I was thinking if you invite your friend over to your ship and want to keep an item secret or as least hidden from them or if your surviving on the ground and you could use a private chest so you could keep your items safe from cheeky friends stealing it .You could use a privacy lock but there isn't so I thought this would be cool. Here are the privacy setting icons: - Only you can access it! - Only you and the party your currently in can access it! - Any one can access it! - Any one can access it with a personal password (owner doesn't type it in!) Useful or not you tell me .

An excellent idea! You would also have to have this feature made so you could not break the chest or the ground beneath it if it's not your locked chest. You know people would try. =|
Then of course it would be fine, nothing to worry about. =) But if you wanted to have the feature designed for you to place locked chests anywhere, then having the mentioned feature would be a must to prevent thievery.
Yes, we need private chests, or ability to lock down ship storage from other players even if they are in your party, just now some noob stolen my whole ship storage including guns, metal bars and many cool vanity items.
Now they took lonely bed from my ship and parts of walls, whole ship must be protected from mining/building if you are not owner of the ship.
My condolences. But you should be more careful about who you invite on board But you are definitively right. Your ship should be your Zone and Yours alone.

Frankly this is something that is required. Though I'd say let the player type in the password (if you want others to be able to use it while you're offline say.) I think these settings should also be available to ships too.
There may not be much else to say about this subject, but honestly we really could do with something such as this in game. Locked chests, and the ship being private to the point that players can't knock down the walls, platforms, or doors inside it.
Could we please make this a thing in-game? I'd like to be able to hang out with some people without fear of losing some valuable stuff to trolls.
