Hello! I did not played the Nightly / Unstable version of Starbound simply because I did not wanted to receive any spoilers but I've seen the blog posts about crew members and I though "Wow! Companions! It's gonna be so cool to have my crew watching my back while I mine and stuff!" and you can already see how disappointed I was once I got my first crew member and he was dealing 3 damage on a monster while I was doing 42.. So yeah.. Crew members need some working and I understand the game just entered 1.0 so I came here with a suggestion, how about making it possible to equip your crew member with armors and weapons yourself? It would be amazing to put a high value armor on my allies while equipping them with Shotguns, for example, that could be possible, maybe, through the SAIL's Crew tab and, who knows, maybe even possible to put vanity items on them! Just a suggestion, thanks for reading
Good idea, but also one requested quite a few times already in the past. I'd quite much like being able to fully equip my crew (weapons, armors, vanity items) rather than just be able to set their uniforms. I'd also like to be the one who'll set up colors of their outfits. Overall, good suggestion but you've posted it in the wrong forum. Asked for it to be moved.
Moved to Suggestions: NPC and Creatures. Support is for if you have a problem with the game itself and need help fixing it.
Oh.. Thanks, I did not knew that was the wrong place for it.. My bad.. Anyho, yeah, the color would be cool to set as well, they pretty much only serve to identify the roles of each crew member but being able to use a dye on it as set as vanity could be pretty cool to see, I really hope the crew members get a buff, I like the system and I would love it if they implement that!
With due respect to you and your post, its indeed the fact that we are in 1.0.1. that we should have working, viable, strong and competet crew members instead of the proof of concept, decadent and utterly useless npcs we are forced to give a home to and call "crew member", this would be understandable if we were still in EA and thus Beta, however SB is now a full game and things like this should not happen. However, crew members have been known to "regulate" with their surroundings... if you want a viable crew member to use in different situations and defend you appropiately, you ll have to recruit them in very end-game situations, such as dangerous planets and whatnot. Any members you recruited before that will remain useless, sadly.
I had a hint that if I had good crew I would had to do it late game.. But still.. If the option of equipping your crew members with gear and weapons was viable you wouldn't need to recruit them end-game and wouldn't stay with weak members since they would, in this sense, progress as you progess (If you equip them OFC).. That's why I did the suggestion, I hope they change it.. I want a ship with 1 member of each race, I already got a Hylotl and an Apex.. I don't want dismiss them since it was already kinda hard to get them (Maybe I'm unlucky?).
oh I know, and apparently some people have stated that even on higher end planets they still get spaghetti arms soldiers, dealing 1-3 dmg, its either a very bad bug or... idk
Wow.. So my suggestion is then a NEED in this case.. Wow.. I found a mod that increase their stats and they still pretty useles.. My memeber that hit 3 is now dealing 8.. *sigh*
Hrrm... sorry to hear that, perhaps you could suggest making further additions to that mod? or perhaps change the values yourself so they are a good worthwile option to consider.
Yeah, I would like to see the crew altered in the future to support custom outfitting instead of them being stuck with their wet noodles and squirt guns. Also I hate the uniforms my crew is wearing.
All crew replace their melee with foam variants and use marshmellows as bullets once they teleport to your ship at the moment. I was at first excited to see my newly recruited mechanic hit monsters for ~190 damage with her giant wrench. Unfortunately once I brought her back to the ship her damage went to crap. My theory is that crew damage (maybe stats overall?) are based on where they teleported from and the ship (regardless of tier) is considered to be a very low tier area. Back to the OP, I'd love to see more customization of crew. I'd have more of a reason to find specific armor or weapons!
So, since OP start the topic, i put my ideas here. First, i think when you crew is on the ship, they must wear clothes from the tailor and holster they weapon for the most times. Hey, it's safezone, noone is trying to kill us! Maybe there must be event when two crewmembers start arguing, then grumpy black symbol pop up (like from you pet) then they take their guns, look at each other, laughs and put it back into holster. Spacetravelling is quite stressfull activity. And stop them from crowding my teleporter. It costs more then they lifetime salary! Second, there must be option in the SAIL crew menu to change armor and vanity clothes for all your dropteam (chemists, soldiers, engeniers...) and weapon for soldiers/outlaws only. Dropteam should wear their armor/vaniy only on surface (since they mostly like mercs and those guys like to look cool on the battlefield). They should get 25-50% debuff in damage so you will be the main dd on the field but so they can still punch good enough. Third, engeneers and mechanicis (fuell capacity / effectiveness guys) should get more job. Like, you can give them order to produce upgrade modules, techcards and other usefull stuff instead of tinkering with ship. Maybe even blueprints and random weapons. Or let them tinker as one of the options. To keep engeniers and mechanics different - mechsnics could tinker with ship (we chose will they tinker with fuel tanks or engines) and engeniers with other stuff or make their effectiveness different - mechsnics will do it hurry-scurry (tons of useless stuff) and engeniers will do it slow and steady (once they done - it will be masterpiece at least) Fourth - janitors can find stuff on the ship - pieces of ore, ingots some times, parts of the monsters - you got the idea Right now my crew is useless at very least
Hmm, those are actually quite a few good ideas! The Crew got update to scale with the players strenght so I guess the "marshmellow bullets" and "foam weapons" got fixed (kinda) but their AI some times still bothers me, I mean, I already saw one of my Avian Soldiers prepare to swing a sword for HOURS, he just stands there with the sword at his hands like "I gonna do it! Oh yeah! I gonna do it!!!" and then he changes to the rifle, run aways and shot 3 bullets before doing the same thing.. Anyway, I know AI is a bit hard to programm and that might take time to be perfect but if necessary let's keep our opinions flowing so the devs can improve this wonderful game!
