RELEASED Super /sbg/ Race Mod 0.17

Eight (possibly more) exotic alien races from the depths of the Internet to spice up your galaxy!

    I checked the convos, I just didn't reply. :p If you see that I've been online since you've sent me a message or posted here, it's highly likely that I've seen it.

    Also; no, I haven't updated the mod yet (you'd be able to see that too). Unfortunately, I'm spending somewhere between some of this week and all of this week fixing my roof (starting at 6am and in godawful temperatures), so modding hasn't really been on my mind lately. Once that's all sorted out, I'll be back to my battlestation working on this/these- Chucklefish has been heavily implying that the update is just around the corner, so we'll see exactly when a release happens- I may not actually get everything I wanted into it, despite having tons of time to do some beforehand. Yay procrastination!

    Ran into a bit of a show-stopper. The beldehor have a complete T1 set, which is awesome...unfortunately, for some silly reason, T2 (but not T3) requires the previous T1 set to craft. So the scavengers armor (human T2 steel) needs the scout armor (human T1 iron) to make. And the beldahor have the pathfinder T1 set instead. I imagine the Singularnosti may also have this issue

    Don't worry, the S-nosti is only up to T1. But yeah, that's quite an issue.

    Solved for now with a workaround. /admin then /spawnitem humantier1chest (replace chest with head and pants for the full set). Not the cleanest solution, but it does the job.

    Anon from /sbg/ here some concrete suggestions re: dungeons.

    1) Start off with random encounter dungeons, like you sometimes see with the merchant on a planet's surface, or that one traveller guy near the mine dungeons on garden worlds.

    2) Add them to the pool of races that'll appear in places like the random houses you see on various habitable worlds. Sure, these are limited and only using existing assets, but it's a start.

    Beyond this, the only concrete race-specific notions I've got at the moments are these:

    1) Have Singularinosti-specific dungeons* be on midnight planets or underground. Why? They don't like the brightness. If CF adds novakid settlements, you should place singularinosti dungeons onthe same worlds for reasons of them being able to kidnap/eat them.

    2) Being sheep, Barometta would probably not be happy on warm worlds so forest, ice, tundra or midnight.

    3) Once Glad Giraffe, or if that one doesn't have the hylotl cities the next one goes to stable repurpose hyotl city stuff for Carodont and Ichthysian settlements.

    Biomes where you'll be able to find each race's settlements(as opposed to say one-off ones living in houses or random coutners) as an idea:

    Barometta: Arctic, Tundra, Midnight, snow
    Beldehor: Toxic, Alien, Forest, Garden
    Bunnygirls: Garden, Forest, Jungle, Savannah(aka human-habitable ones)
    Carodont: Ocean, Jungle
    Gamayun: Forest, Garden, Savannah
    Ichthysian: Ocean, Jungle
    Singularinosti: Midnight, Savannah(to hunt novakids), Desert(to hunt novakids), Arid(to hunt novakids)
    Slimes: Jungle, Alien

    Subiomes for more ideas:

    Barometta: Steamspring, Ice, alpine, Prism
    Beldehor: spring, colourful, eyepatch
    Bunnygirls: giant flower, spring, colourful
    Carodont: Oasis(for tourists wanting to see a dry world), swamp, mushroom patch
    Gamayun: giant flower, spring, eyepatch, Rust
    Ichthysian: Oasis(for tourists wanting to see a dry world), swamp, mushroom patch
    Singularinosti: Hive(nice place for building on midnight worlds), bioluminescence, eyepatch, Tar
    Slimes: Steamspring(humidity+warmth), Oasis(for tourists wanting to see a dry world), swamp, mushroom patch, Tar

    IF/when you're *really* ambitious have some FU biome suggestions for places to put settlements!

    Barometta: Eden, Frozen Volcanic, Ice Waste
    Beldehor: Eden, Atropous, Irradiated, Proto Worlds, Rainforest
    Bunnygirls: Eden,
    Carodont: Eden, Bog, Tidewater, Primeval Forest(ambitious young carodont hunters)
    Gamayun: Eden, Irradiated, Proto Worlds
    Ichthysian: Eden, Tidewater,
    Singularinosti: Eden, Penumbra, Dark Primeval, Lightless Sphere
    Slimes: Eden, Bog, Fungal, Proto World, Rainforest, Gelatinous(this one especially!), Tar Ball

    The Eden biome is for every race because of it being desirable real estate in general. Perhaps I'll look into the FRackinUniverse subbiomes next time.

    * Casino maybe? Think modified from the arcade microdungeons we keep running into underground.

    Oh ho, nice ideas there, Lord Humungus! I can't just walk away from this, can't I?

    I like the idea that S-nosti doesn't really like natural light, except in Novakid form - thus bunker-like speakeasies and hideouts as dungeons would work very well. And as for the casino idea, that would be cool as well. Imagine a semi-underground Las Vegas dotted with slot machines and such. I do plan for their later ship tiers, especially T7 and T8, to become mobile casinos. I'd probably have to learn more on Starbound coding to make a functioning slot machine, though - but that's one goal amongst many.

    So yeah, sorry about the long absence, I've been busy with work and sickness (flu, my old nemesis!). Combined with a resultant creative block, this had caused many delays on my projects, Starbound or not. Hopefully once I get this cough out of my system I'll continue with some more /sbg/ stuff.

    All though I wish there were more hair styles(male) for the Slimes and the Barometta.
    One last thing perhaps a formal name for the Slime race might i suggest , Chrontinian(s) / Chrontin .

    Hey, guys, my comp was down for a while due to a botched OS upgrade, but I've finally got it back on its feet (and upgraded), so after I finish moving back in, I'm going to be getting right back to sorting out the update to this I had going- expect to see that in the next day or two. :nuruhappy:

    I originally picked up Mega because the mod uploader kept rejecting my archives, but I'm going to try to upload the next version here since the problem seems to be fixed. If that doesn't work, though, I can't guarantee I'll ever get around to that (since I found something that works and i'm lazy). Have you tried using the MegaSync thing? It fixed pretty much every problem I've had with it.

    I'm not using vanilla starbound. I am using unstable, i'd show a picture of it not there, but apparently i cant yet until i post in a forum 2 more times (lol...)

    I might consider a race of qt doggrills, but I haven't got much to go off of there yet and I've already got quite a few other projects lined up (but if you decide to make some yourself, we could discuss possibly integrating them into the mod)

    Yeah, I reproduced the bug in Stable, so it's not Unstable- I'm just wondering if it's a bug in the current version of SB, since nothing in this mod affects that bin that I'm aware of.

    You'd think so, but it's been a few days and I'm seen neither hide nor hair of it (and I can't be bothered trying to dig up the OP to make a new one)

    IMPORTANT EDIT: I just discovered a bug that was preventing colony deeds from spawning tenants; I should have it resolved, so once I test the fix I'll throw a patch up.
    (I really did try uploading the archive directly, btw, but apparently the mod is too big, so mega it is)
