brains from sentient creatures. Perhaps there should be a range of creatures made out of parts that give them big heads or something that we should be aiming for to get a better chance of a superior brain?

    Grind with a capital G?

Where were you back in the days of Everquest? Or vanilla WoW, where "learning" instances meant sitting in groups of people you barely tolerated for hours at a time, daily, for months on end, at the whim of some college freshman who created an entire system of token reward schema so as to add an extra layer of tedium and accounting to the whole affair? Or the beta-like "releases" of Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan or Age of Reckoning where getting to level cap meant killing the same enemies over and over for days on end, for lack of applicable quests?

This shit takes half an hour if you're unlucky. If this bugs you, then realize that the entire game is just one big treadmill of the same stuff over and over: If you're not having fun in the first hour, guess what: Everything else is more of the same.

Not playing those piece of crap games because they're full to the brim of this sort of horrid nonsense.

I've played two MMOs in my time and neither of them were even half as grindy, and what grind there was I outright avoided. At the moment, I play no MMOs and have no plan to in the foreseeable future. There's a reason for this: Most MMOs are horribly designed. Or brilliantly designed if you think abusing the paying customer is a good thing.

    P. S. "You should accept this turd sandwich because it's not a toxic waste souffle" is a bad argument, any and every time. Stop using it. If something is bad and something is worse, they're both still bad.

Out of the three times I needed to get the superior brain playing starbound I have gotten it first try everytime, now I have always been lucky but my lucks not that divine so I am just gonna guess that you guys must have angered lady luck in some way or another.

Never knew it could take that long ( 120 kills + ) On all my char. I found a superior brain between the 10-20 kills. But i kill those stronger enemies in the night maybe that helps?
