    from the very start the electronic log has been designed as a kind of pokedex. so you can scan at least plants and creatures. from the about page:
    "absolutely every object in the world, right down to the trees and flowers, can be examined for a description."

    no confirmation on this, would be cool features. some of these might be a bit too indepth though (your own searchable notes? why not just use a notepad or database of your own for that?)

    this is definitely in. you can bookmark planets, and make one your home. you can choose multiple homeworlds, but at a high price (the first one isn't as costly though)
    from the about page:
    "Exploring is wonderful, but everyone needs a place to call their own. That’s why we’re letting you claim an entire planet!
    When you claim a planet as your new homeworld, a whole new aspect of gameplay opens up. Everything that makes a planet unique is at your command."

    Sorry, we were trading literary references. In Douglas Adams brilliant book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, there is an encyclopedia in which the only entry for Humans is the two word description, "mostly harmless."

    Serris,

    Good points on those couple features that seem like they're definitely already in due to some other text on the site. As for the notepad, it's funny you mention "doing it on your own", as that's exactly what I had originally planned to do. :) It's just that, in writing my thoughts on the logbook, I thought it would be nice to have those notes incorporated into it ("one stop shopping", as it were). As I said, there are some ideas presented here that are very likely out of scope for the initial release. But I figure it doesn't hurt to discuss what we hope is in there, and what may be viable for inclusion at a later date.

    and it sounds even cooler to actually keep a physical notebook, maybe with sketches of the critters if you're into that sort of stuff :3

  5. Actually it was an entry about Earth.
    Earth == dirt, eh? Eh?..:badpokerface:

    I think there are a lot of good ideas here. I'm not sure if they all will get implemented but great suggestion anyway!

    Perhaps one function of the Electronic Log can be to catalog samples from creatures and clone them?

    I've thought about the whole "cloning" thing myself, but I think the only mention of creatures functioning "on your side" is with taming. The logbook will certainly contain the catalog record of any creatures you encounter, and that certainly makes sense. But cloning essentially gives us the ability to create creatures ourselves back on the space station, instead of having to tame them on a planet.

    It's an interesting thought, but I'm not sure if we're getting that ability or not. I'm thinking the best way to do it would be to have a machine we build that interfaces with the logbook, gives us the option to clone any creature we've encountered, and then deposits that creature directly into our "pet list" (or whatever it will be called). Then we can call it out for service just like any other tamed beast.

    Another way would be to have a big glass box of some kind in which the creature is actually spawned. The player is then given the ability to tame it from the outside, or even destroy it to acquire normal drops. Costs for cloning would have to be balanced appropriately of course.
